Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky has banned the Orthodox church and officially signed a terrible new law expanding his administration’s control over Ukrainian news media, much to the concern of media unions and press freedom organizations who accuse the Eastern European leader of stifling free speech.

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky rejected a Russian offer for a temporary truce to mark Orthodox Christmas.
The leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to order a 36-hour ceasefire with Ukraine to mark Orthodox Christmas on Thursday, which the Ukranian regime subsequently denied.
“Taking into account the appeal of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, I instruct the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation to introduce a cease-fire regime along the entire line of contact of the parties in Ukraine from 12:00 on January 6, 2023 to 24:00 on January 7, 2023,” Putin said in the order.
“Proceeding from the fact that a large number of citizens professing Orthodoxy live in the areas of hostilities, we call on the Ukrainian side to declare a cease-fire and allow them to attend services on Christmas Eve, as well as on Christmas Day,” Putin added.
The Russian Orthodox Church observes Christmas on January 7, unlike western Christians who celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25. Zelensky promptly banned the church, Ukraine’s largest, in early December.
In response to the request, Zelensky’s presidential adviser Mikhailo Podolyak tweeted that Russia “must leave the occupied territories – only then will it have a ‘temporary truce’. Keep hypocrisy to yourself.”
Podolyak then made the claim that Ukraine has not attacked foreign territory or killed civilians, but only “members of the occupation army on its territory,” adding that the prospect of peace is merely “a cynical trap and an element of propaganda” by the Church’s “war propagandist” leader.

Zelensky maintains Russia is responsible despite evidence to the contrary, Valiant News reported.
The prospect of peace between nations at war for the purpose of celebrating Christmas is not unfamiliar in global history. During Christmas time in 1914, German and British forces entrenched in the bloody chaos of the First World War paused their fighting on Christmas Day to fraternize, exchange gifts and souvenirs, and even play soccer with one another on the battlefield.

Zelenskyy bans churches, yet allows for Ukrainian children in schools to be groomed to be sex slaves (small wonder Randi Weingarten is his BFF). And supports the spreading of transgenderism in his fiefdom (remember when fighting-age Ukrainian men, at the onset of the conflict last year, were making like women to try to: a) avoid fighting for their country, and b) flee the country?).

The banning of the Russian Church was a sensible thing to do as it was an army of the Russian war effort.

This is article is an outright lie. Putin fired rockets and missiles and drones at Ukraine on Christmas Day and Eve. It takes the hight of cruelty to then offer a break for Orthodox Christmas. Did GR miss this.? No churches have been shut down. But the MOSCOW PATRIARCH is facing close scrunity and the general mode in Ukraine is to ban it completely. GR needs to be honest in its reportaing and not try emulating MSM.

Last time I checked, dictators aren’t elected in fair and free elections. I uaed to like your different point of view and I was very sympathetic to your ordeal but you don’t fight misinformation and propaganda with more propaganda and misinformations. Shame on you Geller.👎

If we look more closely – but also with objectivity – we will find and recognize that, in a certain way, Zelensky is the boss of everyone at the NATO.
The best proof is that everyone executes what he said, and NO one has the courage of another opinion to contradict him…

I enjoy this site that Pamela runs here and we are all entitled to our opinions but not the facts. As of late the War in Ukraine seems to be pro-Putin who is the real megalomaniac and dictator. Putin is way above his head and the misinformation here is rife. During WWII Churchill was a dictator in order for secret security and to this day some files will not be public until 2045.
You really need to listen to real expert historians and analysts like Qwen Matthews. I have many more. I am also a military historian and the main complaint I hear is the money it is costing US taxpayers. Most of the weapons we are sending are somewhat obsolete but will not be used by Nato allies. they are cheaper to use in battle and a money saver instead of dismantling them for scrap. The money spent is 6 hrs worth of money in the US annual defense budget and peanuts compared to what was spent in Afghanistan. Enjoy the video, they are many more upon request.

300 years of history proving otherwise they believe the most outlandish BS if put out by the Putin surrogates .
The OSCE received 50 000 complaints of war crimes.
Of course all are staged, faked, and orchestrated by Ukraine and Nato to smear the heroic Red Arrmy in its liberation of Nazi occupied Ukraine.
I grew spent by childhood under russian occupation so for me this is both tragic to see if at times outright comical.
As if watching a lecture in a North Korean school or the school I went to in the 6th grade. Even then as 12 year olds we secretly laughed at the childish propaganda because it was always too ridiculous to believe.
It works on gullible westerners and Americans who have no idea what they’re talking about.

At some point people start to resent the wholesale deaths of their kids. Even Russians who have a natural tolerance for suffering as it is beaten into them by the dysfunctional culture they have and which is why the rest of Europe wants to be far from them.

LoL! Russian “church” which in Ukraine calls itself “Ukrainian” is commanded by FSB General Gundyaev, who calls himself Father Kirill, also known as Patriarch Kill. Putin did not offer peace. He called for a ceasefire in attempt to regroup russo-fascists troops which are getting their btts kicked.

Pam, I guarantee that any nation, including the US, that is attacked as viciously as Russia has attacked and invaded Ukraine will do EVERYTHING in its power to defend itself, up to and including many things that would be labeled “dictatorial” in normal times.
