Bail group shuts down after being sued for helping release serial offender who shot waiter

Story continues below advertisementA California bail reform group backed by A-list celebrities has shut down after being sued for releasing a serial criminal who less than a week later tried to murder a waiter in Las Vegas.
The Bail Project — whose supporters include Danny Glover, John Legend and Richard Branson — announced it discontinued its operations due to restructuring in early December, 8 NewsNow reported.
Its closure comes after it posted a $3,000 bond for burglary suspect Rashawn Gaston-Anderson in December 2021.
Six days later, Gaston-Anderson shot Chengyan Wang 11 times in Chinatown, 8 NewsNow reported.
In a plea deal, the 24-year-old was convicted of attempted robbery and mayhem, both with deadly weapon enhancements, according to News 3 Las Vegas.
Gaston-Anderson was sentenced in December to seven to 18 years behind bars for the shooting.

Wang — who also is suing Gaston-Anderson and Shanghai Plaza owner US Hui De Real Estate Investment Corp. – is seeking over $15,000 in damages from each defendant, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
“He’s got scars all over his body. He can’t move his shoulder over a certain height. I don’t know how (the bullets) missed a vital artery,” the victim’s lawyer, Kory Kaplan, told the newspaper.
The lawsuit accuses The Bail Project of failing to take into account Gaston-Anderson’s potential danger to the community given his pending and past cases.
In 2018, he pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny in Las Vegas and was sentenced to 18 months of probation.
The following year, he was convicted of felony burglary in New York and in 2021 he was convicted of auto theft in Illinois, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson told the news outlet.
In November 2021, he also was arrested for pandering and carrying a concealed weapon, 8 NewsNow reported.
He was reportedly released without bail and ordered to stay out of trouble.
However, he was arrested again the following day on burglary and theft charges. The repeat offender was then sprung from jail after the non-profit posted his $3,000 bond.
“Normally when bail is posted, a cash bail, it is a family member or friend who is familiar with the accused,” Wolfson told the Review-Journal.
“One can say, in a sense, they are vouching for the person. They are risking their own money. A family member comes forward, a brother, a friend, and if they put up $3,000 and this person doesn’t show up or re-offends, they lose their own money,” he said.
“In this case, we have an out-of-state national organization with little or no ties to our community who puts up the cash bail,” the prosecutor added.

That vicious thieve who went on a shooting spree is of course of the most criminal and despicable sort.
The horrible fact is hideous guys like him are far from original . Such heinous thugs as him have come and gone throughout history and none of them have ever amounted to so much as a “hill of beans.”
Such criminals can’t make or create anything of value of worth. To put it another way, ,they are completerly useless for creating things are beneficial or merit They are never constructive but only destructive and are only effective in destroying peoples lives and private property and inflicting misery.
In fact , malicious villains are so very unoriginal that they go as far back in history as to ancient times.
So much so that in the ancient book that in the Bible such lawless horrendous characters are described in Romans 3: 15-17 which reads “Their feet are swift to shed blood ; destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they they have not known.” [N.K.J.V.]
Further in the New Testament in Second Peter 2:12 it reads “These ,like natural brute made only to be caught and destroyed… and “will utterly perish in their own corruption.” the that same Chapter it also informs the reader in verse 17 that “These well without water,” in other words, they are useless, and “for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.” Meaning they are going to hell.
Those gang of hoodlums are also well described in the Old Testament. As in Proverbs 4: 16-17 reads “For they do not sleep unless they have none evil; and their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness , and drink and wine of violence.”
Nevertheless all their evil ,sooner or later ,will come back down on them hard. As is the saying “What goes around comes around.” We may all be sure that this old saying is true because it’s upheld by the Bible , Which informs the reader “”Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” Galatians 6:7.

Fifteen grand is all the victim is suing for? Should be millions, those Hollyweird Celebs can afford it. So Glover had a hand in releasing this out of control Lethal Weapon. Shame on you Danny Glover. Playing the role of a cop after bad guys and this is what you do? This career felon should be incarcerated permanently. And really the cops should have issued final punishment on this guy and shot him.
