The Biden administration announced Thursday that it is moving ahead with prohibitions on the type of equipment hunters are allowed to use on federal refuges, a move strongly opposed by sportsmen groups.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) released its 2023-2024 hunting and fishing rule — an annual plan laying out regulations for the upcoming hunting season — banning cost-effective lead ammunition and fishing tackle across eight national wildlife refuges by 2026. Such an action has been supported by eco groups, but opposed by hunters, who argue that it could serve as a backdoor attack on hunting broadly.
“This is the latest example of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service creating rules that punish hunters, threaten conservation funding and advance special interests without sound scientific evidence that traditional lead ammunition cause is causing detrimental wildlife population impacts,” said Lawrence Keane, the senior vice president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
“This administration is ignoring its promise to ‘follow the science.’ In fact, it is ignoring the need for scientific evidence in order to advance an anti-gun and anti-hunting agenda,” he continued.

Under the FWS rule proposed Thursday, sportsmen will be prohibited from using lead ammunition or tackle across eight federally managed refuges — Blackwater in Maryland, Chincoteague in Virginia, Eastern Neck in Maryland, Erie in Pennsylvania, Great Thicket in Massachusetts, Patuxent Research Refuge in Maryland, Rachel Carson in Maine and Wallops Island Nation in Virginia — beginning on Sept. 1, 2026.
In its announcement, the FWS said it had formulated the rule using the “best available science,” which demonstrates negative impacts of lead equipment on human health and wildlife.
The agency’s 2022-2023 hunting and fishing rule, which was finalized in September 2022, only banned lead ammunition throughout the Patoka National Wildlife Refuge in southern Indiana.
“Today’s Fish and Wildlife Service proposed rule shows that the Biden administration seeks credit for ‘expanding’ hunting and fishing access on public land while the lead ammunition and tackle bans threaten the exact opposite outcome,” Benjamin Cassidy, executive vice president for international government and public affairs at Safari Club International and a former senior Interior Department official, told Fox News Digital.
“Lead ammunition and tackle bans create substantial cost barriers for sportsmen and women across the country, preventing Americans from hunting and fishing on our public lands,” Cassidy said.

It already is of course. The National Parks are not allowed to use insecticide as pest control. They don’t allow fly swatters at the motels in the parks.

My wife has a health problem that insecticides aggravate. I have found a reasonable solution:
WINDEX! Yep, that glass cleaner.
You’ll have to learn how to attack the fly because they can/will fly through the spray. Use it to wet the fly then it is easily picked up with a napkin. You could ‘drown’ it but you’ll still have to pick up the varmint.

Do the research. The hundreds of thousands of beef and dairy cattle that …just die. No explanation. How about chickens some 10 millions of chickens dead the past 2 years. The big push for “lab grown meat”. The elites insect craze. Now the banning of natural gas appliances, and just the other day the banning of wood fired stoves for pizza in NYC. This is not new the EPA in 2016 attempted to ban existing fireplaces and wood stoves but failed. However it did succeed in banning NEW fireplaces and wood burning appliances. These regulations are left to the state and locals. However CA ran like the wind to ban it all. The relentless attacks on the 1A the 2A, 4A and the 8A. They are out there. They can’t be bargained with. They can’t be reasoned with. They don’t feel pity, remorse or fear. They will absolutely not stop till you are dead.

The contention that lead ammunition or lead fishing weights are environmentally hazardous is not born out by fact. The lead used in them is inert and cannot leach into soil or water.

Simultaneously devaluing currency and raising the cost of everything = slow destruction and death to any nation or people. It is a poison that touches everything and everyone. Most people don’t think about how that works over a century or so. It is war.
The Federal Reserve Bank devalues currency every year.
There are several ways to raise the cost of living. The expense of government is one very effective way. Why do you suppose they borrow every penny they spend? Why do you suppose they built up a 32 trillion dollar debt?
The price of oil (petroleum) is another very effective way way to raise the price of everything. Oil is a lot more than lubricant and fuel, it is the chemical foundation for almost everything we use. Add natural gas and coal to that equation. It all comes from the same place. You don’t think they wanted us to cap our own production to save the planet do you? Why do you suppose they sent us to the ME to buy our enemy’s oil at much higher prices? We even protect their oil at our expense, as if we need their oil.
Raising the price of electricity is a good way to make everyone pay more for everything. You don’t think they want us to use the most expensive supply of electricity to save the planet do you? Nuclear power = very inexpensive electricity, and they can’t allow that.
The cost of ammo and even recreation in general is another way to bleed us slowly to death. We tend to focus on the infringement of the 2nd Amendment, so we lose sight of the cumulative effect of raising the price of everything. We see them limiting our hunting and fishing, and we lose sight of the slow death by theft of prosperity.
The slow, methodical theft of prosperity is devastating in countless ways.
