WATCH: New York Police Union Boss Gives Impassioned Speech: ‘Legislators Abandoned Us, The Press Is Vilifying Us’

The law enforcement officers at the NYPD are being unjustly vilified by the MSM, and they work for a corrupt and pro-criminal mayor. Yet they put their lives on the line every day to protect the people of New York City. In fact, there are not many people in America who have a more difficult and thankless job than the law enforcement officers at the NYPD. All good Americans should support them wholeheartedly.

WATCH: New York Police Union Boss Gives Impassioned Speech: ‘Legislators Abandoned Us, The Press Is Vilifying Us’

Story continues below advertisement

By Daily Wire, June 9, 2020

In an impassioned speech on Tuesday, Mike O’Meara, president of the New York Police Benevolent Association, ripped politicians and the press who have vilified police officers as thugs and criminals over the past two weeks.

Holding up a police badge, O’Meara said that the actions of police in Minneapolis should not be a stain on the badges of other police officers.

“This isn’t stained by someone in Minneapolis. It still has a shine on it. And so do theirs. So do theirs,” O’Meara said as he gestured to the scores of police officers standing behind him.

O’Meara then pleaded with Americans to stop treating police officers “like animals and thugs,” demanding that cops be treated with some respect.

“Stop treating us like animals and thugs,” he said. “And start treating us with some respect. That’s what we’re here today to say. We’ve been left out of the conversation. We’ve been vilified. It’s disgusting.  It’s disgusting. Trying to make us embarrassed of our profession.”

O’Meara then stated that the vast majority of interactions with police are overwhelmingly positive and called to mind the police officers, many of whom were black men, that were killed in the riots.

“375 million interactions, overwhelmingly, overwhelmingly positive. Nobody talks about all the police officers that were killed in the last week in the United States of America, and there were a number of them,” said O’Meara.

O’Meara concluded by condemning the actions of Officer Derek Chauvin of Minneapolis and noted that he, O’Meara, is still proud to be a cop.

“We don’t condone Minneapolis. We reject what he did as disgusting,” concluded O’Meara. “It’s disgusting. It’s not what we do. It’s not what police officers do. Our legislators abandon us. The press is vilifying us. Well, you know what guys, I’m proud to be a cop and I’m going to continue to be proud to be a cop until the day I retire.”

this union boss ain’t too bright. what do the ny state legislature and the press have in common? they’re both controlled by democrats. the problem that his members face is that the party they have been funding for generations, the democrats, hate them because most cops are white

You have NO IDEA what you are talking about!

Most of the NYPD members do NOT live in NYC and most are NOT “funding Democrats” as you foolishly state.

I know personally more than 100 active NYPD officers and several hundred retired officers and NOT ONE is a Democrat!

In fact they despise them.

So does FDNY, from which I’ve been retired since June 1990. We HATE Democrats!

And by the way, no one I know in FDNY has EVER “funded” a Democrat either!

And incidentally, the first word of a sentence is capitalized, as is the word “Democrats,” and the end of a sentence gets a period.

Maybe that explains the content of your post.

calm down hoss, and thanks for your service. first, i didn’t say the cops and firemen voted democrat, but i find it impossible to believe that their union dues didn’t go to fund democrats in nyc for the last 60 years. second, with regard to my writing style, i’m a fan of ee cummings. third, i don’t capitalize “democrat” for the same reason i don’t capitalize “scum”

I don’t know about that. In this area, many of the suburbs have a twenty year “walkaway”, wherein the firewomen receive FULL salary as their pension. Moreover, the unions have negotiated a two day workweek. Then, to add insult to injury, they’re paid eight hours of overtime, in that whether they’re eating or sleeping .. the full twenty-four hours are considered “work time” … 2 x 24 = 48. Ergo, forty hours full pay, eight hours at time and one half.

Pretty slick, if you’re a firewoman, that is. Not very slick if you’re a taxpayer.

Yes. In the fantasy land that is CA, there have been several firefighters from several cities and counties that have routinely received $200k++ yearly salaries. This says nothing about some of their ‘generous’ pensions that have, in some cases, hit nearly $1M.

Oh yes. Much credit for that. But, you’ll really have to play it up, i.e., be perpetually angry (to the point of fighting), be offended at even a ‘hello’ from a white person and be able to justify, in a long-winded, albeit illogical way, how right you are for burning down businesses.

