Prominent Jewish Israel advocate shot and killed in Johannesburg, South Africa

South Africa appears to have learned nothing from apartheid. The oppressed have become the oppressors.

An outspoken Jewish advocate for Israel was shot and killed at his workplace in South Africa by unidentified gunmen who left behind his car, wallet and cellphone.

Sergio Kowensky, the chairman of the Likud South Africa Jewish group, was gunned down Tuesday in a southern suburb of Johannesburg at his air-conditioning firm, according to the South African Jewish Report. The shots, fired at around noon, alerted workers in his factory and others in surrounding businesses.

This is the second such murder in just over two weeks. The Western media has largely ignored this horrific event. What if a prominent pro-“Palestinian” Muslim had been murdered in cold blood? Imagine the outcry from the vile media elites. South Africa is now extremely dangerous for Jews. South Africa’s corrupt government has become blatantly anti-Israel in order to appease its large Muslim voting base, of which many are vigorously supportive of the BDS Movement. In May, the ruling ANC party withdrew its ambassador from Israel for the crime of Israel defending itself against Hamas terrorists along its border with Gaza. The South African government referred to the Hamas riots as a “peaceful protest” against Israel. Physical attacks against Jews in South Africa have increased dramatically, as have attacks on South African social media. Recently a German flag with a swastika in the middle was painted on a wall in Johannesburg.

In June, the South African Jewish Board of Deputies laid criminal charges against three individuals, who have been identified as Muhammad Hattia, Tameez Seedat, and Matome Letsoalo, for posting vicious anti-Semitic tweets. The authorities in South Africa are so corrupt, so anti-Semitic, so fearful and dependent on Muslim voters and BDS supporters, that any attempt by South Africa’s Jewish leaders to protect its 75,000 Jews is completely futile. It’s time for South Africa’s Jews to pack their bags and leave South Africa immediately.

Staunch Israel advocate shot, killed, in South Africa brought to Israel for burial.

World Likud South Africa Chairman Sergio Kowensky, 67, was shot and killed near an air conditioner factory in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The shooting occurred on Tuesday, outside Kowensky’s Serpini Air Conditioning factory. The murderers did not touch his cell phone, wallet, or vehicle.According to the South African Jewish Report, Kowensky was shot several times before being left for dead on the side of the road.

Kowensky, a staunch advocate for Israel and a prominent member of Johannesburg’s Jewish community, was not an Israeli citizen. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and grew up in the small town of Moisés Ville in the province of Santa Fe, which was founded by Eastern European and Russian Jews escaping persecution in 1889.

Kowensky is survived by his wife Alison, and their three children, aged 32-42.

It is not yet clear if the shooting was criminal or anti-Semitic in nature.

On Friday, Kowensky’s body was brought to Israel for burial. The funeral will be held at 12:30p.m. in Be’er Sheva.

The incident closely followed warnings by representatives of South Africa’s Jewish community who said they are seeing an uptick in anti-Semitic rhetoric in real life and on social media. Earlier this week, mural with a German flag and a swastika was painted on a Johannesburg wall.

Separately, another Jewish South African, Jeffrey Zetler, a 62-year-old strawberry farmer, was killed on June 23 near Stellenbosch, a city 31 miles east of Cape Town.
