More than 34,000 people have signed a petition after a woman was arrested on a UK street while ‘praying silently in her head’.
Charity volunteer Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, 45, was standing quietly on a pavement in Birmingham when she was approached, questioned and subsequently arrested by police.
Officers had received complaints from an onlooker who suspected she was praying. She was not holding a sign or making any visible form of protest.
An online petition calls for Home Secretary Suella Braverman to: “intervene and demand that all charges against Isabel Vaughan-Spruce are dropped”.
In a chilling video which captured the exchange between Vaughan-Spruce and police, viewed 1.5 million times on Twitter, a police officer can be seen asking: “What are you here for today?”
Vaughan-Spruce responded: “I’m just standing here.”
The police officer asked, ‘Are you praying?,’ to which Vaughan-Spruce said, ‘I might be praying in my head’.
She was then arrested on suspicion of ‘failing to comply’ with a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), in what has been branded by critics as a ‘thoughtcrime’.

This is disingenuous. She’s being arrested not for praying or her religious beliefs but for loitering in a public street in front of an abortion clinic. The police seem aware of who she is and why she’s loitering in front of that clinic. If she were trying to convert Muslims, Hindus, or Jews to Christianity by loitering in front of a mosque, synangogue, or mandir, she would be asked to leave too and if she refused to leave she would be arrested too. There’s a reason why loitering is against the law.
The solution? In a truly free society all streets and sidewalks would be private property. Just like a woman’s body is her private property.

“Loitering” could not be the basis of “trying to convert” anyone. The reasoning in your comment is really strange. You are saying that if there were no public property, she would not be loitering, but would be trespassing, and then it would be clearer that she was in the wrong. But the reality is, it was a public sidewalk, and anyone can stop and pray “in their minds” or openly without it being a considered an invasion of anyone else’s property, rights, dignity, “space,” etc. The police are representing the State, and the State is, by the police actions, advancing the belief that the government is omnipotent and omniscient — both ideas being pure fantasy.

This is in jolly ol’ England where they fought the Nazis at a point in their history, now they act like them. They arrest people for speaking their minds on social media and in public, thankfully, I live in the U.S. where for now, at least, I can tell the president to go eff himself and no one will say anything

So you’re going to tell me there have never been any cases of someone standing around on a corner or walking around a neighborhood where nodobdy knows them, they look out of place, and the cops are called by the neighborhood residents to check what this stranger in the neighborhood is doing there? Or the person is known to the neighborhood as a nuisance or a stalker and the cops are called to escort the person away?

Yup. Britain is not so great anymore. This is not the first time such thought criminals have been arrested for… thinking… as last year an Englishman was arrested at his home, by four Police Officers, and was charged with offending somebody by REPOSTING a comment on Facebook, so ONE person was offended and yet that person is nowhere to be seen.

Correct me if I’m wrong. But I remember seeing LOTS of Muslims in the streets and parks, etc. In recent years, kneeling on Prayer rugs openly Praying. They have blocked people walking on sidewalks and blocked motor vehicle traffic. No one was arrested then. The authorities in Britain have lost their EFFING minds.

Any guesses what the Police would do?.
Meanwhile young English girls in that City are being drugged and raped by smelly old muslim men, some born there and others from Pakistan, and this was probably going on while this English woman was taken away because she was SILENTLY praying outside an abortion clinic, however the local Police are way too busy to arrest any of these muslim rapists as they fear they will be called racist…

Birmingham, where she lives in England, now has white ethic Brits being a minority and muslims in their thousands openly pray, with the head to the ground, while screaming allo snackbar when they stand up and NEVER have any of them got arrested for praying on PUBLIC Property.
