Sources say that investigators missed a key opportunity to avert the entire Christmas Day attack in Berlin that left 12 dead and dozens injured. How so?
Some say police had evidence to arrest Anis Amri — who plowed a stolen truck into a packed market — on drug charges, fully six weeks before the attack.

And now police are being accused of covering up this drug crime as a means of protecting themselves from blame.
The Express reports:
“Officials are currently investigating the explosive new claims, which suggest police could have prevent the deadly terror attack.
“Twelve people were killed and dozens injured when Anis Amri ploughed into the packed market last December after stealing a heavy good lorry.
“Now it has been claimed police had the evidence they needed to arrest Amri for drug dealing more than six week prior to the attack.
ADVERTISEMENT“But the authorities failed to act – and instead covered up the shocking revelations.
“The Berlin regional government has now filed criminal charges against two of its own police officers – claiming they falsified documents to cover up the mistake.
“Officers had placed surveillance on Amri’s telephone calls over fears he was a potential terror threat, but instead uncovered evidence he was involved in large-scale drug dealing.
“Previous police reports indicated the Tunisian was only a minor drug dealer.
“But Andreas Geisel, interior minister for the Berlin regional government, said he recently discovered an official surveillance report which showed police had evidence Amri was much more heavily involved in the drugs trade.
“He said: ‘In this document, Anis Amri is accused of professional and organised drugs trafficking.
“‘It would have served as the basis of an arrest warrant that could have prevented the attack.’
ADVERTISEMENT“A second document, seen by Mr Geisel, drawn up on January 17 seems to downplay Amri’s role in the ring — but the minister claims it had been “clearly backdated” to November 1.”
