‘She is asking me why she got shot, why I couldn’t save her’: Stray bullets wound dad and 8-year-old daughter trick-or-treating in Manhattan

Story continues below advertisementA father out trick or treating with his kids in Harlem was wounded in a hail of stray bullets — and watched in horror as one stray slug struck his 8-year-old daughter.
“I can’t stop crying. I’ve been crying all night,” said the dad, James, a construction worker who lives in the Bronx. “He was shooting in a crowd, no regard for human life . . . My mind is so messed up, I haven’t been able to sleep.”
The father asked that his last name not be used because he is worried about retaliation. But he most fears the longterm fallout for his wounded daughter.
“She’s already autistic but now she’s extremely traumatized,” James told the Daily News. “She’s asking me why the man shot her. She’s scared. I don’t think she will ever be able to see another gun, or have another Halloween.”
James had just finished trick-or-treating with his two daughters. His daughter Jamie was dressed as an astronaut, while her 6-year-old sister went as Elsa from “Frozen” The girls were about to cross the street with their dad to meet their mom in a CVS store when shots rang out.
“I just saw him step back and saw him pull his gun out and start blasting,” James said of one of the shooters. “Unfortunately, my daughter and I were in the path of where he was shooting.”
“I saw my daughter stumble and I saw her grab her leg. I started s—-ing bricks,” he added. “Then I saw blood come through her pants and I was so scared . . . I just prayed she wasn’t shot anywhere else. Do you know how sinister that is, to hope your daughter was only shot in the leg and not her body?”
James grabbed his daughters and flagged down the first car he saw. A good Samaritan driving a yellow cab picked them up and drove them to Harlem Hospital.
Medics took the woman who was shot to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition, police said.
“I didn’t realize I was shot until I was already in the car heading to the hospital and started to feel the sensation,” said James who was struck in the right arm. “It was like a million bees sting me at once. My arm was just on fire. Now I have a big hole in my arm.”
Doctors treated the father and daughter but James remains concerned there will be permanent damage for his little girl, both physically and mentally.
“She has a hole in her leg from one side to the other side and her bone is shattered, her shin,” he said. “By the grace of God It wasn’t fatal. But I don’t want my daughter to have permanent leg damage.”
“She is asking me why she got shot, why I couldn’t save her,” he added. “Do you know what that’s like? Why I couldn’t pull her away, asking the police why they couldn’t get him (the shooter) yet.”
James was supposed to start a new construction gig Sunday.
“I had to call out,” he said. “Construction is manual labor and my arm is killing me. I’m just hopeful it can subside so I can go back to trying to make a living for my family.”
On Sunday, cops released surveillance images of the two suspected shooters.

I must say, there is not a single entity on Earth that is better at killing joggers than joggers. Guess that after all this time, we found a use for them after all, imagine that!
Tell me again just how much black lives matter. From what I can tell, they’re worth less than a bullet :’).
