Liberal Columnists Praise Trump’s Mideast Deal: ‘Huge Achievement’

Anti-Trump foreign policy pundits set aside partisanship and politics to praise the president’s new peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which was announced in the White House on Thursday morning.

Story continues below advertisement

By: Breitbart News, August 16, 2020:

Tom Friedman of the New York Times called the agreement a “geopolitical earthquake,” noting that it opened the door to future peace agreements and further isolated the Iranian regime, which had been waging terrorist wars across the region:

For once, I am going to agree with President Trump in his use of his favorite adjective: “huge.”

The agreement brokered by the Trump administration for the United Arab Emirates to establish full normalization of relations with Israel, in return for the Jewish state forgoing, for now, any annexation of the West Bank, was exactly what Trump said it was in his tweet: a “HUGE breakthrough.”

It was Trump’s peace plan drawn up by Jared Kushner, and their willingness to stick with it, that actually created the raw material for this breakthrough.

The U.A.E. and Israel and the U.S. on Thursday showed — at least for one brief shining moment — that the past does not always have to bury the future, that the haters and dividers don’t always have to win.

David Ignatius of the Washington Post — who once published information that led to former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn being fired and prosecuted — was similarly effusive, noting that Trump’s peace plan had notched a big win:

For once, Trump didn’t need to manufacture any superlatives. This was, as he tweeted, a “HUGE” achievement.

[Jared] Kushner didn’t specify what Arab countries might be next. But State Department officials said likely prospects include Oman, Bahrain and Morocco. For now, officials say, Saudi Arabia will resist formal recognition of Israel.

Kushner’s peace plan, when it was finally announced, seemed stillborn. But Kushner argued that if he could peel off several countries that were ready to make a pragmatic deal, the process of Arab normalization with Israel — a dream since the Jewish state was founded — might finally get some traction.

Trump’s surprise announcement might be an “August surprise” in the presidential campaign. But it’s welcome news for Israel, the Arabs and the United States.

In Israel, the left-wing Ha’aretz also praised the deal, despite its none-too-hidden contempt for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:

A generation of Western diplomats who thought that Israel needs to pay in hard currency for any such breakthrough with the Arab world were tearing their hair out last night. During the Oslo years, they tried so hard to get such a statement from one of the major Arab nations in return for Israel’s compromises with the Palestinians. Now Netanyahu has got it for nothing. In 2018 the Saudis for the first time allowed overflights of its territory to Israel, and now the Emiratis are talking about direct flights from Tel Aviv to Dubai.

Even former Vice President Joe Biden, Trump’s Democratic opponent in November, praised the deal — and tried to take some credit for it.

Disgusting: Iran is caught paying Taliban to attack US Troops, and the Democrats and MSM ignore it. They went nuts when Russia was accused of doing this, but if Iran does it, it’s OK.

Tehran’s “support to some elements of the Taliban has threatened to undermine the peace process in Afghanistan,” one State Dept. official said.

This a big deal, because Iran already has enough highly enriched uranium to make at least one bomb. And they have the tech needed to make a simple one. With no sanctions, they can buy a fast jet [E.g.,Sukhoi Su-30 SM ] from Russia that can deliver the nuke to Israel [or Europe]. They are also close to having a workable ICBM, and a small enough nuke to fit in the nose. Previously captured Iranian documents say they want to have at least 6 nukes on missiles before they go public with them. But they could try a lucky shot on Israel at any time.

Lets assume the scenario you’ve described is correct. If Iran actually carried out a nuclear attack on Israel, the response from Israel and the US would be overwhelming nuclear annihilation of Iran. Millions would die and a land area way beyond Iran would be contaminated with radiation.

Iran wants nuclear weapons because it gives them security protections that only members of the nuclear club enjoy, They are maniacally envious of Israels’s exclusive nuclear club membership. It’s the national equivalent of being a made guy in the mob. It means you can’t mess with them. The other benefit to Iran that comes from nuclear club membership is, like North Korea, the ability to extort concessions from the West.

Nuclear weapons possess the greatest value to a nation until they decide to use them. Once they cross the “Hiroshima” line, nuclear weapons become a countries greatest liability.

You’re assuming the mullahcracy thinks like you do. I once asked Robert Spencer if he thought Iran’s repeated threats against Israel were just mere saber rattling. He disagreed as the twelvers believe sowing chaos will hasten the appearance of the mahdi down the well. A$$minijihad, the former president of Iran, had a highway built linking Tehran directly w/the village in which the Madhi’s well is thought to be located.

