US Park Police were “alone” and “understaffed” while being “assaulted by a mob of thousands” of pro-Hamas rioters in Washington, DC, on Wednesday — some of whom even pelted officers with poop, according to the force’s union chief.

Park Police Fraternal Order of Police chairman Kenneth Spencer told The Post in an interview a day after the unhinged riot that just 29 of his officers had faced down the terrorist-sympathizing mob outside Union Station — which is just blocks from the Capitol.

“We were primarily alone,” said Spencer, a 15-year veteran who revealed that years of “empty promises” to beef up the agency’s shoestring budget have gone unfulfilled by Congress and the Interior Department, which primarily deals with the nation’s rural national parks rather than civil unrest in big cities.

It began Tuesday evening, when anti-Israel activists targeted Mr. Netanyahu’s hotel. “BON APPETIT!!” the Palestinian Youth Movement wrote on Instagram, “Mealworms and maggots (not talking about Netanyahu) were left on their banquet tables, and crickets were released on multiple floors of the hotel.” We feel bad for the hotel staff and also for U.S. taxpayers: Donations to the charity that controls this group remain tax-deductible.

On Wednesday a mob outside Union Station tore down U.S. flags and burned one to chants of “Allahu akbar.” In place of Old Glory, they sent up the flag of Yasser Arafat’s Palestine Liberation Organization. An outnumbered police officer was dragged and thrown to the ground.

The mob defaced federal property, writing slogans such as “Hamas is comin” on the Christopher Columbus monument and “Qassam, Qassam, make us proud,” cheering Hamas’s military wing, on the American Legion’s Freedom Bell. A protester shouted on video about killing the Jews. A few waved Hamas and Hezbollah flags.

The obscene acts underscored Mr. Netanyahu’s point that “many anti-Israel protesters choose to stand with evil. They stand with Hamas.” To their fellow travelers, he said, “You have officially become Iran’s useful idiots.” Sen. Chris Murphy criticized these lines as unfair, only to have to condemn the “pro-Hamas cheers” hours later.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who skipped the speech to address a sorority, lauded the anti-Israel protest movement earlier this month: “They are showing exactly what the human emotion should be, as a response to Gaza.” On Thursday she, too, condemned the “despicable acts.” How about prosecutions? Credit to House Speaker Mike Johnson, who led several Republicans to Union Station on Wednesday night to raise new American flags.

On Wednesday I was down in DC at the US Congress to hear Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu give his address to the joint session.

I don’t think I have ever seen a case made so forcefully — not just by the speaker but by the people who had come to town to oppose him.

As I waited to get into the heavily guarded Capitol, I chatted with two very friendly and professional police officers.

As we were there a number of groups of “anti-Israel protestors” started to march past.

Many of them were so proud of their views that they covered their faces — as usual — with COVID masks.

“You c–k-sucking mother-f–ckers. Get the f–k out of our city” they screamed at the policemen.

“White supremacists” they also screamed through megaphones at the boys in blue who were (incidentally) black.

The protestors continued on their way, screaming abuse and profanities everywhere they could.
Common enemies

Inside Congress the Israeli prime minister made many points, but one was especially relevant to the American public.

Netanyahu addressed the complete moral inversion that we have seen from some people in America since the attacks of Oct. 7.

Referring to those people who immediately turned on Israel when its citizens had been raped, butchered and burned alive he said that people have to be able to make the moral distinction “between those who target terrorists and those who target civilians, between the democratic State of Israel and the terrorist thugs of Hamas.”

He mentioned the fact that the US director of national intelligence recently confirmed that Iran is funding anti-Israel protests in America.

This explains why the surge in radical anti-Israel protests — from the streets of our cities to the nation’s campuses — has been so coordinated and organized.

“They want to disrupt America,” Netanyahu said.

“These protestors burned America flags even on the 4th of July. If you remember one thing from this speech, remember this: Our enemies are your enemies, our fight is your fight, and our victory will be your victory.”

Prominent Democrats — including Nancy Pelosi, who had boycotted the prime minister’s speech — promptly took to social media to denounce Netanyahu for these words.

How dare the Israeli prime minister suggest that these protestors are bigots, useful idiots of the Iranians and much more?

As if on cue the mobs outside on the streets of Washington immediately proved Netanyahu right.

Outside of Union Station, these terrorist supporters ripped down the American flags that were flying there.

And then the mob burned them.

Right on the streets of the nation’s capital.

The flag that American servicemen throughout the generations, and to this day, have fought for, bled for and died for, was burned and trampled upon by people who no longer even pretend that their problem is with Israel.
