Ratings Crash for NBA, MLB After Protest-Filled Debuts

Story continues below advertisementAs the NBA and MLB return from their coronavirus-imposed hiatus, it appears TV viewers are not interested in what the increasingly woke leagues have to offer.
With both baseball and basketball draped in all sorts of Black Lives Matter and social justice symbolism for their opening games, a substantially smaller number of fans tuned-in to the rest of the week’s games.
According to Outkick.com, neither league did well.
As for the opening games, Outkick reported that the return of the NBA on TNT saw the following numbers:
Lakers-Clippers: 3.4 million
Pelicans-Jazz: 2.1 millionESPN’s MLB return numbers were also underwhelming:
Yankees-Nationals: 4.0 million
Dodgers-Giants: 2.8 millionOutkick’s Ryan Glasspiegel added more ratings numbers on Twitter.
“To be fair since I compared MLB vs NBA return night 1, here is night 2,” (July 24) he wrote, adding:
MLB (last Friday, ESPN)
Mets-Braves (4p) – 922K
Brewers-Cubs(7p) – 1.0M
Angels-As (10p) – 797KNBA (last night ESPN) (July 31)

For good measure, Strauss also pointed out that baseball can’t blame the coronavirus. The virus didn’t stop people from watching Tom Brady golf with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson back in May.

Dubbed “The Match II,” the game featuring Tom Brady, Phil Mickelson, Peyton Manning, and Tiger Woods peaked at an amazing 6.3 million viewers and raised more than $20 million for charity.

Great news about the NBA boycott! This means that conservatives are voting against tyrants. In years past, much talk circulated about the “Silent Majority”, who said and did little politically, even in voting. This new mail ballot to the voter will definitely impact the results if it goes forward. Then nanny state removing the choice of the citizen whether they want to vote or not. They just use (OUTDATED) local voter registration list at the city and town halls and mail them out to God only knows. It was passed here recently in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts.

The NBA on ESPN ads on cable channels said things like ‘watch the game for the social justice and sport’.

If you are paying for cable or streaming major league sports, they still make money off of you even if you don’t watch.
If you want to really hit them in the pocketbook, you cancel the sports portion of your streaming service. Just not watching doesn’t hurt them much, it just makes you feel better.

You can get past episodes of ID on HULU via ROKU. In fact, I think ROKU has an ID channel. I used to love that channel, but dropped cable because I was paying for tons of things I did not watch. Now, we have OTA and ROKU streaming and I DO NOT MISS CABLE AT ALL. DO NOT GET NETFLIX. The Obamas and Susan Rice run that now.

NOW, they will ruin everything else like a 10.0 hurricane. They have already begun to destroy good shows on TV, which I stopped watching because almost every single one of them has some sort of homosexual star in it that shoves their lifestyle in your face. I haven’t had TV for several years and I don’t miss it much. I am moving back to the farm and I might put up an antenna to get free, local stations but I won’t pay for any other channels. Nearly all the programs are trash and insult your intelligence. In this state people still have some sense, although the big cities are getting bad. A young man recently moved here from Omaha and he said how much he liked it here. I said he probably didn’t make as much money but life was better. Surprisingly enough, he said he actually made a little more and it costs less to live here too.

What do they expect? They are allowing those players who truly despise their country – the country which has provided them with their wealth and status – to publicly exalt their bile. Which puts pressure on other players to keep faith with their team mates and follow suit whether they want to or not. Hopefully, at the end of this road lies major financial difficulty. Which the players can afford to shrug their shoulders at because most of them have already got a considerable financial comfort blanket out of the game. For the owners it is likely to provide a somewhat more painful experience.

I used to make the false assumption that many young people today were mind wipes because of bad parenting. No doubt that is sometimes true from the Left. But in general political conversation I have heard quite a few decent, average, traditional minded Americans express frustration that they had worked to instill what is good and sensible into their kids, and “lost” them in school; especially college. They sacrificed and paid to educate their children and were paid back with their children instilling the warped worldview of the Secular Humanists into the new generation. It is sad for people to be cut off from giving wisdom to their own grandchildren.

Well….the players on the field make a ton of money for their “owners”….Then agents got involved and threatens the owners with the loss of the player if they don’t pay what they want.
The leaked amount they are paid makes them look more valuable to the fans….and then fans buy more tickets…..
The players then act like movie stars and believe their own hype….which in turn makes them ask for more money because their “fans” won’t like if they quit…..it’s a constant “round robin”.

Perhaps the extreme decline in audience is a direct result of mixing political displays with professional sports. I know that I am seriously offended by the disrespect shown to the National Anthem and the Flag of the United States. Political grandstanding at the expense of revered American symbols is a sure way to alienate your audience.

It is more about the League’s front office, the owners and how they jumped into bed with Xi Ping and the CCP. It is money pure and simple. Bottom line, more money coming in from the PRC than here apparently so the Cuban’s of the league are like a piece of iron being pulled in by the bigger magnet China. I can’t sit too long and watch much of anything on television. I have watched much less since Adolph Baker cracked down and completely put the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts at financial and psychological risk on March 18th. TV is way to passive an entertainment for me. Being at the venue is the only way.
