President Joe Biden visited with refugees from war-torn Ukraine in advance of his major address in Poland, and asked one where she got her “beautiful eyes” from.

On Saturday morning, the president visited PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw, Poland to interact with the refugees who have flooded into the country from Ukraine, and a crush of reporters was there to document the event.

The president spoke to one Ukrainian refugee who identified herself as Victoria, and who was volunteering to help other refugees.

President Biden hugged the young volunteer and said “God love you.”

He turned to the translator and asked “How do you say, in Ukrainian, who do you owe those beautiful eyes to?”

“Your father or your mother? Who had the eyes?” Biden asked Victoria.

“Her mother,” the translator said.

“Mother’s eyes. You owe mama very big. You owe mama,” Biden said, then proceeded to mingle with other volunteers and refugees.

According to the White House schedule, Biden will also be meeting with the mayor of Warsaw:

the President will meet with refugees at PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw, Poland. He will engage with Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki and Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski to learn about assistance and services that Warsaw and Poland are providing to Ukrainians who have fled Putin’s war of choice, and with nongovernmental providers of humanitarian services, such as World Central Kitchen. This visit will be covered by the out-of-town pool.
