President Trump will address false impeachment charges during the Senate trial

White House will wait for Senate trial to address impeachment charges

By Ginger Gibson, Reuters, December 10, 2019:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump will address the impeachment charges announced on Tuesday during the Senate trial phase of the proceedings, the White House said, continuing to choose not to argue the merits of the charges ahead of an expected vote by the Democratic-led House.

Story continues below advertisement

“The President will address these false charges in the Senate and expects to be fully exonerated, because he did nothing wrong,” White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement.

The statement did not make clear how he would address the charges. Asked in an interview with Fox News whether Trump would testify, Grisham said she did not know.

“I’m not going to get ahead of what he may do but I’m sure we’ll participate in some way, certainly with our counsel,” she said. “And we’re going to be calling on witnesses and we hope that they will participate.”

Calling the process partisan and lacking in fairness, Trump and his allies have sought to paint his Democratic accusers as seeking to undo his 2016 election.

Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives announced formal articles of impeachment against Trump on Tuesday, accusing him of abusing power by pressuring Ukraine to probe a political rival and obstructing Congress’ investigation into the scandal.

The House could vote as soon as next week. The charges conclude weeks of investigation and hearings, which Trump has derided as one-sided and failing to offer him a fair opportunity to present his side. The White House has refused repeated requests for senior officials to testify and for relevant documents.

The House is almost certain to approve impeachment along partisan lines. A trial would then likely be held in January in the Senate, which is controlled by the Republicans. No Republican in the House or Senate has come out in favor of convicting Trump and removing him from office.

Trump has raised the prospect of having his political adversaries forced to testify in the Senate, a move that he has argued will vindicate him while damaging those who have sought to impeach him.

But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell raised the prospect that the Senate could hold a vote on the articles of impeachment without hearing from witnesses.

The Senate “could decide … that they’ve heard enough and they believe they know what would happen and could move to vote,” McConnell told reporters.

McConnell said no decisions had been made about how the chamber would ultimately proceed.

Trump and his allies have sought to depict the impeachment process as a net gain for the president – arguing that the Democratic-led effort has pushed his supporters to back him more staunchly. Republicans are also trying to leverage the process to attack Democrats in congressional districts the party may be able to pick up in the 2020 election.

“The announcement of two baseless articles of impeachment does not hurt the President, it hurts the American people, who expect their elected officials to work on their behalf to strengthen our Nation,” Grisham said in the statement.

Pollak: Line by Line, A Complete Debunking of the Democrats’ Articles of Impeachment
By JOEL B. POLLAK
10 Dec 2019

Democrats released their two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump on Tuesday, and they are a complete joke.

Not only did the Democrats back away from charging Trump with bribery, obstruction of justice in the Mueller investigation, campaign finance violations, treason, or any of the other wild claims they floated, but the two articles themselves are fraudulent, based on blatantly false claims of law and fact.

Line by line, here they are:

ARTICLE I: ABUSE OF POWER

The Constitution provides that the House of Representatives shall have the sole Power of Impeachment and that the President “shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” In his conduct of the office of President of the United States — and in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed — Donald J. Trump has abused the powers of the Presidency, in that:

Using the powers of his high office, President Trump Solicited the interference of a foreign government, Ukraine, in the 2020 United States Presidential election.

This is false. Trump never discussed the 2020 election with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, nor did he ask them to interfere in our politics. That is simply Democrats’ spin, based on the complaint of the so-called “whistleblower,” which was disproved by the release of the actual transcript of Trump’s conversation with Zelensky. Trump asked Ukraine to look into its widely-reported interference in the 2016 election, and to look into the circumstances in which then-Vice President Joe Biden demanded, on pain of losing $1 billion in loan guarantees, that Ukraine fire a prosecutor who had jurisdiction over a dormant investigation of a corrupt Ukrainian company, Burisma, on which Biden’s son, Hunter, served as a well-compensated board member. Democrats demanded Ukraine cooperate with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Trump’s supposed “collusion” with Russia in 2018. By their own new definition, that would qualify as pressuring Ukraine to interfere in U.S. politics.

He did so through a scheme or course of conduct that included soliciting the Government of Ukraine to publicly announce investigations that would benefit his reelection, harm the election prospects of a political opponent, and influence the 2020 United States Presidential election to his advantage.

Trump asked Zelensky to work with the U.S. Attorney General, which suggests he actually wanted real investigations. Democrats claim Trump only wanted an “announcement” of investigations. Their only evidence is the testimony of Gordon Sondland, who testified that Trump told him that he wanted “nothing” from Ukraine, and who admitted that most of what he believed about “investigations” was the result of his own personal presumptions.

