Trump Cancels Student-Loan Debt for Thousands of Disabled Vets

President Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order directing the Department of Education to cancel all federal student-loan debt for seriously disabled veterans.

“Veterans . . . who have made such enormous sacrifices for our country should not be asked to pay anymore,” Trump said as he addressed more than 2,500 veterans at the 75th annual AMVETS convention in Louisville, Ky. “The debt of these disabled veterans will be entirely erased. It will be gone. They can sleep well tonight.”

More than 25,000 “completely and permanently” disabled veterans will see “every penny” of their student debt forgiven under the order, Trump said.

Student-debt forgiveness for eligible veterans is a bipartisan issue, and several Democratic presidential candidates have proposed eliminating student-loan debt for all the nation’s students.

“Only half of the roughly 50,000 disabled veterans who are qualified to have their Federal student loan discharged have received this entitled benefit” because of a “burdensome” process, the White House said in a statement.

Trump has made caring for veterans a priority of his administration and in June 2017 signed the Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act, which expedites the process of firing negligent VA employees.

German-Austrian border: Federal police picks up 46,000 wanted persons at border controls

Since the beginning of checks at the border with Austria in autumn 2015, the Federal Police has intercepted tens of thousands of wanted suspects. From the reintroduction of internal border controls on 13 September 2015 until the end of June 2019, German authorities identified about 46,000 persons who had been put out to search, according to an enquiry by the AfD in the Bundestag.

During the same period, the police rejected more than 35,000 persons at the German-Austrian border. They had been refused entry because they had not fulfilled the necessary conditions. However, the Federal Government is not clear at which points most illegal border crossings take place. There is no “detailed, control-specific, differentiated recording”, she conceded.

Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) had extended the controls by another six months in April. He explained this to the EU Commission with the persistently high number of illegal border crossings. Between November 2018 and February 2019, around 950 asylum seekers were caught entering the country without permission every month. In addition, the “migration potential” via the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balkan route had grown again.

The rush of asylum seekers to Germany has risen again in the first half of this year compared to 2018. From the beginning of January to the end of July, more than 100,000 people applied for asylum in Germany. The majority of these, 86,350, were initial applications, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees announced two weeks ago.

Projected for the entire year, this would be 200,000 applications. Last year the figure was 186,000, the equivalent of the population of a city like Kassel.

And that’s going to add how much more debt that this guy said he was going to eliminate in 8 years? I love our vets but honestly, this is unconstitutional. That entire student loan business is socialistic to the core.

A NEVER TRUMPER to the bitter end, right Tim Brown?

I have no problem with that. The SMALL amount that will affect our debt is peanuts.
These are DISABLED VETS, who are unable to work due to permanent injuries suffered serving our country and because of that unable to work. Yes this is Constitutional too….

These Vets are missing LIMBS and have other life changing injuries and yet you worry about DEBT, Tim. Money isn’t everything…. These people are struggling to get through life. What more are they supposed to do for their country?

BTW what have YOU done for your country other than sit back, holier than thou, drop a few Bible verses now and then and be a consistent Trump critic. One can always count on you to be critical of Trump no matter what he does. You are a cruel person. and give Christianity a bad name. I wish you were as critical of YOURSELF as you are of Trump. These are people that can NOT work and have their disability from serving our country.

BTW creep, this has been in place since 1965 and not properly implemented.

“The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Higher Education Opportunity Act in 2008 and other acts (Higher Education Act), honors veterans who are totally and permanently disabled as a result of their service to the Nation by providing for the discharge of their Federal student loan debt.”

I guess you don’t mind all that money Dems and RINOS send to foreign countries JUST TO PROP UP THEIR ECONOMY? I guess you don’t mind all the FREE BENEFITS Dems and RINOS give to illegal aliens living in America? I guess you don’t mind that prisoners in our Prison system have FREE MEDICAL CARE to change their sex and all kinds of medical procedures that law-abiding citizens cannot have from their own Insurance companies? I guess you don’t mind Congress raising taxes so THEY CAN HAVE A PAY RAISE when they are here to SERVE America and not just HAVE A LIFETIME JOB? I guess you don’t mind the millions and millions of dollars America spends to keep Federal land out of the hands of WE, THE PEOPLE (the land belongs to Americas, not the Govt.)? I guess you don’t mind the Govt paying for SANCTUARY CITIES that harbor illegals, criminals, and even full families of both? I guess you don’t mind the millions of dollars the Govt spends on frivolous projects:

$283,500 on Department of Defense bird-watching

$48,500 to write about Russian smokers

$406,419 to look at a “chicken and egg” problem
$3.1 billion on vacation for federal employees placed on administrative leave
Nearly $150,000 to understand why politics stress us out
REF: https://www.lankford.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/Federal_Fumbles_2015.pdf

ETC., ETC., ETC.

…………but, you DO MIND that our taxes pay for our own citizens who sacrificed EVERYTHING for you and I and others!

WOW….JUST WOW. Maybe YOU should run for President and tell us all WHAT YOU WOULD DO TO HELP THE REST OF US WITH OUR OWN MONEY?

