Newest “Squad” member says she will use the seat to ‘affirm the dignity and humanity of Black and brown communities’

Rep.-elect Cori Bush, the first Black Lives Matter activist to serve in Congress, has landed a high-profile job on the powerful House Judiciary Committee.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi made it official on Friday when unveiling the incoming freshman class committee nominations.
Bush, frequently referred to as a new member of “The Squad,” featuring New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has been at the forefront of racial justice protests. She said she’ll use her new assignment to “affirm the dignity and humanity of Black and brown communities.”
“I ran for office on the promise of justice,” Bush, D-Mo., said in a statement. “Justice for Black lives. Justice for Michael Brown Jr. and Breonna Taylor. Justice for every community held back by racist systems and oppression. Today, I am proud to have been named to a committee with the power to bring about justice for all.”

Bush is a registered nurse, single mother and ordained pastor. She became a civil rights activist after Brown, an 18-year-old Black teen, was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo.
Bush made it to Congress by unseating a more traditional Democrat, 10-term incumbent Rep. Lacy Clay, in a heated primary.

Bush had the backing of the progressive insurgent group Justice Democrats. She was also featured in the Netflix documentary “Knock Down the House” along with Ocasio-Cortez to highlight their grassroots campaigns to defeat powerful incumbents.
Bush said she’ll bring the power of her “lived experience” to the Judiciary Committee.
“It is a power that comes from the pain of being a survivor of sexual abuse and domestic violence, of having been unhoused, stomped by the police, and forced to live paycheck-to-paycheck,” Bush said.
She said she’ll “legislate in defense of Black lives.”
Joining Bush on the committee will be North Carolina Rep.-elect Deborah Ross, an attorney and former state lawmaker, and progressive New York Rep.-elect Mondaire Jones, a graduate of Harvard Law School, former federal law clerk and practicing attorney.
Jones, who is one of the first openly gay Black men to serve in Congress, said his priorities will be protecting the rights of LGBTQ Americans, fighting voter suppression and expanding the Supreme Court.
“The far right has spent decades on a hostile takeover of our federal courts,” Jones said on Twitter in response to his new role on the Judiciary Committee. “There is now a 6-3 hyper-partisan, conservative majority on the Supreme Court that favors big business over working people, and seeks to undermine our democracy. We must expand the Court.”

I know Christians do not want to believe that there are many atheists, especially though not exclusively Objectivists, out here fighting against the advance of the Marxist state and in defense of the freedom to exercise our rights as they are. But we are here, and we must all stand against the Left because no Imaginary Being’s “grace” is going to save us. That is our job.

Christ, Himself said, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:14). When protecting one’s family or neighbor, a Christian is unselfishly risking his or her life for the sake of others.

Out of all the pro-“migrant” organizations, many, MANY are christian. Yes, they do crap on Jesus’ teachings on a regular basis, most of them without even realizing it, but they call themselves “christians”.
Your last paragraph is like saying to me “the Pope is christian” when he is Clearly a Godless Communist Blasphemer, it just goes against reality.
And yes, I do know a lot of christians (I’m one by birth and education) and a lot of atheists. Most atheists don’t care about christians, the christian traditions don’t bother them in the slightest, unlike commies and non-atheists that want them Dead. Hell, most atheists celebrate Christmas and Easter, among other things.
Don’t confuse atheists and communists, most atheists are against communism and its evil, evil deeds.
And yes, even if I’m an atheist I believe in the existence of Evil, especially Absolute Evil, it’s not contradictory, it’s merely a fact of sub-human nature.

Hi, felix1999. Why bother with referencing any after-life with a follower of the Religion of Atheism. Allow them to have their beliefs. Most of us, at least many of us, had a phase of being a member of that religion. A goodly number, myself included, faced logic and grew out of that phase.
Some do not and that is their privilege and their right.
The only religion with which I have any problems is that of mohammadanism. Religion of Atheism is fine and bothers me naught. Their missionaries and evangelists do. At least Jehovah’s Witnesses and mormon “elders” are polite.
Just let them practice their religion (Atheism) and let it pass. They should have the same respect for your religion.
The religion that I find hilarious is the religion that worships some dead thing that used to spread its legs for all comers (pun intended).

So its fine to have a left to very left Supreme Court but outrageous and a threat to have a conservative Supreme Court.
The same laws govern all Americans, but because of that the legal system is racist again non-whites? So if you break into my house and stab me for being white, to arrest and sentence you would be racist? I bet Bush’s view is that if I defend myself I would be the racist.
It seems to be an unforgivable sin to be white and therefore whites must be disenfranchised. The non-white minority must be in charge by right of skin colour and to say anything against that is racist. The way things are going, Apartheid is coming to white majority countries where the white majority must be ruled by the non-white minority.
We are already seeing this in TV advertising. Its becoming more and more infrequent to see whites or white couples. Almost all commercials show whites as part of a mixed race couple. Sorry, there are not enough “people of colour” to go around. Anyone spending a day watching the commercials would believe whites are a minority.
BTW, the Brown killing was someone trying to take an officer’s gun. Doing that may get you shot. And that Brown was killed Bush became part of BLM, the racist Marxist organisation interested in overthrowing the government and making a Marxist/Socialist country. If the cop defending himself was black, would it still be racist if Brown was shot?
