Truck Drivers Say They Won’t Deliver To Cities with Defunded Police Departments

As cities across the country are discussing defunding or disbanding their police departments, truck drivers are voicing concerns of safety. Seventy-seven percent of truck drivers say they will refuse to deliver freight to cities with defunded police departments.
Story continues below advertisementTruck driving is historically ranked as one of the most dangerous jobs in the country. In 2018, U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistic reported truck driving as the most deadly job in the country.
Truck drivers have spent the last year on the front line of a global pandemic and protests. Now many are fearful of what might happen if police departs disband or are defunded.
Truck drives have been voicing their concerns on the CDLLife App. After reading about their concerns, CDLLife posted a poll on the app.
We asked drivers on the app, “Would you pick up/deliver to cities with defunded or disbanded police departments? Why or why not?”
To date, 77% of drivers say they will refuse loads to cities with disbanded or defunded police departments.
Here are some of their responses:

“This is not an area you need to act fearless and think you you’d look like a fool for saying no…Imagine what kind of fool you look like for driving into a hot spot and putting your life in danger.”
“I will not deliver to an area with a disbanded police department. My life matter and I do this for my family. We are already at the mercy of these towns and cities with laws and hate against us for parking, getting a meal or even using a restroom.”

By all means I would think the first donation should have come from Black Lives Matter, since it appears it was all arranged by them.
Again, such a shame but other blacks have also lost everything or just about and one retired police chief and many other blacks were killed too by rioters too. Seems they don’t care the color, they just kill for the enjoyment of it…

You’re correct.
As for that faith they have, is it any wonder? They make a demand and some dem bows to their wishes, so they demand more. As long as a stray dog is fed, it is sure to return the next time it gets hungry. Is there really any difference between the two? The more they get, the more they want but it was like that back in the 60’s and probably before, had I been paying attention then.
It’s a live and learn world we live in. Only problem is stupid never seems to learn even. Maybe not so stupid as they all seem to want to take our country down anyway they can.

That’s how stagecoaches did it. They had a a passenger who sat up top, and he held the shotgun and other weaponry, to be used if needed. Charge an extra $50,000 for delivery to cover messenger, insurance and ammunition. No cops to protect you, but no cops to arrest you either.

A shotgun messenger isn’t good enough for todays highways.
You would need to convoy two trucks with at least three escort vehicles, Bradleys for preference. For each additional truck you need to add 1.5 escorts, always rounded up if its a decimal.

Actually i live in Northern CA. CA laws are nuts and the dope growers and manufactures have moved in. Still many good people around, but they are leaving to go to the few sane states. Despite this we all have guns and any riot would be short lived as would be the rioters. We have to all join together and stop the insanity or it will all become a nut house.

Almost magic words, a sane states, that is if they can still be found. United is the only way. However don’t go after them but let them come to us or we’d be considered the guilty party. Heck chances are we’d still be accused. There was a time, back where there were still real laws for citizens that you could shoot a person that was trying to break into your house. Nowadays they can have made it into your house in the middle of the night and if you shoot them then, chances are you will find yourself taken in for questioned. But I haven’t heard of one that was jailed, so far. Give them time and the laws will be completely for the criminal as it doesn’t have very far to go. Where I’m looking from, it’s already pretty much a nut house. These people seem upside-down and backwards. I don’t think the roaring 20’s was as bad as these guys make it today. Difference is back then it was the good guy against the evil ones, like Eliot Ness and Al Capone. Now it’s the evil guys against the good ones. No rhyme or reason except to steal, hurt, kill, and destroy. When a black takes a 2 x 4 to an old white woman and man because they are at their store and the black wants to loot it, shows a lot of evil in their hearts. They seem more like Muslim with their lust for blood. The devil has them firmly hooked. He only has to keep them hooked until they are killed and then their souls are all his. Sad but true. I saw the breaking at least 5 of the 10 Commandments. Yet they will say the are Christian. They wouldn’t know the Lord if they fell over Him! God forbid.

Truck drivers are prohibited by law from carrying arms for their own protection… I don’t blame them for refusing loads to these cesspools. Likewise, they should also avoid being routed near or thru those same places. Let the shippers, product owners and ultimately to consumer pay the increased cost for the transportation of goods… it’s only fair given that so many support the leftist-global-socialists that have caused the problems.

I was stunned that you claimed what you did.
There are no national laws that prohibits truck drivers from carrying firearms, and drivers can apply for a permit within their state. However, truckers who move across state lines must comply with tougher state and local laws. To make matters more complicated, some state permits are honored across state lines while others are not. For example, a Missouri firearm permit is valid in neighboring Iowa, but not in Illinois.
But if you can produce the Statute or US Code I’d love to see it.

I may be incorrect as I took the conversations I’ve had with family members who drive OTR and this is what they related… since I don’t drive for living I haven’t researched it, perhaps I should have. Though even if allowed and the company doesn’t prohibit it, the myriad of state and local laws that one would have to comply with on a daily basis would be a huge hassle to day the least.

As a retired Commercial Driver I’d be interested in seeing the citation ofr what law you are refering to and when it went into effect.
Some companies have no firearms policies but those don’t apply to any owner operators unless they have leased their truck to a company with such a policy.
I’d not want to be the one playing “You Bet Your Life” on the assumption that there are such laws. And there are many deadly items easily accessible to a truck driver that are not only legal but actually tools of the trade.

