GREAT BARRINGTON DECLARATION: Tens of Thousands Of Scientists, Doctors (Inc. Harvard, Stanford, Oxford University) Urge END ‘DEVASTATING LOCKDOWNS,’ More Deadly Than COVID

At last, the medical and science communities tell the truth despite intimidation, harassment and ruin from the Democrat media complex.

15,000 scientists and doctors worldwide have signed a newly created document urging an end to pandemic lockdowns, arguing that the policies aimed at curtailing the novel coronavirus have produced “devastating” effects on public health.

Story continues below advertisement

“Devastating” collateral damage includes economic catastrophe, social harm, and a lack of schooling for children.

The Great Barrington Declaration, which was released Tuesday and continues to gather signatures, was spearheaded by doctors from Harvard, Stanford and Oxford University.

Lockdowns are more deadly and dangerous than COVID, according to the Declaration.

In Great Barrington, scientists declare policy for living with COVID: Shield only the most vulnerable for herd immunity

Scientists converge at summit in Great Barrington, pen declaration for COVID policy

GREAT BARRINGTON — Three top scientists say there’s another public health crisis underway, and it is the poor and working class who suffer the most from a COVID-19 policy that also is slowing development of herd immunity.

They say the rise in mental health and substance abuse problems, as well as excess deaths and other medical problems from lack of care, are the result of seven months of lockdowns meant to stop the virus.

A flawed gospel of risk that has been leveraged by politicians, they add, is ruinous to public health as a whole.

And they say they have a better plan: “Focused Protection.”

This would expand and fortify ways to shield those most vulnerable to death from infection, while allowing the least vulnerable to live normally and build immunity that will ultimately better-protect the old and weak.

This, they say, will also reduce “devastating” collateral damage that includes economic catastrophe, social harm, and a lack of schooling for children.

In a whirlwind summit at the American Institute for Economic Research last week, three infectious disease epidemiologists drafted and signed the Great Barrington Declaration to propose the idea and launched it online for signatures.

As of Wednesday, more than 8,000 medical and public health scientists and medical professionals have signed it; as well as more than 76,000 from the general public.

The scientists are Dr. Martin Kulldorff, professor of medicine at Harvard University; Dr. Sunetra Gupta, professor at Oxford University; and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, a Stanford University professor. All three are epidemiologists.

They say ancillary effects of the lockdowns include “lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings and deteriorating mental health – leading to greater excess mortality in years to come”

They say it is a “grave injustice” to keep students from school, and that the poor are most affected.

“Keeping these measures in place until a vaccine is available will cause irreparable damage, with the underprivileged disproportionately harmed.”

When the pandemic hit the U.S. in mid-March, strategies to “bend the curve” of escalating infection have turned into a protracted shutdown of normal life that appears to be continuing until an effective vaccine is ready.

Thousands of scientists urge end to ‘devastating’ lockdowns

Document cites impact on public health, calls for ‘focused protection’

By Valerie Richardson – The Washington Times – Thursday, October 8, 2020

About 15,000 scientists and doctors worldwide have signed a newly created document urging an end to pandemic lockdowns, arguing that the policies aimed at curtailing the novel coronavirus have produced “devastating” effects on public health.

The Great Barrington Declaration, which was released Tuesday and continues to gather signatures, was spearheaded by doctors from Harvard, Stanford and Oxford University.

“As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection,” said the declaration.

The document argued for allowing most people to “live their lives normally to build up immunity through natural infection,” while improving safeguards for the elderly and others at greater risk of death from COVID-19.

“Coming from both the left and right, and around the world, we have devoted our careers to protecting people,” said the declaration. “Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health.”

They include “lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings and deteriorating mental health—leading to greater excess mortality in years to come.”

The three lead signatories, who authored the declaration in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, are Harvard professor of medicine Dr. Martin Kulldorf; Oxford epidemiologist Dr. Sunetra Gupta, and Stanford Medical School professor Dr. Jay Bhattacharya.

Thank you — I did and will remind everyone else I know who reads this to do so. I am a “senior” on social security and this has devastated me. The Democrats do not care — devastated people are easier to rule.

