Five Jewish college students report being assaulted in the last month
More anti-Semitic attacks happen at UMich as Jewish students think of safety measures
Two more Jewish students at the University of Michigan (UMich) have been attacked, following another similar assault earlier this month.
Ann Arbor Police announced that two Jewish students were assaulted close to a home for members of a Jewish fraternity, according to the Detroit Free Press.
ADVERTISEMENT“The fact that these two incidents followed another disturbing incident last week has set many of us on edge,” UMich Santa Ono wrote in a statement following the assaults. “I understand the emotions many of us are feeling and we will remain vigilant and ensure that we focus on completing the investigation.”

The attack follows closely after another assault on a Jewish student that took place on Sept. 15. During that incident, unknown attackers confronted a Jewish student close to UMich’s campus, “asked if he was Jewish,” then, when he responded in the affirmative, they “[threw] him to the ground, kick[ed] him, and spit on him.”

A rabbi and a group of Jewish students were held at gunpoint during a late Wednesday dinner on the first night of Rosh Hashanah, according to the University of Michigan.
Southfield police say the home invasion took place around 10:40 p.m. at a residence in the 16000 block of Hilton Street. By the time officers arrived, the suspect was no longer there.
ADVERTISEMENTUniversity of Michigan President Santa J. Ono said a group of Jewish students and a local rabbi were gathered for dinner when an armed individual entered through an open backdoor, stole a bag and fled.
Police said the armed suspect told the victims: “I’m taking everything, give me everything.” The occupants were able to exit through the front door uninjured, police said.
Ono acknowledged that Wednesday’s home invasion took place during a time marked by “innumerable events locally and globally that have felt overwhelming and unsettling to many in our community.”