President Trump also sought to pressure the Government of Ukraine to take these steps

This is false. President Zelensky has said numerous times that he felt no “pressure” from Trump, and that there was no “quid pro quo.” Numerous witnesses testified that Ukraine did not even know any aid was on hold until Politico reported it in late August, more than a month after the call. While some witnesses said that some Ukrainian officials at the embassy in Washington may have been aware of a holdup with the aid, none of them could say exactly when.

by conditioning official United States Government acts of significant value to Ukraine on its public announcement of the investigations.

This, again, is false. Numerous witnesses testified that aid was never conditioned on investigations. The Ukrainian government itself has repeated — even today — that it never believed U.S. assistance depended on announcing, or conducting, investigations. The claim was just a presumption by Sondland, who also testified that Trump told him there was “no quid pro quo,” and admitted he had no direct knowledge of any link between aid and investigations.

President Trump engaged in this scheme or course of conduct for corrupt purposes in pursuit of personal political benefit.

The president specifically asked Zelensky to “do us a favor,” referring to the “country.” (Democrat legal “expert” Pamela Karlan tried, absurdly, to argue that Trump meant the “royal ‘We’.”) Investigating both foreign election interference and corruption involving American officials is a matter of public interest. Numerous witnesses agreed that the Bidens had a conflict of interest with Burisma — at the very least — and that it was worthy of investigation. Moreover, Democrats spent years arguing that the FBI’s investigation of the Trump campaign’s alleged “collusion” with Russia was justified because the country had to know if a possible future president was compromised — either by foreign misdeeds or by compromising information in hands of a foreign power. The same applies to Biden.

(The U.S. has agreements to work together on CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS and this is just another CRIMINAL
INVESTIGATION and started before Trump mentioned it. The Ukraine voted in the recent President to END the corruption in the Ukraine.)

(Pelois must have decided to skip the Quid Pro Quo because BIDEN IS THE VERY DEFINITION OF THAT!
They are trying to protect Biden! It was money for influence with CHINA, 1.5 BILLION and the Ukraine 83K)

In so doing, President Trump used the powers of the Presidency in a manner that compromised the national security of the United States

The argument that Trump “compromised” national security rests on the idea that Ukraine is essential to American national security interests. (LOL) That may or may not be true, but if so, then President Barack Obama should have been impeached for appeasing Russia and allowing it to invade Ukraine. In truth, questions of national security and foreign policy are largely within the president’s own constitutional purview; his decisions are not impeachable. Regardless, there was never any interruption in U.S. aid to Ukraine, and the key military aid — the Javelin anti-tank missiles that Trump provided, but Obama had not — was never affected, as numerous witnesses testified. If anything undermined U.S. national security, it was the Democrats’ decision to pursue impeachment in a way that exposed the secretive details of internal decision-making and foreign policy to anyone, friend or foe, who wanted to know.

and undermined the integrity of the United States democratic process.

The only violation of the democratic process is Democrats’ attempt to overturn the 2016 election. As Democrats argued vehemently during the Clinton impeachment in 1998-9, such an effort should not be undertaken lightly. And as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) argued — before her impeachment effort failed to earn Republican support — impeachment should only be done with bipartisan support lest it be seen as a purely political endeavor.

(Let’s not forget Obama promised “more flexibility” after the election. How about that failed, “RESET” button?)

He thus ignored and injured the interests of the Nation.

On the contrary: protecting our elections, investigating corruption, and preventing foreign aid from being misused by corrupt governments are all the duties of the President of the United States, in furtherance of his Oath of Office.

President Trump engaged in this scheme or course of conduct through the following means:
1) President Trump — acting both directly and through his agents Within and Outside the United States Government

Trump did not have “agents.” He had Senate-confirmed diplomats, as well as informal diplomatic channels. As numerous witnesses testified, there is nothing inherently wrong or unusual in a president using informal diplomacy.

— corruptly solicited the Government of Ukraine to publicly announce investigations into —

That is a stupendously partisan and ignorant conclusion. The House impeachment hearings have made clear that Donald Trump pressured Ukraine for domestic political gain. Even worse, Trump, for his own political benefit, used taxpayer money, approved by Congress and part of America’s diplomatic strategy, to pressure a foreign head of state to take an action. Whether or not he discussed the 2020 United States Presidential election with Zelensky is simply a stupid red herring on your part.

Sorry, bub, but pressuring the head of a foreign government to investigate a likely opponent is most definitely asking them to influence- “interfere” with if you will- our electoral process. I am quite confident that if Obama had done the same, say with Netanyahu, you and your ilk would be crying bloody murder, and justifiably so.