When Marcus Aurelius was Emperor of Rome an epidemic hit that killed 5 million people. That is around 161 to 180AD. The population of the Roman Empire was around 40 million people. Think about that. Let it percolate in relation to the global population at that time.

Now about 1 million have died worldwide and the entire country is locked in a Leftist death grip. Leftists are in a faux frenzy, a paroxysm of panic.

Who runs this country?

I don’t blame Trump for the governors’ actions but I do blame him for not doing whatever else he can, to open it up?

I believe that he has the authority to do so AND to arrest these governors underFederal Civil Rights Statutes:
Title 18, U.S.C., Section 242 – Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law.

Just curious… did this guy do something different this year that wasn’t being done last year? It sounded like several people nominated Trump but totally not surprised Trump didn’t get it… TDS is a world wide pandemic that started in 2016 and it doesn’t seem like there will ever be a recovery until perhaps 2024… at which point, if Pence becomes president then TDS will mutate to PDS.

Hi Created: RE the World Food Program. This was another one of Ivanka’s projects. She pushed Trump to increase USA funding to the WFP, and the USA contributes 40%+ of funding, while China contributes less than 1%. SO it’s mainly a USA organization, unlike the UN, the WHO, or the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. Those groups mostly just embezzle their funding, and promote socialism. And Beasley has worked hard to use that new money well, in a way that benefits everyone, including the USA.

Of course, handing out food is just a stop-gap, and the best way to fight hunger is the democratic free-enterprise constitutional republic. With good economic liberties, people figure out how to feed themselves, on their own, without help.

Here are some typical FAO problems:
“Early in 1989, the organization came under attack from the Heritage Foundation, an American conservative think tank, which described the FAO as becoming “essentially irrelevant in combating hunger” due to a “bloated bureaucracy known for the mediocrity of its work and the inefficiency of its staff the FAO”, which had become politicized.”

Thanks! That was helpful. That’s interesting… I’m pretty sure most of the UN is anti Trump. So, it is interesting that this effort was driven by Ivanka so in a way, this was a nod towards Trump even if they didn’t intend it to be.

And yet, the idiots on CNN, MSNBC, etc., are all tripping over each other to report (with glee) on the agendas of those orchestrating the lockdowns. Why aren’t the good citizens of this nation rising up and saying ‘enough is enough’ and just refusing all of it. Does anyone speak out for good anymore.

Because the measures are being enforced by employers who are being threatened with closure of their businesses. Those employers are forcing their employees to enforce the measures and to refuse service to anyone not willing to comply – NO MATTER what the service is, such as food, and medical care! Try going to an ER and see how you are treated. I brought my husband to the ER 2 days ago following a fall from his bike and head trauma and mental confusion. He was told to wear a mask and asked more questions relating to CV19 than of head trauma. He was then put in line and told to wait. My daughter and I were not allowed to wait with him – so who was going to alert them if he lost consciousness during the anticipated 3 hour wait. After he was taken into a treatment room we were told that only 1 person could visit FOR HIS ENTIRE STAY! I could not go in with him go out and let my daughter go in. NO! Only one of us would be allowed to go in with him for the entire time that he would be there. HE IS A DOCTOR AT THAT HOSPITAL AND HIS COLLEAGUES WHO WENT IN TO MEDICALLY CHECK ON HIM WERE TOLD THAT “YOU ARE JUST A VISITOR AND HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE VISITORS.”

And as long as the federal government refuses to stop in and declare an end to all of this unconstitutional bovine manure it will continue!

Thanks for your reply.
I simply do not know what we can do and one of the most frustrating things of all is that the Trump administration web site asks about approval of his handling CV19 but ASSUMES that if you do NOT approve that it means that Trump should go along with this lockdown. There is no way to get the message across that you want him to remove that mask (that virologist don’t wear) and stop this social distancing crap and let business operate. Anyone who is afraid can stay inside and wear a mask until their heart is content but do not impose it on the rest of us under penalty of law – for which there is no law!

???? Correct! There is NO law regarding the masks, despite the idiots/drones in many establishments who are acting as though there is. The first thing healthy people can do, is refuse the masks. And educate others who are willing to listen about the ineffectiveness and, yes, dangers of masks. Also, citizensforfreespeech.com is a good resource.

