An Adelaide woman has been found guilty of membership of the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group in South Australia’s first terrorism trial.
A Supreme Court jury returned their verdict against Zainab Abdirahman-Khalif today after three hours of deliberations.
The 23-year-old and her supporters did not show any emotion as the guilty verdict was handed down.
ADVERTISEMENTHer lawyer, Bill Boucaut SC, asked for a six-week adjournment to obtain reports before a sentencing hearing, while Justice David Peek said she could be required to give evidence.
Abdirahman-Khalif’s supporters, who were present each day of the trial, covered their faces and said they did not wish to speak to waiting media in a fiery exchange outside court.
When asked if they accept the jury’s verdict, one responded: “You ask her yourself, don’t ask me… Am I working? Am I getting paid? You get paid, you go and ask,” while another told reporters she was not a terrorist.