This is an abuse of power, and Trump should not have done it. Whether or not it rises to the level to justify impeachment, I’m not so certain- it’s certainly not the first time POTUS has abused power. But even those of us who may support some of Trump’s actions should recognize that he screwed up big time on this one.

Joel Pollack, and by extension you, have shown what unreflective people you are.

OVERALL, GOOD SHOW BUT LET’S NOT GIVE THE OBAMA ANY CREDIT THAT HE DIDN’T EARN BY CLAIMING THAT THE OBAMA WAS GUILTY OF “appeasing Russia and allowing it to invade Ukraine”! WE AMERICANS KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT THE HISTORY OF “LITTLE RUSSIA” OR “OLD RUS” THAT WAS MADE UP OF BELARUS AND UKRAINE ACTUALLY! FACT IS ALL PRESIDENT PUTIN DID WAS TAKE BACK AN ISLAND CALLED CRIMEA THAT HAD BEEN AN AUTONOMOUS PROVINCE OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE BEFORE KRUSCHEV AN ETHNIC UKRAINIAN, WRONGLY GAVE IT TO HIS HOME SOVIET REPUBLIC AT THE TIME TO HELP THE UKRAINIANS FORGET ABOUT HIS ROLE AS STALIN’S HANGMAN THERE IN THE 20’s/30’s! KRUSCHEV FOLLOWED THE EXAMPLE OF LENIN WHO GAVE GREAT RUSSIA PROVINCE LAND AS IT WAS KNOWN UNDER THE CZARS TO UKRAINE IN THE 20’s (ABOUT 25% OF MODERN UKRAINE TODAY) TO COVER UP SOME MASS KILLINGS HE HAD DONE IN THAT TERRITORY TO CZARIST COSSACKS! THE AUTONOMOUS TERRITORIES THAT ARE MADE UP OF UKRAINIAN-RUSSIANS DESCENDANTS OF LOYAL COSSACKS IN THOSE AREAS WHO DIDN’T LIKE THE UKRAINIAN CENTRAL GOVERNMENT MESSING WITH THEM ANY MORE WERE ONLY PROTECTED BY RUSSIA WHO MADE IT A FAIR FIGHT WHEN THEY WITHDREW FROM UNDER THE UKRAINIAN GOVERNMENT LIKE SOME COLONIES DID IN N. AMERICA FROM THE BRITISH CROWN IN 1776!
WE ON THE RIGHT SHOULD THANK GREAT RUSSIAN PRES. VLADIMIR PUTIN WHO MORE THAN ANYBODY AMONG THE WORLD’S LEADERS FORCED THE OBAMA TO PROVE WHAT A KNOW-LITTLE AND HOW INDECISIVE A LEADER HE REALLY WAS WITH NO REAL LEADERSHIP QUALITIES! ALL PRES. PUTIN DID WAS MANIPULATE THE OBAMA INTO THINKING THAT HE WAS GOING TO GIVE HIM THE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION TREATMENT HE HAD BEEN GIVEN BY EVERYONE INCLUDING CONGRESSIONAL GOP LEADERSHIP UP TO THAT TIME THEN DECISIVELY DO HIS THING TO RECLAIM LOST, RUSSIAN TERRITORY IN CRIMEA AND STOP THE UKRAINIAN CENTRAL GOVERNMENT FROM BUTCHERING THOSE EAST UKRAINIAN RUSSIANS BY GIVING THEM WEAPONS AND DIPLOMATIC SUPPORT LIKE THE FRENCH KINGDOM OF THE BOURBONS DID TO THE AMERICAN CONTINENTAL CONGRESS! FACT IS THE OBAMA WAS POLITICALLY INVINCIBLE UP TO THAT TIME AND WE ON THE RIGHT CAN TRACE OUR GOING UP THE POLITICAL FOOD CHAIN TOWARD 2016 SUCCESS WITH A REAL WINNER, PRES. TRUMP FROM THE TIME THAT RUSSIA DISCREDITED THE OBAMA TO THE WORLD! HAPPY HOLIDAYS RIGHTISTS ESPECIALLY CHANUKAH!

Trump would like to draw out this impeachment to call as witnesses as many of the conspirators as he can. Also, election laws do not allow campaigning by members of the House and Senate. Opponent candidates of incumbents can campaign as much as they want. Pretty tough for sitting House Democrats.

Huh? What law are you referring to? How does it constrain members of Congress from campaining?

TIA for a (civil) response.

I should have said that Congressional election rules don’t allow sitting Congress members to campaign. The rules require all members of Congress be present during formal presidential impeachments and that no campaigning for office be done during that time. Election laws then specify that no political campaigning can take place from an incumbent’s Congressional office. This is one of those obscure things of which even many Congress people are unaware. When the Democrat Senate and House leaders explained it to their candidates, suddenly they all wanted the impeachment process completed quickly by the end of the year. Without these restrictions, Democrats would have loved for the process to have been drawn out to apply more PR pressure on the President, especially since the charges are so thin.

