Switzerland will ban the use of electric cars for ‘non-essential’ journeys if the country runs out of energy this winter, the government has announced.

Emergency plans drawn up in the event the Swiss are hit by blackouts also call for shop opening hours to be reduced by up to two hours per day, heating systems in nightclubs to be turned off, and other buildings to be heated to no more than 20C.

Crisis measures could see streaming services and games consoles banned, Christmas lights turned off, and all sports stadiums and leisure facilities closed.

I have worked for 34 years for the Los Angeles DWP in steam electric generating stations that burned natural gas. I have kept saying in many comments that the electrical system of the state of California can not handle a large increase in electric vehicles that need to be charged up. Solar and Wind power can not meet this increased demand for electricity. The only way the increased demand for electricity to charge up electric vehicles can be met in California is by building more electricity generating stations that burn natural gas to generate electricity. In other words one fossil fuel is being substituted for another fossil fuel.
