Cardinal Says Biden Not a Catholic in Good Standing, Shouldn’t Receive Communion; Would the Pope Agree?

86

The Catholic News Agency reported Tuesday that Cardinal Raymond Burke, “a canon lawyer and formerly the prefect of the Church’s highest court, has said that Catholic politicians supporting abortion should not receive Holy Communion, including pro-choice Catholic presidential candidate Joe Biden.” That’s the kind of statement that makes you formerly the “prefect of the Church’s highest court.”

Biden, Burke asserted, “is not a Catholic in good standing and he should not approach to receive Holy Communion,” because “a Catholic may not support abortion in any shape or form because it is one of the most grievous sins against human life.”

If that is the case, then Biden is clearly not a Catholic in good standing. Accordingly, Burke stated, “I would tell him not to approach Holy Communion out of charity toward him, because that would be a sacrilege, and a danger to the salvation of his own soul. But also he should not approach to receive Holy Communion because he gives scandal to everyone. Because if someone says ‘well, I’m a devout Catholic’ and at the same time is promoting abortion, it gives the impression to others that it’s acceptable for a Catholic to be in favor of abortion and of course it’s absolutely not acceptable. It never has been, it never will be.”

Story continues below advertisement

The good Cardinal is right in a sense. That is indeed the teaching of the Catholic Church. But teaching is one thing and practice is quite enough. Pope Francis has repeatedly made it clear that as far as he is concerned, the real sins, the real serious sins that get you a tongue-lashing from the Roman Pontiff and doubtless a date with hellfire in the age to come, are opposing mass Muslim migration into the West and believing that Islam is not a religion of peace. Abortion? Come on, man! That’s child’s play, so to speak, compared to the big sins.

Last September, Pope Francis, who back in 2014 fired Burke from his position as “prefect of the Church’s highest court,” made clear what the big sins really are as far as he is concerned, when he emphasized that Christians had a responsibility before God to take in migrants: “This loving care for the less privileged is presented as a characteristic trait of the God of Israel and is likewise required, as a moral duty, of all those who would belong to his people.”

On that same occasion, the Pope unveiled a huge statue in St. Peter’s Square, “Angels Unawares,” which depicts a boat full of migrants and a pair of angel wings, so as to emphasize that the migrants into Europe, among whom have been numerous jihad terrorists, rapists, and other criminals, are saintly and deserving of Christians’ support and protection.

What about Christians in Europe who are concerned about the spiraling crime rates and the strain on the welfare systems of nations that have taken in large numbers of migrants? Are they allowed to exercise charity toward their neighbors and friends by opposing mass migration and trying to preserve and defend their own cultural heritage?

Not on your life. Or at least they can’t do that and remain Catholics in good standing. And Francis’ Brave New Church has other newly-minted “grievous sins” as well. The Pontiff has claimed risibly that “authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence.” As ridiculous and readily disproven as this is, it has become a superdogma in the Catholic Church: if you don’t believe that Islam is a Religion of Peace, you will be ruthlessly harassed and silenced by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and the hierarchy elsewhere as well. The bishops of the Catholic Church are much more concerned that you believe that Islam is a religion of peace than that you believe in, say, the Nicene Creed. And so what possible reason could there be to be concerned about these “refugees”? It’s a religion of peace!

As of several years ago, the U.S. Catholic bishops had 91 million reasons — indeed, 534 million reasons — to turn against the truth and disregard the safety and security of the American people: “In the Fiscal Year 2016, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) received more than $91 million in government funding for refugee resettlement. Over the past nine years, the USCCB has received a total of $534,788,660 in taxpayer dollars for refugee resettlement programs.” And how much have pro-life organizations given to the Church in that span? Not $534,788,660.

As Ilhan Omar might say, it’s all about the Benjamins.

And so Cardinal Burke may say Biden is barred from Communion, but it’s certain that there are numerous others who will readily administer Communion to the candidate. After all, he’s right on the really important things.

“Leave them; they are blind guides. And if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.” (Matthew 15:14)

WELL, that ended badly for the Democrats. Ortega was pushing for a communist takeover of Nicaragua, and Ronald Reagan set out to stop him. The Democrat Congress blocked everything Reagan did, because socialism = good. Ortega eventually won in 2006, and the people of Nicaragua LOST, and it is now the third poorest country in Latin America. Atheism is the lack of belief in a god or gods due to religious claims not having met
their burden of proof. Atheism is not a belief system or a belief, it’s a lack of belief.

