The Reality of the Declared Unrest in Jordan: An Anti-Semitic King Is Unreservedly Supported By the Biden Administration

As it has always been the case, we have heard it countless times from the US establishment, from the far left to the center right: the King of Jordan is our ally, he is a good man, his wife is dressed in the Western fashion and they are liberals, we support him.

This common statement has always been in the headline whenever a situation of unrest arises in Jordan, of course it has been recited sometimes by either misinformed observers or worse, paid-for commentators and former politicians who serve as lobbyists for this regime in Jordan, to conceal its ugly truth from the American public.

Saturday, April 3, 2021 was no exception. The media around the world reported unrest in Jordan that was thought by some observers to be a coup attempt by Prince Hamza, the former crown prince and the son of a US-born former queen of Jordan, against his brother King Abdullah II, which led the king to put his brother under house arrest and to order him not to leave his home, while reports also indicated that high officials were arrested, including the King’s relatives.

Prince Hamza made videos from his house to expose the tyrannical reality of this Jordanian regime, which widely understood and factual considering that the King rules Jordan under an absolute dictatorship in the guise of a monarchy. One of the arrested officials amid this unrest was Dr. Basem Awadallah, who is thought to hold US citizenship and is a former minister and high official in Jordan.

The Jordanian media reported that the reason for Dr. Awadallah’s arrest was because he sold lands to Jews. Yes, you read that correct, this is his charge. Jordan media agency Ammonnews reported:

Ammonnews knew that that Bassem Awadallah was arrested due to suspicious relationships and using the Jerusalem Council for Development to buy lands for Jews.

A security source previously said that Alshareef Hassan bin Zaid and Bassem Awadallah and other Jordanians was arrested for security reasons.

It is worth mentioning that Bassem Awadallah is a former Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court.

Soon after that, the US Department issued a statement in support of the King’s actions, which of course included arresting officials for selling lands for Jews, a clear anti-Semitic action by this Jordanian regime against a citizen.

U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price said, “We are closely following the reports and in touch with Jordanian officials. King Abdullah is a key partner of the United States, and he has our full support.” The US administration has sunk so low as to support a dictator, for that is what Abdullah is.

Under King Abdullah’s rule, Jordanian society has been systematically radicalized against Jews. The reason for this is that this King still believes he can be a Western champion by making himself the only moderate person in the country who can talk to Jews and Israelis. At the same time, historical events showed that a bad destiny awaits any member of the Jordanian public who dares to normalize any relationship with Jews or even help any needy Jewish person.

Unfortunately, the US establishment still insists upon supporting this King as the best option in Jordan, instead of looking at how the Emirati regime normalized its relationship with Israel both formally and informally, and how a Jewish synagogue is set to open in the Emirates in 2022. Because a sustainable peace is a peace that lasts, the King of Jordan has been monopolizing the relationship with Jews for himself and banning any Jordanian citizen from pursuing it, through a systematic course of actions that makes that person subject to persecution without protection from the state.

Just weeks ago, under the Biden administration’s watch, Interpol dropped a warrant for Sbarro pizzeria bomber Ahlam Tamimi, the Number 1 Wanted Terrorist by the US. The Biden administration and all the other US administrations before it didn’t even put any pressure on their antisemitic ally King in Jordan to extradite this terrorist who killed American citizens, too.

It is time for the American freedom fighters to call for redefining the term “ally of the US,” and to support a democratic transition in Jordan that would allow a new liberal and Secular regime to take over and save Jordan and the region. Good examples are seen in the Sudanese regime after the revolution there, that announced secularism as its guiding principle and dropped the Sharia-based constitution, along with normalizing ties with Israel.

Examples of anti-Semitic actions by the current US-allied regime in Jordan over the past few years include but not limited to these:

  • The closure of Aaron’s burial place in Jordan in 2019 because Jews performed “rituals” there.
  • Demanding Jewish tourists remove their yarmulkes upon their entry to Jordan.
  • The Jordanian Parliament, which is appointed by the King and not through elections, signed a memo to amend an investment bill to ban Jews from investing in Jordan.

Jordanian Muslim leaders and media operatives who are allies of the King attacked a city mayor and asked for his resignation because he participated in helping a Jewish tourist family, including children, who mistakenly entered a closed site in Jordan.
