Two IRS whistleblowers told Congress in closed-door testimony released Thursday that there was a Justice Department coverup in the tax fraud investigation of first son Hunter Biden.
The two tax agents told the House Ways and Means Committee that they pressed for felony charges against Hunter Biden for ducking $2.2 million in tax payments and charged that evidence implicating the first son was buried by the Justice Department, the panel’s chairman said Thursday.
Rep. Jason Smith (R-Mo.) also told reporters that Delaware US Attorney David Weiss sought to bring charges against the 53-year-old in both the District of Columbia and Southern California last year and was denied both times — contradicting sworn testimony by Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Weiss, who signed off this week on a probation-only plea deal for Hunter in Delaware, sought repeatedly to be appointed special counsel in the case, including as recently as spring 2022, but was turned down by the Biden Justice Department, the lawmaker alleged.
The shocking allegations came two days after Weiss revealed that Hunter Biden had accepted a deal in which he agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of willful failure to pay taxes on at least $3 million in income earned across 2017 and 2018. The first son also agreed to enter a pretrial diversion program to avoid a felony conviction for owning a firearm while addicted to drugs.

Shapley also revealed that Hunter Biden had cited his father in a July 30, 2017, Whatsapp message to one of his Chinese associates, Henry Zhao — a Communist Party official and director of Harvest Fund Management, which invested in Hunter’s firm BHR Partners.

The House has just released the testimony of IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, an IRS Criminal Supervisory Special Agent who was assigned to the Hunter Biden investigation. And his testimony is damning.
If you’re curious about the whistleblower’s credentials, let’s start by saying he’s highly qualified and apolitical. He started wit the IRS in 2009 and currently oversees a staff of 12 agents. They work “all high-dollar, complex, international cases” and investigate “foreign financial institutions” and are responsible for “undercover operations and search warrants.”
He was motived to blow the whistle “because the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s Office, Department of Justice Tax, and Department of Justice provided preferential treatment and unchecked conflicts of interest in an important and high-profile investigation of the President’s son, Hunter Biden.”
Preferential treatment of Hunter Biden might be an understatement. In reality, it was sabotage, the affirmative effort to decline investigative steps and deny prosecutors the ability to bring charges. The DOJ’s conduct included:
“included slow-walking investigative steps, not allowing enforcement actions to be executed, limiting investigators’ line of questioning for witnesses, misleading investigators on charging authority, delaying any and all actions months before elections.”…

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith on Thursday released five previously secret documents detailing evidence from two IRS whistleblowers who alleged the Justice Department interfered with the Hunter Biden tax probe in unprecedented manner.
The documents include the whistleblower testimony of IRS Supervisory Agent Gary Shapley and an unnamed subordinate, as well as supplemental affidavits and contemporaneous memos detailing alleged efforts to politically interfere with the probe.
