Turkey: 90,000 mosques pray Qur’anic “conquest” prayers calling on Muslims to be “ruthless against unbelievers”

Surah al-Fath is the 48th chapter of the Qur’an. It promises Muslims who wage jihad much material reward: “Allah has promised you much booty that you will take and has hastened for you this and withheld the hands of people from you – that it may be a sign for the believers and He may guide you to a straight path” (48:20).
Story continues below advertisementIt also contains this command:”Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are ruthless against the unbelievers, merciful among themselves” (48:29).
This is the message that the Turkish government is giving to its soldiers as it sends them against the Kurds. It’s interesting in light of the fact that Islamic apologists in the West routinely insist that such verses apply only to seventh-century situations, and not to today in any way, shape or form. The Diyanet didn’t get the memo.
“‘Conquest’ prayers performed across Turkey’s mosques for Afrin operation,” Hürriyet Daily News, January 21, 2018:
Special “conquest” prayers were held across all of Turkey’s 90,000 mosques on Jan. 20 and Jan. 21 for the victory of the country’s military, which launched a cross border operation in Syria’s northwestern Afrin region on Jan. 20 against the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).
“Sessions will be held after the isha prayer tonight [Jan. 20] and the morning prayer [on Jan. 21] due to Operation Olive Branch,” said Religious Affairs Directorate (Diyanet) head Ali Erbas in a message sent on Jan. 20 to all offices of muftis and religious officials across the country.
“The Surah Conquest [Surah al-Fath] will be cited during the special sessions to pray for the victory of our heroic security forces, who have launched an operation against terrorist groups that threaten our nation and our peace,” Erbaş added….

Every non-Muslim politician in the U.S. should call for every mosque to be searched and inspected regularly. It would cause a huge outcry, and probably be illegal, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great idea. But, not one single politician (except maybe the Man at the top) would have the guts to do it.

Big Brother state eh Ed. It’s a worry to people and media the world over although the Antipodean media branch seem to have gone a bit quiet on the Iranian protests since the mullahs regained control and slammed the jail doors on thousands. Not a peep out of the media now on the Turkish coup dissidents.either. Perhaps it was all fake news? Objective, unbiased down under media would be telling us if the young Iranian virgins were being brutally deflowered before their execution as per their quaint Iranian tradition, wouldn’t they. Wouldn’t they Ed? Surely they’d never cover up Islamic state brutality.
Of course we can’t have precedents being set. Well Uncle Sam has appropriated that good ol’ ME dictum: the enemy of my ally is my ally. But we can’t blame them too much after Putin did likewise. You missed out on the success he had against ISIS? Sad. My media was full of it, unlike the (non) coverage on Erdogan’s current remonstration of the Kurds.
My opinion on the ’53 overthrow is the same as my opinion on the conquest of Constantinople, the carveup of Poland, the artificial creation of Pakistan, the annexation of the Sudentenland, the PLO in Lebanon and the slow dismemberment of the Moriori. Shameful events one and all which set in place unforeseen and highly regrettable events (and in the case of the latter, extinction of an entire people.) But why does only one country draw your condemnation?
I can’t surmise what you regard an unbiased media report to be so I’ll leave you to ze Google to source information on the rape of virgins (and post-virgins, female and male) in Iranian prisons. But I will recommend you start with Ayatollah Hossein-Ali-Montazeri and/or Maryam Rajavi. Also the Iran Human Rights Documentation Centre.

I bring up Iran for two reasons,It relates directly to the situation in Iran today , The over throw of the Mossdegh govt led eventually to the mullahs,

So Tony Blair was sPammed? Foolish Brits. Perhaps you need to get over your preoccupation with Americans and take your considerable sagacious talents to the assistance of the Limeys. I saw the light when I travelled in the ME Ed. Blazing, harsh and unrelenting as it was. I returned to the West grateful for my humble status and the freedoms which my father’s generation paid for with their lives and which are slowly being eroded piece by piece. It is the reason that you and I are not conversing in Japanese or German, but that might just be another of those dreadful mistakes made by those gaw’ damned Americans eh. Oh the picaninnies shouldn’t have caused too much trouble. It was a second colonisation for them after all. Yes the Russian involvement is very much under-rated on this site. I imagine many would be surprised at the number of French deaths as well. Have you been to the Caen Memorial? I found that quite an eye opener and more than a little upsetting. Not quite as heart wrenching as Auschwitz or Dachau of course.
You would find it more enlightening to discuss your Biblical queries with your Muslim buddies than with this agnostic. Being of a religious bent they may be more knowledgeable about doctrinal matters although I have heard the Bible is more descriptive rather than proscriptive. Not so much for the Qur’an I think.
Should I ever get the opportunity I will pass on a meeting with the marvellous Miss Merkle. Second-rate, politically correct but clingy actresses are not to my taste. Or for many Brits if one rightly understands social media comments. Nor have I any wish to fly thousands of miles to stand 6 deep in a crowd on a miserably cold and grey English day.
