Conservatives slam Biden administration over possible restrictions on Florida travel due to coronavirus fears

President Biden was widely panned by conservatives in response to news that his administration is weighing possible domestic travel restrictions on Florida in fear of the coronavirus.

“This is nothing short of political payback and tyranny towards a state with exceptional leadership and a common-sense, scientific approach to COVID-19,” Republican Rep. Andy Biggs tweeted Wednesday in response to news the Biden administration is considering restricting travel from Florida to stop the spread of new coronavirus mutations.

“The Biden administration must stop these considerations,” Biggs added.

“Trump got massive blowback for having travel restrictions against countries the Obama Administration considered a terrorist threat,” political commentator Ryan Girdusky tweeted. “Biden wants to open our borders to world but close the borders of Florida.”

The COVID-19 restrictions in every state

“Is the Biden admin going to be tougher on the Florida border than our southern border?” the Daily Caller’s Twitter account posted.

“Trying to punish states that follow their own path,” attorney Robert Barnes tweeted.

Florida, at the direction of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, has shied away from strict lockdown measures implemented by other states across the country, which has provoked sharp criticisms from liberals and many health experts.

Biden administration officials are reportedly concerned about the outbreak of new coronavirus variants, specifically one from the United Kingdom, that has become prevalent in Florida.

“There are active conversations about what could help mitigate spread here, but we have to follow the data and what’s going to work,” a White House official said. “We did this with South Africa, we did this with Brazil, because we got clear guidance. But we’re having conversations about anything that would help mitigate spread.”

The White House says that no official decision has yet been made.
