CA Teachers Union Boss Who Led Charge to Close Schools Busted Taking Daughter to Private Preschool
Berkeley Federation of Teachers president Matt Meyer has said it is unsafe for kids to return to their California classrooms but apparently doesn’t see an issue with dropping off his own child at a private in-person preschool.

A group known as Guerilla Momz is calling Berkeley Federation of Teachers president Matt Meyer a hypocrite after spotting him dropping his two year old daughter off for in-person instruction at a private pre-school.
“Meet Matt Meyer. White man with dreads and president of the local teachers’ union,” the group wrote in a tweet on Saturday along with video footage of Meyer. “He’s been saying it is unsafe for *your kid* to be back at school, all the while dropping his kid off at private school.”
Meyer told Fox News in a statement that the video, which blurred out his child’s face, was “very inappropriate” and an intrusion of his child’s privacy. He added that there were “no public options for kids her age.”
Meyer also defended his decision to drop his daughter off at the private preschool, saying the preschool is a lot different than Berkeley’s massive public school district:
“There are major differences in running a small preschool and a 10,000 student public school district in terms of size, facilities, public health guidance and services that legally have to be provided,” Meyer added. “We all want a safe return to school. The Berkeley Federation of Teachers is excited that Berkeley Unified will be reopening soon with a plan, supported by our members and the district, to get our students back in classrooms starting later this month.”
The Berkeley Unified School District remains closed to in-person instruction, though the district reached an agreement with the union earlier this month to open the schools up in May and April as long as teachers have received COVID-19 vaccinations.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released guidance earlier this month saying it was safe to reopen the nation’s schools with or without a vaccination program.
“It is critical for schools to open as safely and as soon as possible, and remain open, to achieve the benefits of in-person learning and key support services,” the new guidance said.
President Biden has made the reopening of the nation’s schools a priority of his first 100 days in office, but the push to get kids back into classrooms has fueled heavy resistance from teachers unions across the country.
