Israel To Take Control of Gaza

Twenty years of terror …. to right the terrible wrong of evacuating Gaza.

Israel unilaterally left Gaza in 2005. There’s not a Jewish toenail in Gaza. More than that, the Israelis left the farms, greenhouses, hothouses, everything for the Palestinians to make a successful, thriving community. And as soon as they took over, they burned it all down.

Before Israel withdrew, Gaza was a gorgeous, thriving little oasis. Israel (PM Ariel Sharon to be exact) thought by giving the jihadi Jew killers a state it would lead to peace and security for the tiny Jewish nation. He could not have been more wrong.

Remember this Atlas post from September 14, 2005 Palis Loot their future, here?

“These greenhouses are for the Palestinian people,” he said. “We don’t want anyone to touch or harm anything that can be useful for our people.” His plea did little good. Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia implored Palestinians to leave the structures intact, even as people scavenged through debris elsewhere in the settlement.

American Jewish donors had bought more than 3,000 greenhouses from Israeli settlers in Gaza for $14 million last month, and transferred them to the Palestinian Authority. Former World Bank President James Wolfensohn, who brokered the deal, put up $500,000 of his own cash. More

Israel acts on its disengagement plan from the Gaza Strip. Israel withdrew its army from Gaza and uprooted thousands of settlers, people who, over the course of 20 years, had put their love, sweat and tears into building homes and livelihoods for their families there. Many of these families did not agree to leave voluntarily so the army was forced to physically come in and remove them. This was not a violent engagement. It was a day of tears between Israeli civilians and soldiers alike as Israelis removed other Israelis from their homes for the hope that it will be a chance to make a gesture towards peace and quiet for all peoples. Israel gave the Palestinians control over the Gaza Strip. As Israel felt it needed to maintain its ability to oversee its borders with Gaza and the ports of Gaza for security measures, it was still an act in the attempt at transition into complete Palestinian sovereignty in Gaza, should Israel’s security be ensured.
Israel did not, however, abandon its neighbor, The Gaza Strip and its citizens, with nothing. They left electric lines in place, and water services which they still provided. Three thousand greenhouses, built and developed by the removed settlers, that had been used to grow vast amounts of produce were left intact and fully functioning, ready to be picked up and utilized by the Palestinians in Gaza. They could be feeding thousands of civilians in Gaza with the produce grown in the greenhouses. What was the Palestinian response to the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza? To immediately go in and violently destroy the greenhouses, essentially shooting themselves in the foot. (more here)
