House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said on Sunday’s broadcast of ABC’s “This Week,” that Democratic lawmakers have “arrows in our quiver,” when asked if impeachment was a possibility to stop a lame-duck Supreme Court nomination should President Donald Trump lose the White House in November and the vacancy following the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has not been filled.
Anchor George Stephanopoulos said, “Let me press you though on what happens. You want people to get out and vote. And even that’s no guarantee that the White House and Senate Republicans won’t try to push through a Supreme Court nomination in a lame-duck session even if Joe Biden wins on November 3rd, even if Democrats win, pick up seats in the House, and maybe even the Senate. So what can you do then? Some have mentioned the possibility if they try to push through a nominee in a lame-duck session that you and the House can move to impeach President Trump or Attorney General Barr as a way of stalling and preventing the Senate from acting on this nomination.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday would not rule out impeachment as an option to stop President Trump’s U.S. Supreme Court pick from being confirmed to the bench, saying Democrats will “use every arrow in our quiver” to block the eventual nominee.
placeholderJust hours after it was announced that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had passed away on Friday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., vowed that a Trump nominee to the Supreme Court to fill her vacancy “will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.”
During an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Pelosi, D-Calif., was asked whether she and House Democrats would move to impeach the president, or Attorney General Bill Barr in an effort to prevent the Senate from acting.
“We have our options. We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now but the fact is we have a big challenge in our country,” Pelosi said. “This president has threatened to not even accept the results of the election.”
She added: “Our main goal would be to protect the integrity of the election as we protect the people from the coronavirus.”
Pelosi was pressed again on whether she would employ impeachment tactics, to which she said the Constitution requires that Congress “use every arrow in our quiver.”
“We have a responsibility,” Pelosi said. “We take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. We have a responsibility to meet the needs of the American people.”
She added: “When we weigh the equities of protecting our democracy, it requires us to use every arrow in our quiver.”

Maybe it’s me but Trump has a Constitutional obligation to fill that vacancy. Another meaningless sham impeachment won’t stop that. Impeachment no longer has the meaning it originally held. It was supposed to be something rare for egregious acts. If they try that, it may only HELP Trump get over the finish line. My guess is people see through this and tired of it.

Thank you Harry Reid for changing the rules and giving us the “nuclear option”. Only a simple majority is needed and filibusters are not allowed – straight up or down vote is all that is needed once it gets out of the Judiciary Committee headed by Graham. Even if they recommend against the candidate, it doesn’t matter – it can still be voted on in the Senate. The GOP controls the Senate and the WH and it is also a Constitutional requirement for the President to determine the replacement. No where does it say this replacement should be held up if a judge dies.

Biden has been all over th e place on this kind of situation –
Biden was all for a Democratic President—and a lame duck at that—nominating a liberal to the high court during an election year – even when the Senate was controlled by Republicans.
To be fair, in 2016 Biden stated that his words then were misunderstood, saying, “They completely neglected to quote my unequivocal bottom line, so let me set the record straight as they say: I said and I quote ‘if the president consults and cooperates with the Senate or moderates his selections, then his nominees may enjoy my support as did Justice Kennedy and Justice Souter,’ end of quote.”
Still, on the evening of Justice Ginsburg’s death, Biden shape-shifted yet again, reverting back to his 1992 “delay the vote” position.
“There is no doubt, let me be clear, that the voters should pick the president, and the president should pick the justice for the Senate to consider.” But voters did pick the president – and it’s Donald J. Trump’s prerogative under the Constitution to nominate the next Justice.
There is no “election year time out” clause in the Constitution; it exists only in the fevered dreams of the party that has no power to block an appointment through the normal political process.
Biden’s reversal of his reversal is a remarkable feat of opportunistic acrobatics, whose twists and turns are curiously unremarked by the media.
