[ April 20, 2026 ]
Shlomo Mansour, an 86-year-old Holocaust survivor from Kibbutz Kissufim, was confirmed by the IDF to have been killed by Hamas terrorists during the attacks on October 7, 2023. His body was subsequently taken hostage in Gaza and remains there. Mansour, who also survived the 1941 Farhud pogrom in Iraq, was the oldest hostage held by Hamas at the time of his death.
The more things change, the more they stay in the same.

I was 10 when mobs attacked the Jewish community of Baghdad, my community, with cruel and unimaginable violence. Rioters maimed, raped, killed and robbed the unsuspecting Jews. This massacre, which began June 1, 1941, was called the Farhud, Arabic for “violent dispossession” or pogrom.

This morning, we learned the devastating truth: Hamas murdered Shlomo on October 7. He never made it to Gaza alive. His body is still being held by the terrorists.
Born in Iraq, Shlomo survived the Farhud in Baghdad in 1941. He later resettled in Israel, spending most of his adult life in Kissufim with his wife of 60 years, Mazal, who miraculously escaped.
A skilled carpenter, Shlomo also managed the kibbutz chicken coop for many years. He was known as a humble man with a big heart and golden hands, always crafting things for his grandchildren. He was deeply loved by his family and community.