You are very welcome.

If the Trump rally in Hershey, PA last night was any indication, it is that he will steal the show in the Senate trial and his landslide reelection will follow soon after.

The false allegations against Trump remind me of the time I was falsely accused of being the father of an illegitimate child who was born ten years after I had had a vasectomy.

Can they really impeach simply because a Republican beat Goddess Clinton without cheating as she did?

Do “us” a favour is quite different from do “me” a favour. Biden already admitted his crime of abuse of power, so asking for additional information would be helpful for prosecution. After all, a vice-president isn’t above the law.

Oh wait, abuse of power isn’t against the law, but extortion is.

People who don’t want Sharia, watch your leader, because if your leader is misleading you will be misled.
Dhimmi Trump stresses that Saudi Arabia is “loving the American people”, he’s not the leader of the just cause.
Unjust Muhammadist tyranny Saudi Arabia is the country of origin of enslavement of black African people, unjust Muhammad declared that his unproven deity turned “Africans black so their descendants would be slaves to Arabs & Turks”.
Some black African slaves in Saudi Arabia today are even castrated.
Agnostics are slowly killed in Saudi Arabia & girls undergo forced declitorization according to unjust Muhammad’s rules for females (look it up on Wikiislam > FGM).
Israel, if you want to be associated with Saudi Arabia-promoting Trump you will be associated with Saudi Arabia-promoting Trump.
& that will make you unpopular.
Skip Dhimmi Trump, choose me, for human rights & ecology.

Poor swamp boy Mitch… His wife’s family is in the shipping business with China and the USMCA agreement will affect their wealth… Surely MItch can do TWO things at the same time? Trump has a strong stomach…..

USMCA Gains Bipartisan Support in House – Senate Leader Mitch Jinping
Says Not-so-Fast, Impeachment First

Posted on December 10, 2019 by sundance
..
After Pelosi gives the nod for USMCA ratification in the House, Senate Leader Mitch McConnell declares he will not allow Senate support until he extracts his impeachment indulgency fees. Shhhh… Mitch is just as corrupt as the others….

Both China and Wall Street have been pouring money into K-Street lobbyists. There’s a boatload of extraction available before any Senator should be forced to take a final position. Slow down there cowboy, the check-writers are lined up at the doors.

First, delaying USMCA benefits China. Beijing has invested heavily in Mitch McConnell and that level of alignment needs to be carefully navigated.

Second, passage of the USMCA hurts the Wall Street multinationals. Those multinational corporations have paid the legislative brokers, K-Street lobbyists, to defend their interests. The multinationals who were ignoring President Trump’s multiple warnings, likely need more time to reposition their assets.

Third, the Wall Street hedgefunds have also paid K-Street. If USMCA assists the decoupling from China (it does), those hedgefunds need time to extract their financial position from the Stock Market. **nudge/nudge, wink/wink** We’re talking “folding money” here. Trillions at stake. If you’re in the market… position yourself accordingly.

All of these trade opportunities are tied together. The impeachment effort is the Alamo for a global financial network. Imagine how much money McConnell can make from each of these issues?
(1) Impeachment is worth billions.
(2) USMCA is worth billions.
(3)U.S-China is worth billions.

McConnell cannot move quickly without giving up some major financial opportunities. Slowing it all down makes it easier to indulge.

Each of the three issues above is worth some major cash; each must be taken individually.

This is going to be a battle for the soul and spirit of America and every citizen’s life will be affected by the outcome. If the law is followed, scrupulously, there will be no problems, the President will be unencumbered with further harassment on this issue and Congress can get back to actually governing the country. If anything goes south here or anyone tries further illegalities to further twist our existing laws, there will be a push-back, the likes of which, this nation has never seen. The law-breaking of the dark state and rogue government agencies, in service to Progressive Socialism must be expunged and driven out of free society or the people will rise. The 100 year malignant growth of the cancer of Progressive Socialism, in this country, within the guts of American freedom must be removed and expelled or America will die…It would be best for the people, who still love the country to take care of this chore, now, while they still can, because America will not leave the world stage, peacefully…

Below is a link to a delightful, touching, heartwarming, spiritually uplifting human interest story on breitabrt. It says:

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz on Wednesday shot down former FBI Director James Comey’s claim that the FISA abuse report vindicates him against allegations of wrongdoing during the bureau’s investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign.

“I think the activities we found here don’t vindicate anybody who touched this FISA,” Horowitz testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, answering a question on whether Comey was “vindicated” by the report.
