The long road back begins. Those who predicted that President Trump would go quietly into the night were sorely mistaken. He’s going to take another run at the POTUS in 2024. And it would be very unwise to bet against him.

The big news out of the CPAC conference so far is the Golden Trump. That’s the larger-than-life golden statue of President Trump, who is due to address the conservative parley tomorrow. No doubt the statue was rolled out in a well-intentioned rah-rah spirit. The pundits, though, went straight for Exodus 32:4, likening the golden Trump to the golden calf the Israelites fell to worshipping while waiting for Moses to descend from Sinai.
That’s understandable enough, given how intensely Mr. Trump is being awaited in the wilderness of Orlando. The question is whether the GOP will emerge as the party of Trump or the party of principle. The two needn’t be mutually exclusive, in our view. Mark, though, that making the GOP the per se party of Trump is a temptation to idolatry. It can’t be good for either the GOP or Mr. Trump.
As we write this editorial, the wires are moving all sorts of reports downplaying the feud within the party. “The Republican Civil War is now cancelled,” is how the New York Post reports it was put Tuesday in a memo from the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Rick Scott. Yet on Friday, Donald Trump Jr. was warning CPAC against “blindly” supporting GOP incumbents.
The former president’s son took particular glee in mocking Vice President Cheney and his daughter, Liz, the number three Republican in the House. She voted for impeaching President Trump. “Liz Cheney and her politics are only slightly less popular than her father is at a quail hunt,” is how Don Jr. put it. At one point he suggested that the C-PAC conference could be called T-PAC.
Speaking at CPAC on Sunday, former Trump economic adviser and news commentator Larry Kudlow already hailed the former president as “the boss” during his own address.
Described as “Woodstock for election liars” by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, Joe Biden has said he will not be paying attention to the gathering in Orlando, Florida.
Trump to go after Biden in highly anticipated CPAC speech
By New York Post, February 26, 2021
Former President Donald Trump will use his highly anticipated speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference this Sunday to slam the Biden administration and highlight areas of policy disagreement, according to Fox News.
The former commander in chief will also direct considerable attention to issues like illegal immigration, energy policy, the closing of schools and identity politics.
The speech will be the 45th president’s first since leaving the White House. In the month since he’s left public life, Trump has been mostly silent.
When he has spoken out, it has largely been through statements released by a spokesperson.
A representative for the former president could not immediately be reached by The Post for comment on his speech.
Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows revealed more details about the upcoming speech in a Thursday night interview with Fox News.
“Well you’re going to see a speech on Sunday that talks about not only the beginning, but what the future may look like, and I’m excited about it,” the former House Freedom Caucus chairman told the network.
“I spoke to President Trump last night for a fairly lengthy conversation where [we] we’re talking about America, where it needs to go, continuing the America first agenda,” Meadows continued, “But more importantly than that, how this President — Biden — has undermined that particular policy within days. And we see it.”
“What we will see on Sunday is we will see the start of planning for the next administration. And I can tell you, the people that are at the top of that list, all of them have Trump as their last name.”
In his keynote speech at the conservative conference, the 45th commander in chief is also expected to declare himself the “presumptive 2024 nominee.”
