A Compton City Council member was arrested for rigging votes in an election earlier this year in a race he “won” by just one vote.

Compton City Councilman Isaac Galvan was charged with conspiracy to commit election fraud and wasn’t the only one either.

According to Los Angeles County district attorney’s office five others were also charged with conspiracy to commit election fraud.

The charges against Galvan allege that him and another former candidate both worked together to get people from outside of the district to vote for Galvan.

It was also reported Galvan attempted to bribe a registrar employee the night of the election.

The Washington Examiner covered the story and shared these details:

A city councilman in suburban Los Angeles and five other people were charged for securing fraudulent votes in a runoff election that was ultimately decided by a single vote, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Compton City Councilman Isaac Galvan, 34, was arrested and arraigned Friday, facing one count of conspiracy to commit election fraud and one count of attempted bribery with intent to influence an election.

Jace Dawson, a 34-year-old former city council candidate; Kimberly Chaouch, 48; Toni Morris, 34; Barry Reed, 61; and Reginald Streeter, 51, were also charged with conspiracy to commit election fraud, prosecutors announced.

The group is accused of perpetrating an alleged conspiracy that prosecutors said led to Galvan’s 855-854 victory over challenger Andre Spicer in June. The scheme involved Chaouch, Morris, Reed, and Streeter registering to vote at Dawson’s Compton address within the city’s District 2 despite living elsewhere, according to the complaint.

In addition to the fraudulent voting scheme, prosecutors allege that Galvan also tried to bribe a registrar employee on election night as she was counting ballots.

CBS Los Angeles also got the scoop:

Compton City Councilman Isaac Galvan and five others were charged Friday with election fraud, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon announced.

Galvan and former Compton City Council candidate Jace Dawson, both 34, were charged with working together to help Galvan retain his District 2 seat. Dawson also faces a charge of trying to bribe a registrar employee as she was counting ballots on election night.

Four others were also charged in the case – 34-year-old Toni Morris, 48-year-old Kimberly Chaouch, 61-year-old Barry Reed, and 51-year-old Reginald Streeter all allegedly registered to vote at Dawson’s address in Compton, even though they didn’t live there. All four are charged with voting illegally in the election.
