Chinese leader Xi Jinping plans to speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the first time since the start of the Ukraine war, likely after he visits Moscow next week to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to people familiar with the matter.
The meetings with Messrs. Putin and Zelensky, the latter of which is expected to take place virtually, reflect Beijing’s effort to play a more active role in mediating an end to the war in Ukraine, some of the people said.

A direct conversation with Mr. Zelensky would mark a significant step in Beijing’s efforts to play peacemaker in Ukraine. It would also bolster Beijing’s credentials as a global power broker after it facilitated a surprise diplomatic breakthrough between Saudi Arabia and Iran last week (Wall Street Journal). Politico: Beijing has proposed a vaguely worded peace proposal. Zelenskyy has said he would be open to discussing part of the plan in a meeting with Xi, even as the West criticized Beijing for showing pro-Russia bias in the text (Politico)

This shows that Zelensky is not some dumb drag queen installed by the CIA but a clever strategic player.
With this, he can force China into either not arming Russia (and promising China rebuilding opportunities and much-needed wheat and rare Earth exports) or looking like a fake if it still decided to do so after proclaiming to be a peacemaker.
The world is now watching China to see if it was sincere in this effort or just tried to look nice, and Ukraine can commence a peace process on its own time agenda.
Orban is also heading to Kiev which is a big change from the Hungarian posture of keeping daylight between Ukraine and Hungary. Orban too positioned himself as a mediator of sorts.
His govt press officer, Gergely Gulyas declared that
” The further our border is from Russia, the more secure Hungary is”
This is so far the most direct repudiation of Russia’s interest in absorbing Ukraine (which is what would lead to nuclear WWIII, not Ukraine defending itself as some on this page like to assert) by Hungary
This can be the beginning of the end of this nasty war.
Ukraine is poised to make new gains on the battlefield once the Western armor arrives and has been assured by the West to be armed to the teeth post-peace deal with Russia. Which will be essentially Ukraine’s insurance policy against future Russian aggression. Western Jets are meant to be playing this role. To put Ukraine in a powerful position so to discourage any future Russian aggression.
The model Sweden, Finland, and Poland followed to deter Russian invasions.
Once Ukraine looks like it is able to cut the Russian land bridge from Crimea and expose Crimea to Ukrainian control over its fresh water and supply routes, it will have a good position to negotiate an end to this conflict.
An end that ideally would take Russia back to 2014 borders and Crimea demilitarized of ground forces, enforced by UN peacekeepers. Kinda like Cyprus
That would allow Putin a claim to “victory” that he “protected the Russian minorities and showed the West not to encroach on its periphery without a heavy price and allow Ukraine to remain a functional entity with access to the sea and able to join the EU (or a Nato partnership deal which means no NATO troops and exercises but NATO A5 protection in the event of another attack)
We shall see.
To get there, Russia still needs to lose another 100K men to get its nose bloody enough to feel the need to talk.
China prefers the EU /USA/CAN/AUS/Jap markets to just Russia and Iran.
Because with getting the West it gets the East while just getting the East will lock it out of the West

Article 5 may be in doubt depending on who is President of the US or UK.
Putin would also have to agree to nukes on Ukraine soil in addition to NATO. Reversing Bill Clinton’s disastrous Budapest Agreement of 1994. The Ukrainians probably regret a signing that deal abandonding all nuclear ambitions.

That’s why Ukraine has to be armed like Israel, Sweden, Finland, or Switzerland.
Ultimately that is what deters aggression. Paper is paper.
Russia violated the BP Memorandum. The UK and USA stood with Ukraine (so far) as per the agreement protecting Ukraine’s territory.

Wrong. BRICS is a driving force and Iran doesn’t feature there. China will not choose Ukraine over Russia. As for Zelenskiy, he will take his begging bowl everywhere. There is nothing astute about that corrupt idiot.

PUTIN won the MAN OF THE YEAR award for most corrupt person in the world. An award given to him by the OCCRP – The Organized Crime and Corruption Project.
The award is for his involvement in money rackets and organized crime. However, it doesn’t take into account his state-sponsorship of terrorist groups like Hamas, Iran, Syria, and Hezzbolah.

We will just have to wait and see what power and influence Xi, has on Russia and the Ukraine. I do not foresee that Xi will be able to do anything, but I may be wrong.

It was a slow march starting back in 2000, when Putin brought back the Soviet National Anthem.
Provoking more countries into joining NATO to stop Putin from rebuilding a new version of the USSR.

If Zelensky declines, Putin’s Vietnam will continue. And China may continue to hesitate invading Taiwan because they don’t want to be trapped like Russia.
Xi is offering to mediate because things are really that bad for Putin. if Russia was winning or projected to win, Xi and Putin would want the war to continue. Xi is stepping in to help his ally Putin save face.

China was a party to the Budapest Memorandum and subsequent meetings and made their own separate pledges to support Ukraine. Now Zelensky can confront them face to face. Why you want to distort something so basic is making me wonder what else you may be distorting. You need to pluck whatever hair you have up your anus regarding Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. It is getting annoying.

Why would Xi want to end the war in the Ukraine. When it is helping to bankrupt the West. We are amassing huge debt and weakening our country because we are sending so much hardware over to Ukraine.
