The Taliban completed their sweep of the country’s south on Friday as they took four more provincial capitals in a lightning offensive that brought them closer to Kabul, just weeks before the U.S. is set to officially end its two-decade war.

In just the last 24 hours, the country’s second- and third-largest cities — Herat in the west and Kandahar in the south — have fallen to the insurgents as has the capital of the southern province of Helmand, where American, British and NATO forces fought some of the bloodiest battles of the conflict.

Mike Pompeo Details How Biden Bungled Trump’s Afghanistan Withdraw Plan: “I was in the room when President Trump made very clear that if you threatened an American, we would bring all American power to bear”

MC: Mike Pompeo, the former CIA Director and Secretary of State, trashed Joe Biden and his administration for bungling the withdrawal in Afghanistan. He said Trump had clear conditions with consequences things that Biden seems to have forgotten.

Pompeo said. “I was also in the room when President Trump made very clear to Mullah Baradar, the senior Taliban negotiator, that if you threatened an American, if you scared an American, certainly if you hurt an American, that we would bring all American power to bear to make sure that we went to your village, to your house.

“We were very clear about the things we were prepared to do to protect American lives. And indeed, since we began those negotiations back in February of 2020, there wasn’t a single American killed by the Taliban. We had established a deterrence model.”\

MIKE POMPEO, EX-CIA DIRECTOR & SECRETARY OF STATE: Well looks like this was poor planning, poor leadership and that the model of deterrence that the Trump Administration had in place as we prepared to bring the soldiers, sailors, marines, everybody who is on the ground there, home, looks like they have not been able to execute this. Martha, you know this, big strategy depends on planning and execution.

Looks like there is a bit of panic. I hope that they’ve got the right number of folks, that they can get them there quickly. I hope that we can protect Americans in the way that the Trump Administration had every intention of doing as we drew down our forces there.

FOX NEWS: And how would you have done it differently?

POMPEO: Well, I don’t know exactly what they are doing, but we had conditions attached to how we were thinking about this withdrawal – I was part of those negotiations. I was also in the room when President Trump made very clear to Mullah Baradar, the senior Taliban negotiator, that if you threatened an American, if you scared an American, certainly if you hurt an American, that we would bring all American power to bear to make sure that we went to your village, to your house.

We were very clear about the things we were prepared to do to protect American lives. And indeed, since we began those negotiations back in February of 2020, there wasn’t a single American killed by the Taliban. We had established a deterrence model. I hope we haven’t lost that for the Americans who are still on the ground there in Kabul. And then the last thing, Martha, we had begun the reduction of our operations in that embassy.

I ordered a drawdown in the embassy in Kabul that took place. We were continuing to reduce our risk and our footprint there. I hope that they continued down that path. I hope that we are now in a place that to get our folks out of there in a way that is rational and consistent not only with the need to get our Americans home but making sure this ungoverned space doesn’t become another hotbed for Al Qaeda, ISIS or some other radical Islamic terrorist group.

FOX NEWS: I mean they are talking about leaving 600 people there ultimately if this temporary removal of our remaining personnel works. What if that is not enough to protect that area from the Taliban? I mean if they are sending in 3,000 people to get out 2,500 is 600 going to be enough and are those people going to be safe on the ground without additional support?

POMPEO: Well, I’m pretty confident that our military understands the mission set: to protect the homeland from an attack emanating out of Afghanistan, and so the precise number of people on the ground is something we focus on.

The threat also is not from the Taliban right? It’s from the fact that the Taliban will play footsie with terrorists like Al Qaeda. There are fewer than 200 Al Qaeda remaining inside of Afghanistan. That’s the target set is to protect America, right? We’re now goodness, three weeks out, four weeks out from the 20th anniversary of an attack that came from that place.

President Trump made very clear to me, to the State Department, to the Department of Defense that our mission set was clear: we wanted to make sure we always had the conditions based analysis that would protect America, at least reduce significantly the risk that there would be an attack from that place.

