Cattlemen and Westerners often have very nice hats that they use for special occasions. A good cowboy hat that will last, and stand up to all weathers, is a rare thing.

My father gave me a 4X. I asked him why not 5? He told me to fill up a feedlot and he’d think about it.

When I got to Taxes, I was shocked at the number of c’boys (cowboy without the “ow”). Doctors, lawyers, ‘n injun chiefs … all with their Tony Lamas and a c’boy hat. None, at least that I’d met, had ever even been on a feelot or a cow-calf ranch.

The number of my gold x … haven’t been able to see it in many a year. But, the hat looks almost as good as new, forty years later.

I did have one old boy tell me that, when sitting your hat, down on a table or bar, to never lay it brim side down. It was supposedly poor manners and bad for the hat.

Where I came from, other than the buyers and dealers, all of the cattlemen wore “Feed Full-o’-Pep Feed” hats. The insulated ones even had earmuffs.

Many real deal honestly wealthy do not have to put on a big show for they are known in those circles yet do not stand out to others for driving an older pickup truck and look like a real rancher- because at heart that’s all they are and proud of it- not wanting to impress others.

One owns an electrical windings company and the other holds a medical patent + manufactures the products.
