If you read carefully, you may recognize that tea partyer didn’t actually state any facts. Just an opinion. And I think you’ll find that he very much wants to retain democracy, unlike that particular representative.

Note to Kat Mandu: We do not have a democracy in the U.S. Never did, never had, hopefully never will. We have a Constitutional Republic. It’s not a word game. There is a significant, real-world difference between the two. We do not vote directly on laws, we elect representatives to do the voting on laws. The founders did not trust democracy. It goes back to observing the ancient Greek experience with democracy, as described by Plato, among others.
Your comment, in any case, makes no sense. The OP was not commenting on voting, but was commenting on the voters, a fair “target”. Besides, I’m sure you have a few choice words for those who oppose your political thinking and voting. Are you then against “democracy”?

I think it’s fair at this point to make clear to our American friends that the statement by Mr Ellison regarding the supreme courts decision makes it clear to me at least that as a black “progressive” of the hard left, his virtue signalling will propel him to heights of orgasmic ecstasy when he starts the “ball rolling” to revise the US Constitution because it’s “racist”, anti muslim and “anti American”. The “new frontier” for the snowflake left will be to tear it up.
As the European left have proved time and again since 1945, NO valued belief or institution or structure is too well established OR respected to remain unchallenged or unaltered by the hard left and the hard left in America seems as hard as any anywhere else.
The whole reason for the left’s position is simple, tear down what Conservatives value or respect before replacing same with something more “just” and “equal”.

If you weren’t so intellectually lazy, you could educate yourself a bit- but given what I’ve seen of you, you have no interest in that. A fine place for you to start would be Yossi Klein Halevi’s At the Entrance to the Garden of Eden. Halevi, an American Jew who has lived most of his life in Jerusalem, tried to make a outreach to Christians and Moslems. Admittedly, the Moslem community was a tough nut to crack, but he eventually succeeded with a help of a Sudanese who lived most of his life in Mecca and the Sufis in the land of Judea.
Or you might consider Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, of Phoenix, AR. Now he, a forthright reform minded Moslem who has directly challenged the Islamists, has, among other things, called for the separation of mosque and state (accordingly, I think he believes that in a pluralistic society, civil law generally should trump sharia).. Now he has certainly encountered his share of hostility from the Moslem community in the USA; nonetheless, I have no reason to doubt his integrity or his commitment to peaceful change. Islam is in need of a reformation, much like the Catholic Church was when it was of a similar age as Islam is today. Now given the sacred texts of Islam, that may seem like a quixotic quest, but people like Jasser are trying to lead Islam in that direction.

Mum worked with this lady for 25 years. They are firm friends and Mum is welcomed into the extended family of her friend. There has never been attempts to convert. It has always been a live and let live approach. I do know that she (not Mum) was reading the Koran last year and was finding it ‘tough going’. Not sure how that has progressed. I imagine it would be quite distressing for a follower to read that accursed book.
Next time I leave the basement, I will ask my ‘MUM’ if she can update me.

The answer is because moslems for the most part bring their 7th century world view with them when emigrating to a non moslem majority country.
According to Islams doctrines any moslem who renounces Islam, any time- any where, is an apostate for which the penalty is death, sentence to be carried out by any devout moslem at any time.
If you understand the mandates of Islam it includes conquest by occupation of non-moslem land, and, even when they have been driven out, as happened in Europe nearly a millennium ago, they still view those lands as moslem and under moslem hegemony.

In order to be a Muslim you must follow the Koran word for word, attend mosque when you’re supposed to, pray 5 times a day, modest dress , believe that Allah is the only true God and Mohammad was his last prophet. and messenger.
Other than following the violent verses, for which reformers have some clever (or not) workarounds, I’d have no objection to Moslems doing any of those things to their heart’s content. As Pamela has put it, she doesn’t care if you worship a stone, as long as you don’t stone her with it. You might recall that Jews have not stoned homosexuals for thousands of years.
You might reasonably ask which words to follow. I don’t think you can follow both the Islam of the Meccan verses as well as the Medinan verses. As I’ve noted here previously, Reza Khalili, who was an undercover agent for the CIA after the Iranian revolution, said, when he was growing up, he interpreted the aggressive verses of the Koran in a figurative way. Now don’t ask me how that’s done, and this ex-Moslem didn’t go into details, but I don’t doubt there are imaginative ways to do that. As the Red Queen put it, she had believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast!

This is why I never use the word “Muslim”. I don’t know what it means. It’s definition seems to be a slippery one. The Left likes to define it as a race. I, instead, use the word Islamist, one who thinks everyone in the world must submit to Mohamed’s Koran and hadiths, and Allah, whoever or whatever the latter is. Yes, it is ideology based; it is not a race of people, because an Islamist can be from any and all races of the earth. The Iranians, for example, are not Arabs. They are Aryan, Caucasian.
However, I think when Abby says muslim, she means Islamist. You can tell by the context of her sentences. She is using that definition of the vague word “Muslim.”
