Amsterdam police report they have made an arrest on an unnamed person who they said was planning to assassinate Geert Wilders.

In a dramatic turn of events, the Amsterdam police force successfully prevented a potential assassination attempt on the life of Geert Wilders, leader of the Dutch political party PVV. The apprehension of a suspect, who had reportedly been planning an attack on the prominent politician, unfolded over the weekend when Amsterdam police officers swooped in on the individual’s residence.
The details surrounding the thwarted attack remain shrouded in mystery as investigations unravel the precise sequence of events. However, Geert Wilders expressed his gratitude towards the Amsterdam police unit, acknowledging their swift and decisive action. In a statement, he remarked, “Many thanks to the Amsterdam police unit, who this weekend arrested an individual in-residence regarding a threat to murder me. Thanks to the team of threatened politicians at the police headquarters in The Hague, I was able to quickly file the complaint. Without the police, I would have been fair game.”
Police Action and Suspect Arrest
The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed by authorities, was apprehended on Friday evening following a threat directed at Wilders via a message on [platform X]. Acting upon directives from the public prosecutor’s office, the police swiftly arrested the individual. While the police spokesperson confirmed the arrest occurred under circumstances demanding immediate action, further details regarding the nature of the threat were not disclosed. The suspect is currently in police custody, undergoing questioning, and is scheduled to appear before a judge-commissioner on Monday.