Obviously, Israel and the US have a vested interest in stopping Iran from joining the club. My point about what Iran desires has nothing to do with my personal view. I was summarizing a widely held assessment based upon the behavior of every country that already has nuclear weapons including Pakistan and rogue North Korea.
For what its worth, I have had extensive conversations about Iran with an Iranian who lived there until the late 80s, grew up in a secular family in Tehran, experienced the Revolution as a teenager, worked for state-run newspaper until he fled, and survived a mortar shell attack (that required surgery) as a reporter covering the Iran-Iraq war. This guy had insights and access that even members of Congress and CIA could not possibly have. His stories blew my mind.
He impressed upon me that the mullahs hatred of Israel was rooted in envy over its membership in the nuclear club. As long as Iran was on the outside looking in, the West could attack Iran directly or via proxy at its whim. There is some truth to this. The US supported Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war.
The bottom line is countries that have nuclear weapons are less likely to be attacked by other states. After 9/11, Pakistan was out of control and a haven for terrorists. The US had no reservations about running a full scale war in Iraq and Afghanistan but we didn’t dare set foot in Pakistan. The difference was Pakistan is member of the nuclear club. It changes the rules of engagement. Iran wants that level of protection.

India went to war with Pakistain. I hope they do again to prevent happening to the Punjab what the f’ing muslums did in Kashmir and Bangladesh.
When India went to war with Pakistain, the US backed the f’ing Paki muslum vermin over India.

When one does it, other gulf states will follow. They still believe in borders and a sovereign country. They want intelligence sharing because they too fear Iran and normalizing relations helps in other ways too. They put their country first and pssst, they may grumble now and then about fake Palestine but they really don’t care about Palestine. Self preservation is more important.

When Trump formally acknowledged Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, did Saudi Arabia care? How about other gulf states? WW3 didn’t happen either. The ones that didn’t like it and spoke out like Iran and Turkey didn’t follow through on their threats. Their talk didn’t match their walk – Taqiya. If they had the ability they would have acted on it but they don’t have that ability yet so it’s just threats. The EU is well trained to cower and submit.

After all these years of hearing that Islam “can never be reformed” are there be some moderate Muslims, not dedicating their lives to jihad and Islamic supremacism, after all? Wow.

How concerned should we be that Israel is opening itself to espionage and saboteurs? I’m sure that Israel has already factored that into the deal.

These are the same Leftists Media Wackos that lauded their lord and savior Obama for the Iran Nuclear Deal, and that warned of grave consequences after Trumped moved the US embassy to Jerusalem. Tom Friedman’s lipstick is still visible on Obama’s a** but the nuclear deal is dead and buried.

Leftists are wrong about EVERYTHING. All their support for the UAE Israel treaty proves is that a broken clock is correct twice a day.

Kushner urges Saudi to normalise ties with Israel

Issued on: 17/08/2020

US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and White House advisor Jared Kushner said Monday it would be in Saudi Arabia’s interest to normalise ties with Israel as the United Arab Emirates has agreed to do.

It would also weaken their common foe Iran’s influence in the region and ultimately help the Palestinians, Kushner told reporters during a telephone briefing.

It is like the Romans and Reagan said, “Peace Through Strength.” It is Israel’s development as among the biggest innovators and a true PowerHouse in every area of the economy and sciences, and Trump’s “The Art of The Deal.” A killer’s combination.

I think that the only thing “huge” about Trump’s Middle East deal is that it is a huge example of dangerous wishful thinking and disregard for the facts.
The facts are:
1.) The UAE is a Muslim majority country; as of 2009, it was 76.2% Muslim and by now, that percentage is sure to have greatly increased.
2.) The Muslims refer to Israel as “the little Satan” and to our country as “the Great Satan”.
3.) The Muslims are notorious for hating the Jews.
4.) The Musims are also notorious for being consummate actors, masters of deceit and prevarication, and for violating treaties they make with non- Muslims, especially with the Jews.
When the Muslims sign on to an agreement that favors them AND anyone else, the non-Muslims who made that agreement should be very worried and watch them like a hawk.
Trump likes to crow about what a master deal maker he is and is using this deal to feed his already over weight ego at the expense of those who will suffer when his willful blindness to the facts causes the calamity that it almost certainly will.
Remember, the Muslims are allowed to do anything, even things that are strictly forbidden in the Koran, as long as the eventual end result is that it benefits Islam and its spread.
