“BASTARDS!”: Chuck Schumer Caves on CR Resolution

3

That didn’t take long.

“The number one issue we have against these bastards!”

In a floor speech Thursday evening, Schumer admitted that he was left with no choice but to support the GOP’s measure, despite railing against it as “deeply partisan” and “a terrible option.” “For sure, the Republican bill is a terrible option. It is not a clean CR,” he complained. “It doesn’t address far too many of this country’s needs. But I believe allowing Donald Trump to take even more, even much more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option.” Schumer, who spent weeks attacking Republicans for allegedly following Trump’s lead, said the situation was a “Hobson’s choice,” meaning that there was no real alternative. “Either proceed with the bill before us or… risk Donald Trump throwing America into the chaos of a shutdown,” he declared. “This, in my view, is no choice at all.” That’s cute. Something tells me that Democrat polling showed that the public was going to blame the Democrats for the shutdown, and that’s what this is really about (PJ Media).

Senate Republicans are expected to hold a procedural vote Friday on the GOP-crafted bill, known as a continuing resolution, to fund the government through the current fiscal year that ends Sept. 30. At least eight Democratic votes will be needed to advance the legislation to final passage, with Schumer’s vote giving cover to his Democratic colleagues (Washington Examiner).

The America-hating party is not happy:

Townhall: House Democrats are livid. The progressive grassroots is aghast. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), after taking a victory lap after the first cloture vote on the House GOP’s continuing resolution, which would fund the government for another six months, totally caved yesterday. He’s going to vote to keep the government open. Republicans needed a handful of Democratic votes to get to 60. They didn’t have it on Tuesday. They will soon, with Schumer and now Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) announcing they’d support keeping the government open.

For once, House Democrats are angrier with their own party than Donald Trump. It’s ironic: the liberal media and the Democrats expected GOP disarray and chaos, and this shutdown fight sparked a civil war among themselves. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who Schumer is rumored to be wary of regarding a primary challenge, might have been given the push she needs to plan on that front. But first, she’s mobilizing House Democrats against Mr. Schumer (via CNN):

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Thursday that she plans to mobilize her massive base of followers to oppose what she described as an “acquiesce” by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to accept the House GOP funding bill……
