Black Women Hit Hardest by Biden-ployment Slump

The first jobs report of the Biden administration saw black women the hardest hit by a slumping labor market.
Story continues below advertisementEven though the nationwide unemployment rate fell in January, the unemployment rate for black women jumped from 7.7 percent to 9 percent, the biggest increase among demographic groups reported by the Department of Labor.
The unemployment rate for black men rose just one-tenth of a percentage point. The unemploymeent rate for white men rose three-tenths of a point to 6.2 percent. The unemployment rate for white women remained at 5.3 percent.
Asian unemployment also jumped in January. The rate went from 5.8 to 6.6 percent. The Department of Labor does not separate Asian unemployment by sex.
The unemployment rate for Hispanic men fell one-tenth of a percentage point to 8.9 percent. The rate for Hispanic women rose from 8.8 percent to 9.2 percent.
The jump in unemployment for black women as the Biden administration begins makes for an awkward contrast with the administration’s goal of lowering racial and gender inequalities.

“I’ve been an economist for a long time, and one of the areas where I’ve focused my attention is on the racial disparity in economic outcomes,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in talk with members from local Black Chambers of Commerce on Friday.
The loss of jobs following Biden’s election is already testing that focus.

…and if he is running short of criminals he could always approach Merkel. African countries are emptying their prisons of criminal scum by paying the people smuggler gangs who are bringing them by the ship loads to Europe. Merkel is bringing of the the so called rescued and re-labelled as refugees scum to Germany. Perhaps Biden could have a fair share of them as well.

Under this law, the president still has complete discretion to issue an emergency declaration—but he must specify in the declaration which powers he intends to use, issue public updates if he decides to invoke additional powers, and report to Congress on the government’s emergency-related expenditures every six months. The state of emergency expires after a year unless the president renews it, and the Senate and the House must meet every six months while the emergency is in effect “to consider a vote” on termination.
By any objective measure, the law has failed. Thirty states of emergency are in effect today—several times more than when the act was passed. Most have been renewed for years on end. And during the 40 years the law has been in place, Congress has not met even once, let alone every six months, to vote on whether to end them.
As a result, the president has access to emergency powers contained in 123 statutory provisions, as recently calculated by the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law, where I work. These laws address a broad range of matters, from military composition to agricultural exports to public contracts. For the most part, the president is free to use any of them; the National Emergencies Act doesn’t require that the powers invoked relate to the nature of the emergency.

This is how you return Trump’s booming economy back to Obama’s economy of secular stagnation/under-employment. Yes, too many workers and not enough good paying jobs—just a lot of low paying part-time jobs. Remember those days?
