Carnival parade and TV recordings cancelled in Villach
The decision has been made: After Munich, the city of Villach will now also cancel the carnival procession with thousands of visitors. The Villach Carnival is not broadcast on ORF either.

ADVERTISEMENTAfter the fatal terrorist attack on Saturday in Villach city centre, there is now a decision on the Hall 1st. March fallen. The Villach Carnival Guild has cancelled the move with an average of 20,000 visitors in consultation with the crisis unit, consisting of city policy, emergency organisations and heads of authorities. “The move would pass directly at the point where the comedies occurred. We do not think that is appropriate,” says Guild Chancellor Karl Glanznig. The mayor of Villa, Günther Albel (SPÖ), on behalf of the city government and the operational and crisis figure, stresses that there will be no other official carnival dates in Villach. “But people must not basically take every opportunity to meet with friends despite the tragic events and try to regain a piece of normality,” he says. The safety of the memorial in the main square is ensured. Basically, the city appeals to those who want to celebrate the carnival, to preserve the dignity of the square and to behave in the immediate vicinity “as a question”.