Pompeo Shreds Biden as Administration Orders Panicked Evacuation of US Personnel Due to Shock Taliban Advances

As the Taliban capture provincial capitals with alarming speed, the Pentagon is moving 3,000 Marines and soldiers to Afghanistan and another 4,000 troops to the region to evacuate most of the American Embassy and U.S. citizens in Kabul.

Mr. Biden, after meeting with his top national security advisers on Wednesday night and again Thursday morning, also ordered additional expedited flights out of the country for Afghans who have worked with the United States, so that their applications for special immigrant visas could be evaluated.

The embassy sent the latest in a series of alarming alerts, urging Americans to “leave Afghanistan immediately using available commercial flight options.”

And in Washington, the State Department spokesman, Ned Price, announced what he described as a drawdown of an unspecified number of civilians among the roughly 4,000 embassy personnel — including about 1,400 American citizens — to begin immediately.

The situation in Afghanistan is now widely considered by most observers to be a complete disaster with Taliban militants capturing large amounts of expensive US military equipment including MRAPs, armored Humvees, and even advanced drones:

With the situation quickly spiraling out of control, former secretary of state Mike Pompeo slammed the Biden administration for its feckless and panicked handling of the Afghan pullout, noting that ‘weakness begets war.’

As The New York Post reports:

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo ripped President Biden over his administration’s “panicked” tactics in Afghanistan, saying in a TV interview that “weakness begets war” as Taliban fighters continue their lightning offensive to take over the country.

The former top US diplomat told Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Thursday night that the embattled country would not be falling to the insurgents if former President Donald Trump were still in power.

“It looks at best naïve and at worst ignorant. Weakness begets war, and you can see what weak leadership ultimately leads to,” Pompeo said, according to the US Sun.

The former secretary of state also reminded viewers that Trump had vowed that the Taliban would not regain power during his administration.

With the Taliban advancing unopposed and Kabul increasingly isolated many foreign policy observers are predicting that the Biden Administration is setting the US up to repeat the 1975 fall of Saigon, this time

Expert says Kabul could fall to Taliban by 20th anniversary of 9/11

The Taliban has seized scores of American weapons and military equipment from Afghan security forces as the terrorist group accelerates its takeover following the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the country.

Taliban terrorists are now in possession of U.S.-made military vehicles, anti-aircraft guns, armored tanks, and artillery. The munitions were provided to Afghan security forces to secure the country as the United States ends its two-decade war there. The Taliban have overwhelmed Afghan forces, taking over key Afghan provinces and using U.S. weapons to power the offensive.

“These captured systems will increase the mobility and lethality of the Taliban, making them a more formidable adversary,” said Bradley Bowman, senior director of the Center on Military and Political Power at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. “We have already seen the Taliban using captured humvees to patrol Kunduz and Sar-e Pol.”

With the situation in Afghanistan deteriorating, the United States announced that it is sending 3,000 troops back into the country to help evacuate the vulnerable American embassy in Kabul. President Joe Biden left for vacation shortly after the announcement. Vice President Kamala Harris dodged questions about the situation on Thursday afternoon, when a reporter asked if “Afghanistan is lost to the Taliban.” Harris would not answer, but said she would be briefed on the matter.

Military experts fear Afghanistan will once again become a breeding ground for terrorists and militant groups like al Qaeda.

Annie Aleman, a GOP strategist with the American Security Project, predicted on Thursday that Kabul could soon fall to the Taliban.

“It is very reasonable to expect that Kabul will fall by the 20th anniversary of 9/11 this year,” Aleman said.

Bowman said the situation warrants increased U.S. airstrikes in the country to ensure the Taliban cannot make further inroads.

“Concerns regarding the captured artillery have prompted U.S. airstrikes,” Bowman said. “Hopefully those U.S. airstrikes will increase and continue beyond the August 31 deadline. American support for the Afghan security forces is not charity. It is helping a brave partner fight a common enemy over there so that they can’t target us here.”

Biden administration officials, he said, “appear to have forgotten one of the core lessons of 9/11: What happens there can hurt us here.”

The State Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
