While this AP report singles out ‘foreigners’ (Westerners who would almost certainly import jihadist savagery upon their return home) fighting with ISIS for death on the battle field, one would hope the implicit shoot-on-sight order applies to all ISIS fighters:
The forces fighting the remnants of the Islamic State group in Syria have tacit instructions on dealing with the foreigners who joined the extremist group by the thousands: Kill them on the battlefield.
As they made their last stand in the northern Syrian city of Raqqa, an estimated 300 extremists holed up in and around a sports stadium and a hospital argued among themselves about whether to surrender, according to Kurdish commanders leading the forces that closed in. The final days were brutal — 75 coalition airstrikes in 48 hours and a flurry of desperate IS car bombs that were easily spotted in the sliver of devastated landscape still under militant control.
Story continues below advertisementNo government publicly expressed concern about the fate of its citizens who left and joined the Islamic State fighters plotting attacks at home and abroad. In France, which has suffered repeated violence claimed by the Islamic State — including the Nov. 13, 2015, attacks in Paris — Defense Minister Florence Parly was among the few to say it aloud.
“If the jihadis perish in this fight, I would say that’s for the best,” Parly told Europe 1 radio last week.
Those were the orders, according to the U.S.
“Our mission is to make sure that any foreign fighter who is here, who joined ISIS from a foreign country and came into Syria, they will die here in Syria,” said Brett McGurk, the top U.S. envoy for the anti-IS coalition, in an interview with Dubai-based Al-Aan television.
“So if they’re in Raqqa, they’re going to die in Raqqa,” he said.
The coalition has given names and photos to the Kurdish fighters to identify the foreign jihadis, who are seen as a threat back home and a burden on their justice systems, according to a commander with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces. The commander said his U.S.-backed fighters are checking for wanted men among the dead or the few foreigners among the captured.
An official with the powerful YPG, the backbone of the SDF that also runs the local security and intelligence branches, said foreigners who decided to fight until the end will be “eliminated.” For the few prisoners, the Kurds try to reach out to the home countries, “and we try to hand them in. But many would not want to take their (detainees),” he said. Both men spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the sensitive issue with reporters.

Dead men don’t provide any useful information. And frankly, I am not a great fan of executing conscripts, of which ISIS had its share. What would you have done if ISIS came to town and told you to join up … or your family could suffer the consequences?
The mistake here has been to grant the enemy combattants the status of being covered under the provisions of a Geneva Convention (or annex thereof).

I seriously doubt that a significant number of conscripts are fighting for ISIS, now or ever. As for those who are, well, that is their misfortune.
What would I have done? Gotten together with my family, armed myself, and KILLED as many of the enemy as I could before they got me and my family.
You are right about the stupidity of conferring Geneva Convention protections to a movement that patently is NOT entitled thereto. Rather than invoking the Geneva Conventions, the civilized world should have revived the doctrine of hostis humani generis, declared all ISIS members outlaws, and gave the green light to anyone and everyone to kill them on sight and without any additional legal process.

Even if you had no guns, which most Syrian civilians did not? Not an effective tactic.
Even with “normal” outlaw gangs, we don’t execute on the spot. We should have held as run-of-the-mill enemy combatants for as long as hostilities continued. A huge error was in “respecting” their religious activities-Korans and preaching about Islam should have been prohibited in the prisons.
Your description of hostis human generic sounds to me like a prescription for legalizing summary justice between tribes. I believe in a legal process.
I do not know the complete answer. But your prescription for indiscriminate killing strikes me as very wrong. Possibly apply that to the “officer corps”, which I understand, the Soviets wanted to do to the Wehrmacht after WW II. Your prescription would place us very much on the wrong side of the judgement of history, and we would deserve the opprobrium we would have gotten. Fortunately, there is no danger of the USA going that way. It is part of the price of being a civilized nation.

ISIS is not a legitimate army of a soverign nation. They are zealots that have no constraints on what they do. Normal outlaw gangs are generally not trying to overthrow governments world wide. NEVER. So, there is no justification to apply the GC to ISIS.
But look at the bright side, any Peshmerga fighter, Syrian

I like what Gen Pershing (I think it was him) did in World War 2 . Islam believes in and always wages Total War. They have always ignored the Geneva convention and have always tortured and murdered prisoners and civilians. Even in the 1950s movies had NPs showing Bedouins murdering any infidel stupid enough to meet them in the desert. They are locked into the Dark Age and any kindness shown to them is seen as (it is) appeasing weakness deserving only of contempt. That is exactly why they are so demanding, aggressive and dishonest when they hit the west. They know that they can escape censure.
The Spanish proved the ONLY way of fighting them is to dish back Total War +++ with the same rules only harsher. They actually laugh at current western rules of engagement and so they should as Vietnam proved that you will NEVER win a war by using Geneva convention rules vs an opponent who is fanatical and devoid of conscience. Thus ALL foreign jihadists should be shot out of hand and while I do approve of torture anyone capable of information should be water boarded (as opposed to having genitals removed, being disembowelled, having eyes/tongue cut out etc. etc standard muslim behaviour) While I also do not approve of most Islamic methods of execution, shooting or hanging the scum will do. I laugh when the leftards call water boarding torture as IMO being burnt with cigarettes when questioned, shot several times and then left for dead leaves you with far more scars and pain than any water boarding.
This is where the Left have lost us this war: you CANNOT treat them as fellow humans as by their actions, comments and attitudes they are decidedly NOT.

