Trump Lays Out 6 Promises For America In His Second Term

By David Marcus, The Federalist, August 7, 2020:

On a trip to Ohio this week, President Trump laid out six priorities for his second term, aiming to restore the high-powered economy that his administration created only to see devastated by the Chinese coronavirus and ensuing lockdowns. Together, these promises show a laser focus on defeating the virus and creating jobs and opportunity for all Americans.

Story continues below advertisement

Trump has been criticized as of late by the corporate media for spending too much time attacking his opponent Joe Biden and not enough time outlining what his goals are for the next four years. This detailed plan should put such concerns to bed and serve as a foundation for his message in the final months of the election. Here are the six promises.

1. Defeat The Chinese Virus

This should come as no surprise. The Chinese coronavirus has become the central issue of the election. In addition to a sharp increase in testing over recent months and the development of treatments for virus victims, the president touted his administration’s effort to secure a vaccine by year-end. Once thought impossible, many experts now agree that Operation Warp Speed as the effort is known is on track to do just that.

In his remarks the president noted the virus should never have been allowed to leave China, but that under his leadership we are fighting it back, and that unlike earlier in the year, we now know “how to pinpoint it, and who to protect.” Ultimately containment of the virus is essential to the further plans he outlined. Each a plank in rebuilding the American economy.

2. Restore Our Country’s Prosperity

Trump’s promise to voters on this issue is that he did it before and he can do it again. The very Whirlpool plant that he was speaking at, he argued, was a testament to the success of the policies that created massive growth before the virus struck. Having replaced NAFTA, long a thorn in the side of Rust Belt states like Ohio, with a new trade agreement more fair to American workers, he assured the crowd that his earlier success would be replicated.

3. Turn America into the Drugstore of the World

An important piece of news floated under the radar last week as the Trump Administration invoked the Defense Production Act to provide loans for a major Kodak facility in upstate New York, where the manufacturer will convert to creating the ingredients for pharmaceuticals. The process is expedited by the similarities between drug and film chemical manufacturing.

As a result, domestic production of these ingredients will increase from 10 to 25 percent of our total need in the next five years. That isn’t just a jobs creator. It also creates medical security for the nation that has let its own lack of manufacturing make it dangerously dependent on countries like Communist China to provide life-saving drugs.

4. Onshore Manufacturing Jobs

Until Trump ran for president in 2016, Americans had spent almost 30 years being told by both parties that manufacturing jobs were gone for good and not coming back. Some kind of new high tech economy was promised, an early iteration of “learn to code.” Trump opposed the globalism of that neoliberal position and he said “On January 23, 2018 at my desk in the Oval Office, I signed an order to impose a 50 percent tariff on all foreign-made washing machines.” The workers watching understood just how important policies like that are to their industry and their jobs.

5. Bring Back Factory Jobs

Trump’s goal for a second term is not only to keep good paying American jobs here in America, but to attract even more factory jobs into communities that have suffered for years under former policies. As the trade deals fell, Trump argued the jobs came back. “We made extraordinary progress in reversing the dangerous tide of globalism. Over a period of four to five years this took place. Think of it, four to five years, what we have done is a miracle,” he remarked.

6. Put American Workers First

This final promise for his final term is really a summation of all the previous ones. After more than a generation of being ignored by administration after administration, Trump’s first term laid groundwork for American job growth that he says he can build on. If Trump can hammer home this message, especially in battleground states, then Joe Biden is going to have to escape the basement sooner rather than later to deliver his own message and explain why a return to the failed globalist policies of the past are going to work if he tries them again.

Excellent! Especially the pharmaceutical industry boost as that has long been needed. All we have to do now is hope(and pray, for those who do) that he receives the thanks he is deserved by being re-elected as the 2021 POTUS.

Democrats want to turn America into the drugstore of the world. But unlike Trump they want to do it with open borders so anyone can bring their product in.

Black Total Trump Approval = 36%: Rasmussen Reports
https://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/trump_administration/trump_approval_index_aug07
Job Approval of Trump, National Likely Voter poll for full month of July
Job Approval of Trump = 47%
GOP = 79%
Dems = 23%
Independents = 41%
White = 48%
Black = 36% [!]
Other Non-White = 51% [!]

These are huge numbers, especially for a Covid-19 President. Trump is doing as well or better than Obama was at the same point in his presidency. Many other countries see leader popularity slipping as Covid-19 grinds on. Black and Hispanic support is stunning.

DEMS want people addicted to ILLEGAL drugs that make them zombies, so they are easier to control. Life saving drugs like the “Trump” drug for the virus are banned by many liberals and other corrupt people. In the old days, there was always partisanship but never to this extreme. It’s shocking!