YOU are what I call, WILLFULLY IGNORANT.

Tim Brown is a terminal NEVER TRUMPER. He only shows up to be critical of Trump.
I see this as a new low even for him. He is heartless…but don’t worry, he’ll have a Bible verse ready for you to show how self righteous he is…LOL!

Honestly I don’t know what more these service men and women could have done for their
country. Some gave ALL and some came back permanently disabled and unable to work and Tim Brown balks at the MONEY and our DEBT! What a fine “Christian” he is. LOL! He’d rather see them struggle financially with medical bills and higher education loans as their reward. What a scum bag Tim Brown is.

President Trump Instructs Education Dept. to Discharge Federal Student Loan Debt For Disabled Veterans…
Posted on August 21, 2019 by sundance

President Trump has announced a policy directive to the U.S. Department of Education to immediately facilitate the discharge of federal student loan debt for any veteran permanently disabled as part of their military service.

WHITE HOUSE – Since our Founding, the United States has been blessed with men and women willing to serve in defense of our Nation and our ideals. Many of those answering the call to serve make the ultimate sacrifice for their country, and many others carry physical and emotional scars for the rest of their lives.

The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Higher Education Opportunity Act in 2008 and other acts (Higher Education Act), honors veterans who are totally and permanently disabled as a result of their service to the Nation by providing for the discharge of their Federal student loan debt.

Borrowers who have been determined by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to be unemployable due to a service-connected condition and who provide documentation of that determination to the Secretary of Education are entitled to the discharge of such debt.

For the last decade, veterans seeking loan discharges have been required to submit an application to the Secretary of Education with proof of their disabilities obtained from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The process has been overly complicated and difficult, and prevented too many of our veterans from receiving the relief for which they are eligible. This has inflicted significant hardship and serious harm on these veterans and has frustrated the intent of the Congress that their Federal student loan debt be discharged.

Only half of the approximately 50,000 totally and permanently disabled veterans who currently qualify for the discharge of their Federal student loan debt have availed themselves of the benefits provided to them by the Higher Education Act. This has created a serious and critical problem for disabled veterans, who must deal with the day-to-day consequences of their service-connected injuries, and for our military, as readiness and recruitment suffer when we do not take care of our veterans.

There is a pressing need to quickly and effectively resolve this problem. Therefore, my Administration will take prompt action to ensure that all totally and permanently disabled veterans are able to obtain, with minimal burden, the Federal student loan debt discharges to which they are legally entitled.

Accordingly, by the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and to express the gratitude of our Nation for the service of our totally and permanently disabled veterans, I hereby direct the following:

Section 1. Policy. It shall be the policy of the Federal Government to facilitate — in a manner that is quick, efficient, and minimally burdensome — the discharge of Federal student loan debt for totally and permanently disabled veterans.

Sec. 2. Directive to the Secretaries of Education and Veterans Affairs. (a) The Secretary of Education is hereby directed to develop as soon as practicable a process, consistent with applicable law, to facilitate the swift and effective discharge of the Federal student loan debt of totally and permanently disabled veterans pursuant to section 437 of the Higher Education Act, 20 U.S.C. 1087; section 455 of the Higher Education Act, 20 U.S.C. 1087e; and section 464 of the Higher Education Act, 20 U.S.C. 1087dd. To the maximum extent feasible and consistent with applicable law, the process developed by the Secretary of Education should account for and make use of disability determinations made available to the Secretary of Education by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

(b) The Secretaries of Education and Veterans Affairs (Secretaries) shall take appropriate action to implement the policy set forth in section 1 of this memorandum as expeditiously as possible. To that end, the Secretaries shall consider all pathways for the Department of Veterans Affairs to share disability determinations with the Department of Education, so that veterans may be relieved of the burdensome administrative impediments to Federal student loan debt discharge.

Sec. 3. Definitions. As used in this memorandum:

(a) the term “Federal student loan debt” means liability to repay Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program loans, William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program loans, and Federal Perkins Loans.

(b) the term “discharge” means discharge of FFEL Program loans and Direct Loan Program loans and cancellation of Federal Perkins Loans.

Sec. 4. General Provisions.
(a) Nothing in this memorandum shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:
(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or
(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.
(b) This memorandum shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.
(c) This memorandum is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.
(d) The Secretary of Education is hereby authorized and directed to publish this memorandum in the Federal Register.

Some people like to treat these people as throw aways. Other see MONEY as more important than trying to help disabled vets who are disabled and unable to work due to injuries suffered through defending our country..

GOOD START! Let’s cancel ALL of the student loan debt and make 4 years of college and technical training free to all students who qualify. Ler’s face a fact. In the 21st Century, advanced training is required beyond high school and society must provide this training just as we provide free high schools. The questions remain how do we pay for this training? The answer is simple. Get rid of the 40 million illegals and their anchor babies that are costing us $2 TRILLION a year. This will provide ample funds to eliminate 100% of student loan debt and provide free university and advanced technical training to all Americans. The graduates will have ample, well-paying positions once the freeloaders have who are pushing down wages been sent home.
