ANOTHER Trump-Backed Winner: Tim Michels Prevails in Battleground Wisconsin’s GOP Gubernatorial Primary Against Pence RINO

Former President Donald Trump scored another proxy victory over former Vice President Mike Pence Tuesday, as the onetime commander-in-chief’s pick won Wisconsin’s Republican gubernatorial primary.

Trump threw his support behind Tim Michels, a construction magnate who sank $12 million into his own campaign, while Pence endorsed Rebecca Kleefisch, the former lieutenant governor who served under ex-GOP Gov. Scott Walker.

Michels had a 47% to 43% lead over Kleefisch by the time the Associated Press called the race at 10:35 p.m. local time.

Both gubernatorial hopefuls backed Trump’s assertion that the 2020 presidential election was stolen due to voter fraud, but Kleefisch has said decertifying the results was “not constitutional,” while Michels said “everything is on the table.”

Trump-backed businessman Tim Michels is the projected winner in battleground Wisconsin’s GOP gubernatorial primary, according to The Associated Press.

Michels and former Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch were the front-runners in a field of four Republican candidates that also included state lawmaker Timothy Ramthun.

Michels will face off in November against Democratic Gov. Tony Evers, who faced no primary challenge but who’s being heavily targeted by Republicans as he seeks a second term.

“That’s what this race has always been about, and that’s what the general election race is going to be about as well, standing up for the hard-working people of Wisconsin,” Michels said in his victory speech. “They’ve been left behind by the Democratic Party that just wants to focus on the social issues. From my first day in office to my very last day as governor, jobs and the economy are arguably my number one priority.”

“[My wife Barbara and I] feel like we’re on a slippery slope toward socialism, and it’s being cloaked behind all these other social issues,” he continued. “But we know what’s happening. We can see what’s going. And we said, you know what? We’re going to do everything we can to stand in the way of the tearing down of America, the America that we know and love.”

Michels added, “I’ll tell you what, Tony Evers, he’s failed the people of Wisconsin… He’s been a weak leader. And we are going to make him an unessential worker come November.”

Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to congratulate Michels.

“Congratulations to Tim Michels on his win against a wonderful and highly-competitive opponent, Rebecca Kleefisch,” Trump wrote. “I know both sides will come together and defeat one of the worst Governors in the Country, Tony Evers.”

The fight for Wisconsin’s GOP gubernatorial nomination was latest test of Republican clout between former President Donald Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence, one-time running mates who could potentially face-off against each other for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Michels, a multimillionaire owner of a construction company who poured millions of his own money into his race, was endorsed by Trump in early June. Two weeks ago, Pence once again broke with his former boss as he backed Kleefisch, the former conservative lieutenant governor who served eight years under then-Gov. Scott Walker.

“There is no candidate for governor in America that is more capable, more experienced or a more proven conservative than Rebecca Kleefisch,” Pence said as he teamed up with the former lieutenant governor at a campaign stop in suburban Milwaukee last Wednesday.

And Kleefisch touted that she was “tested and proven and ready to go,” and that she’s “the one who has won statewide four times.”

Two days later, as he headlined a rally for Michels in Waukesha, Trump charged that “Rebecca Kleefisch does not have what it takes to beat Tony Evers… He’s going to win if he runs against Rebecca.”

Asked by reporters on the eve of the primary for comments Trump’s derogatory attacks, Kleefisch responded: “No thoughts that I can share.”

And she seemed to discount Trump’s endorsement of Michels as she emphasized in a Fox News interview on Monday that “the voters of Wisconsin are going to be the ones who determine the outcome of this race.”
