Broad solidarity

The attack on roses had caused consternation not only in Graz. From Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen downwards, representatives from politics and civil society expressed their solidarity. On Saturday night around 30 people took part in a vigil at the synagogue.

On Sunday evening around 200 women and men came together for a solidarity rally – including numerous regional and local politicians. People marched from Graz main train station to the synagogue and sang: “Shoulder to shoulder against racism”. Again, Puder does Austria justice in the first paragraph but I take exception with his parroting modern leftist historical claims about anti-communist, pre-WWII Austria being so overwhelmingly pro-Nazi! Also, while I agree that there is a problem with general lack of historical knowledge and appreciation both in Europe and throughout the world for the Holocaust and the need for more universal Holocaust education in history in Europe and really worldwide but singling out Austria is a little unfair too!
What gets me about Puder’s article is that he never mentions the efforts of the rightists and Monarchists especially in Austria to successfully stop Hitler’s efforts to amalgamate Austria which he didn’t respect actually as a unique Germanic, tribal Nation-State and culture with Germany! There is plenty of historical evidence that while the Austrian Nazi Party largely thanks to direct German government support and its ability to buy supporters was the largest SINGLE political Party right before the forced Nazi union with Germany that took German troops to enforce, it had only 46-48% of the population, largely in northern Austria!
We are dealing with overlooking martyrs here as Austria’s dynamic, strong Chancellor Englebert Dolfuss became a martyr in 1934 when he was assassinated by the Nazis because the Nazis realized the union would not happen while he lived! Also no mention of his successor, Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg who demanded a democratically run referendum on the union and was later sent to concentration camps for not going along with it when the Nazis rejected the referendum until after occupation by German troops as they knew they could only get 45-48% of the direct vote UNDER FAIR, DEMOCRATIC CONDITIONS like the USA’s far leftist democrats! The support for the Nazis dissipated the farther south one went toward Italy in Austria is a valid point too! This antipathy for the Nazis by Austrian monarchists is shown in the famous musical, “The Sound of Music” as it was fairly well known into the mid-1960s!
The reality is that Hitler could have been stopped then and the conditions for a decent military revolt against him created led by Leipzig Mayor Carl F. Goerdeler whose conservatives and monarchists would later try to unsuccessfully kill Hitler and overthrow the Nazis on July 20, 1944 so Goerdeler became a martyr himself after torture! The lack of support for Austria by France and wavering British PM Neville Chamberlain is what led Mussolini to align with Hitler creating the Axis alliance actually!
This leads to another point that is relevant about Austria. The globalist, democ-RAT U.S. President Woodrow Wilson insisted on the abolition of the Austro-Hungarian Kingdom so set the stage for Hitler’s initial success represented in the occupation of Austria by Germany in 1938 as well as WWII and all that followed in Europe afterwards! Had Austria and Hungary stayed united not only would there have been much less support for union with Nazi Germany but the ability of the joint Austrian-Magyar/Hungarian Kingdom united under the Hapsburg monarchy to resist German Nazi aggression would have been stronger!