Yes I am involved in CFF but I have an eye disease that causes blindness and must for the next month go to our medical center once a week and get forced to wear a mask to get in. That is what makes me angry. They have a right and a government EO to REFUSE to provide me with medical care that I am paying for because I do not want to wear a mask and do not have any signs or symptoms of any infectious disease. Before this CV19 crap they only had that right if they FIRST knew for a fact that you had a contagious disease. Now they just base it all on what MIGHT be the case.

I am an MD myself and very interested in how the medical profession has abandoned its stated ethics in order to advance political agendas. One of the most interesting things to me, and something that most people do not know, is that Hitler’s Concentration and Death Camps were entirely run by physicians! Doctors did the selections. Doctors looked through windows as people were gassed and then gave the order to turn the gas off.

Hitler placed the camps under the jurisdiction of Public Health and doctors were assigned to run it. They convinced themselves that this was “humanitarian” because they were saving these people from dying of typhus and other infectious diseases rampant during war. They also rationalized it by convincing themselves that they were improving the gene pool by killing the mentally retarded as well. AND THEY WERE ALL DOCTORS! But also unknown is that NONE of those who participated were forced to do so. They all had the right to conscientiously object.

If you want to learn more read “The Nazi Doctors” by Jay Lifton. The author interviews 8 surviving Nazi doctors along with camp survivors. This is not second hand information. It is truly chilling and what is taking place now happened in the 30s in Germany. God help us.

You are so right. I have seen for myself first hand how medical doctors absolutely REFUSE to write a medical exemption for the mask, despite being presented with sound evidence for providing one. What are they afraid of. Are they under threat from the medical establishment. The argument they gave for not providing it, was the same standard line being vomited by mainstream media everywhere.
Yes, medical doctors were overseers in the concentration camps. Much like we see today in people like Dr. Fauci? We are seeing history repeat itself because no one in power has learned from the past. They are corrupt from top to bottom. Your doing your part, as a doctor, by informing others here. God help us, indeed!
I will look for that book, while books are still available and not yet deemed illegal by the state (Fahrenheit 451).

Are you familiar with the term “Emience Grise?” I cannot be certain but I believe that Fauci is an eminence grise – a person who holds more power than his assigned position grants him, including power over his boss.

Fauci has been at NIH since 1968 and clearly has a lot of clout not only for the things that he controls but in other areas as well. Medical research is heavily dependent on NIH grant money so most high powered medical research centers do not want to be on Fauci’s bad side so they kowtow in whatever way has to be done to be sure that they do not publicly disagree with him. (It will never be in writing but phone calls can be made and conversations behind closed doors may take place.) If they lose grant money they lose their jobs. The medical societies also do not want to get on his bad side and so they kowtow as well. Fauci is very powerful. If not in reality then by perception.

As for the doctors who refuse to sign exemptions they are forgetting that psychological problems are just as valid an excuse as physical ones. If someone says that this really bothers them and is harmful to their sense of well being then that is a valid excuse. There is also a billing code that they can use which is (something akin to) Psychological Distress due to (subset) facial coverings. I do not know the exact term or the billing number itself but it does exist and therefore is legit. Also you do not need to be a psychiatrist to treat psych disorders as there is no limitation on scope of medical practice anywhere in the US. But I think doctors are terrified to use the code because most doctors are employees now and fear loss of employment. And if you are fired from ONE job as a doctor you will most likely never find another one that is respected.

I have not heard that term but, it is quite clear, Fauci is indeed in a position of power more than his position. I found it quite alarming that, in the beginning of all this, Fauci was the one giving the authoritative news conferences as though he were acting above the President.
Very good points on how doctors view this.

Well I can’t speak for the entire profession but that is certainly what I think.
BTW there are 2 very legitimate ICD-10 medical/psych diagnoses that I think can be given to a patient who is not comfortable wearing those masks:
Code 41.9 Anxiety followed by some additional numbers for subset “over facial coverings.”
Code 40.298 Phobia over surgical face masks.