Fred: Yes, the definition is clear, atheism is a lack of religion.
But what if the absence itself becomes a ‘thing’ that can be passed around, promulgated, and promoted? I know that logically, that’s like trying to sell “non-ice cream”. Who would buy it?
But the absence of religion can be handy for criminals, perverts, psychopaths, etc., because you can get away with stuff and not get punished. Religion is strict, atheism is loose.
In any case, we have to admit, many atheists do proselytize, try to convert people, and hold it up as a ‘thing’ that is good.
So Felix has a point.

Other than mohammedanism, most religions, including The Religion of Atheism, set forth the same moral code. From whence it is developed is subject to debate. But, most followers of The Religion of Atheism believe that theft, rape, lying and murder to be wrong.

I don’t wear my religion/beliefs on my sleeve. It seems that every member of The Religion of Atheism do.

That’s one of the few things that I hold against The Religion of Atheism.

Hi Ach, yes, that proselytizing, and constant efforts at aggressive conversion by atheists is their most irritating trait.
It is logically impossible to prove that there is no god. But of course people are free to believe illogical things if they want. I just don’t want them to lay it on me. They are irritating, like Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Atheism is not a religion, it’s personal relationship with reality!

Atheism is not a religion. It is defined by a lack of belief in any deity. Atheists say that there is no evidence for the existence of a deity such as that described in any of the major religions and believe that such exorbitant claims as those made by religion demand similarly impressive proof. In the absence of that proof, there is no reason for belief.
There are no holy atheist scriptures, no atheist Pope and no atheist rituals, tenets, creeds, code, authority or ceremonies. Atheists come from every possible background, race and gender. They hold a variety of beliefs and convictions, and no two atheists will have exactly the same views or ideals other than their lack of belief in any gods. Atheists may disagree on many issues.
Atheism according to apologists is a ‘religion’ that requires faith, in fact they often say ‘more faith’ however, this is not a battle of faiths it is a battle of logic paradigms or Science versus the logic of magic. I can’t by use of the scientific method prove Gods don’t exist, only the probability that they don’t, however by use of the deductive reasoning that created Gods in the first place we can prove them out of existence, to the nowhere they came from, now imagine that. As theists reject out of hand ALL scientific understanding of how, when and why the Universe and everything in it came about. Very occasionally they attempt to use scientific ‘probability’ conclusions, made by observation and testing, to undermine science, often with little or no actual scientific evidence, primarily in an attempt to support their own non-scientific beliefs. You can’t get something from nothing is a common mantra and their God is an exception by creating everything by magic incantation, something from a supernatural
nothing????

All religions are made up nonsense. Gods are all man made. There is ZERO evidence for
magical beings or supernatural anything. It’s that easy.
Religions are dying but cannot die fast enough.

“I am an atheist because there is no evidence for the existence of God. That should be all that needs to be said about it; no evidence, no belief.” – Dan Barker

You’re entitled to your beliefs. However, anyone with any logical sense knows that atheism is a religion. It is the Religion of Atheism.

If it waddles like a duck, swims like a duck, has water repellent feathers like a duck and quacks like a duck, chances are it’s a duck.

No problem with you following The Religion of Atheism. It’s your choice.

Let’s spell this out, atheists have no beliefs in common, no gods of any kind, nothing they worship, no scripture, no shared values, and no dogma. They have no clergy, no schools, and no sacred buildings. The only thing all atheists share is a lack of belief in gods.
Why then do the religious so often claim atheism is a religion? We don’t know, you’ll have to ask religious people that question. Perhaps it is an attempt to drag atheism down to the level of a religion—a set of unsubstantiated beliefs, in a landscape where beliefs are held only
on faith. If so, they would be completely wrong about that too.

Hi Fred
Well when I said,

“But the absence of religion can be handy for criminals, perverts, psychopaths, etc.”
I mean that atheists reject the Bible, and other religious texts and rules, so it has no specific moral code. Atheists must make that up on their own. And people who don’t want to have a moral code can become atheists, so they are not controlled by rules. Karl Marx did that, he rejected religion, and he also rejected morality.

