A man was taken into custody early Monday morning after slashing a subway rider’s neck aboard New York City’s C Train. The attack occurred at approximately 1:30 am as the train traveled north through Midtown. The victim exited at 50th Street and was transported to the hospital. The attacker stayed on the train until it reached 59th Street-Columbus Circle Station, where he was arrested. Charges against the suspect are still pending, and the motive remains unclear.

This incident is part of a wave of subway violence gripping the city. On Christmas Eve, another man slashed two people in the Grand Central subway terminal. One victim, a 26-year-old woman stabbed in the neck, reported that police were absent during her attack and that no bystanders called for help. That same week, a 56-year-old man was set on fire in New York Penn Station.

These attacks follow an incident where an illegal immigrant set a woman ablaze in an NYC subway, with bystanders merely filming and a transit police officer walking past without intervening. The man responsible, identified as Sebastian Zapeta, had been deported shortly after entering the US illegally in 2018.

Amid rampant subway violence, Governor Kathy Hochul’s focus on combating fossil fuels and leftist prosecutors allegedly targeting non-criminals adds to public concern.