I’m a bit rusty but, I’ll do my best. Now, when you get the script, always carry it around with you while in lala land. That way, if you encounter any ‘trouble’ you can just show it and say, you’re getting into character for a role. And in lala land, no one will question you.????

You might have to develop an affinity for them. You know, to blend in. And don’t forget to bring your checkbook for your Scientology classes at around $20-50k per course. You won’t learn a thing, of course but, you’ll feel a lot better knowing your hard earned money is helping to maintain the extravagant lifestyles of church ‘leaders.’

That was excellent.

It is WRONG to broad brush ALL police and correction officers as some evil enemy. Single out the bad ones and only punish them. Of course by now you should realize it’s really not about George Floyd. The radical organizers are trying to promote a new police force comprised of BLM and ANTIFA people to punish YOU if you are not in agreement with their positions and SUBMIT. They are trying to pick up steam for a revolution using Floyd’s death to promote it.

If you think that Wikipedia is bad then try RationalWiki. Do not believe a word that they say.
I just edited (see “deleted”) one of their nonsense pages on someone(now deceased) who dared to disagree with their little POV a nasty little character assassination attempt.
A classical woke Leftist bull effluent site poisoning the internet with their communist hate venom but pretending to be “scientific”. I almost choked on the nerve.

Felix: Yeah Trump only tweets stuff that is true. His tweets make very few factual mistakes. There has been data accumulating on this for months now. It works a bit like plant seeds. When planted, we don’t see it until it breaks out of the soil, and that’s like Covid-19 popping up in December. Lots of people were sick by then, but docs didn’t notice because they ‘just had the flu’…But this now proves that the ChiComs could have stopped Covid-19 in Wuhan. It came from a lab, and one Wuhan lab was right beside a suddenly busy hospital. The lab and medicos knew something was up, patients were abundant in December, and person-to-person infection was already evident. Therefore, China should have acted on Jan 1, alerted WHO, and CDC, and shut down all travel. But they didn’t, on purpose.

While it’s true that police in America and the UK are getting some stick recently, it’s always going to aid the search for clarity and therefore a better understanding of issues if two distinctions can be made.

The first distinction is where is the criticism coming from, drug gangs targeted for their activities, left wing political elites with agendas, compromised news media biased towards the breakdown of society or criminal immigrants.

The second distinction has to be was the officer polite in the performance of his duties, not confrontational, not making vexatious excuses linked to the lefts PC agenda of showing some groups partial standards . Did he or she show discression or humour, tolerance for a natural greivance to be aired and proportional firmness when the time came for further measures.

Over many years I’ve witnessed disproportional police violence which was definatly counter productive to their prospects and image. Some examples include an officer and grown man beating with his fists in uncontrolled rage an unarmed teenage boy on the ground who was unable to resist or defend himself.

More examples involved an officer grabbing the arm of a middle aged woman, swinging her around and out of the road so she fell striking her head which resulted in a stroke. Her friend had also been punched on her chest after a mastectomy. That lady was in her seventies. Another case involved police “touching up” some teenage girls under arrest while they were out of sight in a police van. Another case involved a man in a wheel chair “airing his views” before being pulled from it and over a barrier before five officers knelt on his back and forced him face down in a gutter while handcuffing him.

Every one of those examples involved UK police acting against the highest standards while sheltering behind the possession of a warrant card.

As in America, the best officers do not do such things, their personal standards forbid it and it’s people like that the political elite and law abiding public rely upon for two things, the enforcement of civilised standards and serious help with personal safety when it’s needed.

With politicians targeting police they rely on, one day maybe those people will not be there to call upon, then the elite can look in the mirror for who is to blame.

Good for O’Meara and the personnel at NYPD.

The media and political hacks are fomenting a statistical lie. Example: millions of aircraft take off and land safely at O’Hare airport every year without mention. But let a single engine Cessna spin in with no injuries or deaths and it gets plastered all over the place.

Seems like the best response to this is not to jump on the bandwagon to vilify police (Unions) but to now point out to them that they should be supporting law and order Republicans rather than socialist democrats. Come on men and women of law enforcement, come over to the guys with the White/Red hats and drop the black hats. This is your true home.

Let’s also remember the Proud Boys who were arrested and sentenced to prison simply for defending themselves. What about the rabbis arrested for holding services, the closing of the churches. I’m afraid the NYPD needs to explain whose side they are on.