DOW jumps on good newscomment image
“The Dow Jones crossed 28,000 for the first time since February and the S&P 500 inched closer to a record high on Tuesday, following news that President Donald Trump was “very seriously” considering a capital gains tax cut… Stocks were also boosted by hopes for more stimulus after the White House signaled readiness to resume coronavirus aid talks with Democrats, while Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he was hoping a deal could be reached this week.”

Even if Trump DOES win, the whole thing is going to crash because we can’t sustain the national debt. We can’t even afford the interest on it. EVERYTHING will crash after the election – no matter who wins.

The government gets its money from the treasury after issuing an IOU to the Federal Reserve at 0% interest at the moment. According to the President all outstanding debt is also being remonitized at 0% interest.

There has never been any “free trade”, other than what neocons lie about.

Free trade means that there are no tariffs or limitations, all across the board. China imposes no tariffs. India imposes no tariffs. Viet Nam imposes no tariffs. The U.S. imposes no tariffs or limitations … The list goes on.

Then, of course, there’s a matter of taxation. Profits derived from a nation’s sales should be taxed at the same level as profits from domestically produced goods.

When that has been accomplished, wet dream that it is, you will have “free trade”. Anything less is simply one nation subsidizing another.

We wouldn’t be forced to buy American. At this time, it is almost impossible to not get things made in China, though. Is that better?

It is a national security issue that ALL our pharmaceuticals right on down to OTC stuff like aspirin, is made offshore. We found out the hard way even allies would not send what they also needed. and we certainly don’t want to be dependent on enemies for our entire supply of essential pharmaceuticals.

If you recall the “guns and butter” lesson from Freshman Economics, there are good reasons to support trade. If one nation can build butter better/cheaper than another, and the other can build guns better/cheaper, then the math is the math. Everyone wins through trade and specialization…

…in the teeny world that this example lives in.

The trouble is, “what if one nation can build both guns and butter better/cheaper than the other?” China and other such nations now have the ability, largely driven by a huge labor pool who are happy to make a fraction of what a US worker makes, because it’s still a huge step up, to do both.

Since economics has largely become weaponized, we really don’t talk to economists in any real way, anymore.

Is there a solution? Of course. We have to choose the balance between Strategic Goods and Open Goods. That’s easy to write, but not easy to do. We have to be aware that prices will go up. Without illegal aliens cleaning your house, the price of a cleaning service is going to go up. Ditto restaurant chefs in NYC. Your Avocado Toast just got a lot more pricey.

Is that worth it?

Often, yes.

But it’s not a simple A-B-C thing. It’s easy to campaign on these broad topics, but implementing them is a different story.

I have a LOT of issues with President Trump, but I do believe that he is the only candidate we’ve seen in a long time who can do a decent – not great – job with this. Fingers? Fingers is in it for himself, only. You’d see him outsource the whole country, if it could make him a buck.

Trump is the only choice in 2020.

Hey, I’m still waiting to see this terms promise to arrest the bad guys on the left. I see the Clinton’s and the Obama’s are still walking the streets, free as birds instead of jail birds.
And what about cleaning up the swamp?
Two things that I patiently waited for until this year. But seeing how this country has been allowed to be taken down and destroyed kinda makes me wonder what the truth really is or ever will be.
Oh I’ll vote for him again because I can’t vote for a devil following democrat.
I know God is the one who puts people in office but I can’t honestly say I see God’s hand even upon this party.
But that’s just the way one in their 80’s sees it – at this moment.
I really wanted to see some justice done regarding those crooked democrats and the corrupt South but seems a long time now since they’ve even been mentioned by our pres so I guess that’s a thing of the past promises…

I hope you can forgive me but my memory has grown short.
I can’t remember what they have called the swamp, only that it had to do with bad guys they said was in the southern states. I really thought everyone would realize that when they saw I’m in my 80’s.
I sure didn’t mean it as an insult.
Of course there are good and bad in both the north and the south. Just like there are good and bad in this world.
Sorry that I couldn’t and still don’t remember what the president or anyone else called them.
Offence not intended especially since I have an extended family that ‘lives’ in the south…

One thing he should prioritise is to stop the inflow of illegal drugs into USA and the corresponding outflow of billions of $US in profits from those drugs which only benefits the criminal organisations not for the benefit of the citizens of the destination states The Gangs of Mexico have branches in US major centres and as well as drugs, they profit from people smuggling and slavery, prostitution and worst of all support for terrorists enemies of USA.
This is not to mention the thousands of addicts who are wasting their lives just to buy drugs and are unproductive for the US economy. Fund the police and the various agencies!

An extremely important area to bring back is electronics manufacturing, especially in the area of military equipment for communications, radar, jamming, etc. It went out the door during Carter’s term and now the Chinese have been able to monkey with them by putting so-called back doors in the chips for spying.