Your stories of evil, hypocritical Christians seems to be a different topic. Usually those stories are used to claim that Christians are immoral, but that’s illogical. One immoral Christian does not make Christianity immoral. It just means that Christians screw up a lot. And we have known that from the get-go. Abraham’s nephew, Lot, took his whole tribe to live in Sodom, not such a good idea. St Paul, who did a huge amount to build up the Christian church system, started out as a hit man, a serial assassin of Christians, paid to do it by worried Jewish leaders in Jerusalem. But St. Paul reformed, and was forgiven; this is not hidden in the Bible, it’s part of the story.

But for sure, your point is important, in showing us that we should never be arrogant, or claim to be perfect, or pretend that we are beyond doing evil. Buddhists call it “The sin of Pride”, and that’s about what I mean.

True, however many atheists have a strong ‘belief’ they are right, so I guess it all evens out. I’m an agnostic deist, which is a pretty hard row to hoe. As far as burden of proof, it is a double edged blade in and of itself. Applies to BOTH. Burden of proof does NOT rest on religion alone.
You believe or you don’t. You cannot prove either position. It becomes all about faith or the lack of it. I lack it, but want a higher power to exist somehow. This and the fact that our Republic has it’s foundations built on the Christian faith makes me an ally of Protestant Christians, although they tell me I am going to hell without faith and prayer, which just feels phony and sort of silly to me. At least they tell me that sometimes.
So…we have to make a choice…whether we admit it or not. (I’m about as close to not making it as anyone can get). To me, integrity trumps faith or ‘science’. If I can’t accept it down deep, I don’t give lip service to it.

I have nothing against The Religion of Atheism. I’ve read many of that religion’s books. I read most of Bertrand Russell’s works (showing my age).

It’s the Religion of Atheism’s evangelists that get under my skin. And, it’s so canned. The Religion of Atheism’s evangelist school’s must make rote memorization a requisite for graduation. “Sky daddy this and … my sky daddy can beat up your sky daddy …. and, of course the rote lines go on and on.

Nothing against the followers of The Religion of Atheism, but their evangelists need some serious work.

I have nothing against missionaries and evangelists. Hell, I invite Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons into my home. They’re always polite and willing to discuss differences. And, when their time is up, they leave with a handshake and a smile.

On the other hand, try going to practically any internet forum, when no one else has mentioned their religion …

The evangelists of The Religion of Atheism are squealing their beliefs to high heaven and insulting everyone else.

Yes, The Religion of Atheism IS a religion. Nothing against it … I just wish that they could keep their evangelists in line.

It is good enough to very easily replace my last work income, primarily thinking about I simply just work approximately 20 hrs per week at home. I have obviate my job after doing work for same corporation for several months, I required very reliable revenue. I was not looking for any make money programs that promises to make you rich in only few days that you find all over the internet. Probably the most exciting part of carrying out work on the web is that I’m always home with the kiddies and also spend a lot freetime along with my relatives on various amazing beaches of the attractive nations. Honestly,it is simpler than you would believe, all you have to do is fill out a simple form to receive front line access to the Home Profit System. BTW, Amy Barrette’s Supreme Court nomination is NOT about her being Catholic.
It is ALL their perceived view about her and TRUMP nominating her.

Notice with only TWO Jewish exceptions, our current Surpreme Court members are ALL Catholic! List below. Social liberals DO like her too. They like her communal world view. See the website for the group she belongs to – People of Praise. It’s unusual to say the least…. Communal living and sharing didn’t work out for the Pigrims.

How she could view refugees and immigration issues concerns me…

She maybe able to compartmentalize but this should be known about her too!

Pope turns down Pompeo meeting; Vatican warns US against politicizing China deal
By Ryan Morgan
9/30/20

The Vatican-China deal is a two-year-old agreement with Beijing that gives the pope some say over the appointment of Chinese bishops. It is set to expire next month but is likely to be renewed, according to Reuters.

Earlier on Wednesday, Pompeo gave a speech on religious freedom, wherein he noted “Nowhere is religious freedom under assault more than in China.”