This story is a bit misleading. Islam, its Lavant and now ISIS may have been defeated on the battlefields of the Middle East, but they have planted many a seed throughout the world, including Asia, North America, and obviously Europe.
Because of Bush and Clinton coddling islam, and obama waving the white flag, islam has grown outside of the Middle East arena and now we have to fight.

Hmm,the problem with that would be I have put a lot of time,research and testing into making SBGO a product that makes our weaponry RELIABLE and TO Function as they are supposed to,NOT LIKE PIECES OF LOW BIDDER JUNK.

Thank you for the detailed reply and good luck in dealing with the traitors in the US. IIRC my army family member said that his men simply placed a small amount of bacon oil in gun oil containers before they left home. The locals took quite a while to pick up on the humour expressed and were never certain. Several times they were given orders to have their “gun oil” “upgraded” but they only handed in the original stuff. So some PC ***** was suspicious. So according to him all of the jihadists never made it to the happy hunting grounds. All of our rank and file have absolute contempt for the PC lunacy and are sick of fighting with one hand only. I add that this was some time ago and I do not know if he knows about silver bullet but they had no real problems with the weapons using the above.

I provide a complete package which includes,hi vis magazine stickers,2×4 hi vis humvee turret stickers,ace of spades SBGO cards and a letter in english and arabic telling them WTF they’re dealing with.
I lived in Norfolk,Va for some years and SEAL teams and Carrier groups got quite a lot of SBGO.I used to give them SPECIFIC instructions to NOT do any flyovers in choppers and “lose” any of the letters in indian territory during depolyments.

– in the WWII Battle of the Bulge, some US POWs were forced to fuel up some German vehicles, and then shot en masse.
– after that, an implicit ‘no prisoners’ rule was used by the US in that battle
– most of the “laws of warfare” only apply when both sides agree to abide by them
– example: Geneva Accords require uniforms or distinct markings for all combatants.
– Hamas and other terrorists don’t use these markings, and they mix with civilians.
– Logically, Israelis could just mow down every suspected soldier, civilian or not
– but Israel does not do so, on the grounds of the unilateral morality of Judaism
THEREFORE
– If an ISIS Jihadi clearly, completely, and unequivocally surrendered, US soldiers would probably accept them as a POW.

Not quite exact but close. After the massacre at Malmedy. there was a day or two where any German soldier was shot out of hand. but it was quickly realized that it had been the SS and for at least a month later very few SS who surrendered were not shot by the US. The crap shown in that brad pitt movie was just that: crap as by that time of the war the allies were intent on survival and only shot surrendering germans if they broke the rules as seen on the front line(e.g., no sniper ever surrendered with his rifle as it meant instant death while anyone who opened fire and killed a few allies then surrendered was likely to be shot out of hand. That was normal everywhere).
The Pacific war? Now that was comparable to fighting muslims and you ONLY took prisoners when you needed intelligence early in the war. Later on(1944), when they came out of the jungle unarmed they were taken prisoner and in late 1945 when they surrendered in (relative) droves they were also taken prisoner but in combat everywhere NO ONE takes prisoners until it is over or there is a prolonged lull. To do so is suicidal and places your comrades at risk. The GC does NOT apply to combat whatever its developers thought.
IMHO the ISIS prisoners taken will be few and if I was in charge there would be none.

Japanese forces rarely surrendered. They practically fought to the death on Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Tarawa, Saipan, Philippines.

True as far as units were concerned but there were always individuals who did. It was a small % of those who actually fought. And even on Guadalcanal there were some . But most were labour troops or extremely ill and unable to kill themselves. Okinawa had the first real mass surrender of combat troops.
However ANYONE who says that the US should NOT have nuked Japan is a poorly informed idiot as doing so saved ~18 million Japanese and 1 million allied lives ( I know that you did not but I read this crap so often that I jumped in first).
IMVHO the Japanese for all of their war crimes (they executed a member of my family) at least had a concept of honour and died for their country without expectation of any reward , NOT like those who die expecting a gift of virgins and everlasting life. Muslims have prostituted the concept of honour totally.