Pompeo went on to say, “The Chinese Communist Party has battered every religious community in China: Protestant house churches, Tibetan Buddhists, Falun Gong devotees, and more. Nor, of course, have Catholics been spared this wave of repression: Catholic churches and shrines have been desecrated and destroyed. Catholic bishops like Augustine Cui Tai have been imprisoned, as have priests in Italy. And Catholic lay leaders in the human rights movement, not least in Hong Kong, have been arrested.”

Pompeo said that the ability of governments to defend religious freedom is sometimes constrained by world politics, but “The Church is in a different position. Earthly considerations shouldn’t discourage principled stances based on eternal truths and as history shows, Catholics have often deployed their principles in glorious, glorious service of human dignity.”

Pompeo, in a press conference later on Wednesday, denied a reporter’s characterization that, in his China criticism, he seemed to be “almost picking a fight with the Vatican over China.”

“Yeah, that’s just crazy,” Pompeo said.

Pompeo said his denouncement of China was in line with the Trump administration’s existing stance on China. Pompeo did say, “We want every institution to use its authority, its power to make the lives for what is the greatest human rights violation ongoing in the world – and we want every institution to use their power.”

Pompeo also said the Catholic Church has the “capacity to influence and make things better for people all across the world” and said “They have historically stood with oppressed peoples all around the world.”

How come this Pope NEVER condemns Jewish anti-Semitism?
Did I miss it?
It’s also a GLOBAL issue. It’s not as though Pope Frances is shy and doesn’t get involved in politics. When has he ever said anything NICE about President Trump?

I left Catholic church because of a Commie Pope. Every four years the Catholic church says the same thing and then commie catholics go vote for their local Democrat. SMH

This is a silly point. Democrats don’t even go to church (which isn’t likely open anyway these days because of Democrats) to NOT receive said communion; but I suspect they already knew that.

Beg your pardon…..here in the South, the Baptist Church is almost solid Democrats…..being self righteous on Sunday….and abortion supporters Monday-Saturday.
When I was a kid and our Mom and Dad couldn’t get us to our regular Christian Church….they would let us walk down the road to go to the Baptist Church. I had a wonderful Sunday school teacher. One day we showed up and found out she had been forced to leave because she was living with a man she wasn’t married to.
I was dumbfounded…it was around 1959…..so much for Brotherly Love and forgiveness. I never went back there and since then -politically – the Baptist are a great part of how we got Obummer and all these rioters.

I assume you misspell words to avoid being “monitored” or blocked?

Diskusted: Nope, it’s the same one. The one with “Thall Shall Not Kill” In ancient Hebrew the word kill is translated as “to kill by stealth”, that is, murder.

The Catholic church has it figured out, they drink real wine during communion right there in the church house.

Muslimes, on the other hand, don’t drink at all. That is why they are pissed off all the time, running around flying airplanes into the side of buildings and sh*t.

This presents why I am not a Catholic. If the Catholic church will not serve the sinful; it should serve nobody.
The attempt to rank sins is plebian at best, and at worst is replacing the judgment of God with the judgment of men of faith. It is a follow-on to the Hebraic judgement of which part of God’s creation He would accept as sacrifices and which parts of his creation offended Him. Relieving this cardinal of status of Prefect seems right to me.

You don’t understand Communion. By taking the Host one is agreeing that one agrees with all of the moral teachings of the Church. By disagreeing with the teachings about abortion, one is not agreeing with the Church, therefore, one disqualifies oneself from Communion by disagreeing with the Church on that subject.

The Pope is a Commie so probably not. Pelosi and Durbin are two more who profess their Catholic faith, but do not practice it!

So…

How many observant, thoughtful RC’s were also voting for the senile rapist?

I mean, seriously, how impactful can this possibly be? His running mate is, literally, a whore.

I have no doubt that many “cultural catholics” like MaligNancy Pelosi have rationalized voting for the Fingers, but the RC’s who would listen to a Cardinal?

Asymptotic to zero.

Francis – or “whatever” his real name is, is NOT A POPE. He is totally CONTRARY to to the TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH
His consorting with Communist China is the LAST STRAW! Proceedings to REMOVE THIS MAN from the papacy should be underway AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. BRING BACK THE REAL CATHOLIC CHURCH – APPOINT A REAL POPE!