You better believe we are! Well at least around my area and around any military base. Here I am in my 80’s (a gentle soul I be) and when we in the suburbs of DC heard that remark, well if the windows were open you could hear the clicking of guns being checked for the ready. Who me? Yeah, three and a hand gun all ready to go. And all learned to shoot as a kid in the southern mountains of WV but heck, I raised my suburban kids (baby’s 55) as I was and they now have their own collection, make their own shells and their favorite weekend pastime is going to a firing range. Speaking as a forcibly retired tanker driver, thanks to a Drunk Driver, no freight is worth the risk involved in going into an area where the police won’t be there to have your back, AT ALL.
It’s risky enough out there even with the police on duty. Defund the police and it won’t take very long for the Hijacking Crews to figure out where the High Value Freight is and that it’s open season with no need to hoist the Jolly Roger.
And in today’s markets, a load of diapers can be a high value cargo.
Tanker full of gasoline or diesel. Some mouth breather will try to light it up just to watch it go boom and burn down the neighborhood.
I’ve been an involuntary participant in a Hells Angels initiation ride and that was a white knuckle night even with the Highway Patrol on duty. My constant fear was one of the probies would cut it too close on cutting in front of my rig and I’d be responsible for 1%er road kill with a whole pack of jacked up on who knows what 1%ers trying to wreck my rig [and then murder me] as a consequence.

…that goes for business people and vacationers also….I’ve already put the TN Governor, the Nashville Mayor, and the Chamber of Commerce on notice that I and my family’s planned summer vacation and reunion has already been cancelled due to them wanting to defund the police.
And I am just one of hundreds of thousands who will not go there….but didn’t bother to call the officials and warn them what is coming down. Who takes their family – with children and elderly – to a place where they risk losing their lives or getting injured with lifelong disabilities?

Whereas we have a nation that was slowly going insane, truckers for the most part are common sense, no nonsense people. You have to have good judgment to be a trucker. So why would we go into lawless areas with no law enforcement and insane people come right out onto the highway to try to shut you down? You would be forced to run them down to not be mobbed. It’s a no-win. Democrat Mayors should be arrested and tried for mob incitement and negligence.

Yes, I’m not promoting violence, I was raised pacifist here on the east side actually, although I raised a marine son. I’m just trying to shock some common sense back into some of these “riff raff.” Surely they must know that the chaos will end with or without the police. If governors won’t deploy the national guard the federal will. If they don’t, you will see citizens taking the law into their own hands and that’s not good. The left has blood on their hands because they play the race card every election cycle. I personally hope that Trump does not become involved as it will be used against him but the total failure of the democrat governors to make any attempt to improve things is proof that they are not interesting in enforcing the law so they must be made to do so or removed. It is scandalous to have mobs chasing running police.
In almost ANY nonwestern city such a mob would have been very harshly treated and law and order restored.

Draconian punishments will return as there is not choice. I do not like it as it could well be applied to me and my family but it will happen. Up to 1950 all over the west thousands would have been “removed” by being shot on sight as looters or arsonists and gaoled as rioters if they had behaved like this then. I haven’t purchased anything from Amazon in over two years. Unless you must have one of their branded products, everything else found on their site can be found elsewhere, sometimes at a lower price.
Walmart.com offers FREE shipping on all orders of $35 or more. Their tracking and updates are superior to Amazon, and anything ordered through Walmart.com (even third party products) can be returned to any Walmart store, no questions asked. Amazon simply cannot compete with that level of seamlessness.
Finally, it’s not in any consumers best interest to give all their business to one company. It destroys competition and less competition equals higher prices. Walmart is so big, they alone act as a bulwark against Amazon. If they did not exist, prices on Amazon would be even higher.
Out of curiosity, I check prices on Amazon for some items I purchase on Walmart or other eccomerce sites. Amazon rarely beats the total delivered price and its often higher.
Amazon exploits the apathy of the buyer. More and more people don’t shop and compare anymore. They just order from Amazon. They shop the way Leftists vote. Not good.

Not only the truck drivers…..I’ve already called the Governor of TN office and told them that my family reunion was going to be in Nashville…..because of the moronic leadership…..we have already cancelled our trips…what would have meant about $4-5 thousand dollars to their economy.
I state that I and my family would not go anywhere we did not feel safe….and that safety means LAW ENFORCEMENT
I then called the Mayor of Nashville’s office and left the same message.
Both of these only allow you to leave a voice mail.
I then contacted the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce. A woman answered. I gave her my name and the same message. She nervously replied that this had “not been decided yet”….to defund the police there. I said fine…then let this be a cautionary tale for the state of TN and the city of Nashville.
And I daresay there is going to be a taxpayer revolt soon…..we paid for it (TAXES)….they broke it (SPINELESS)….they must fix it (DO THE RIGHT THING)….or WE WILL AT ELECTION TIME!
All of that took only 20 minutes of my time…looking up the phone numbers…making the calls.
If each and every one of you reading this, committed to do this in your state or any state you had planned to visit…it would speak louder than the “rioters and looters.”
These “life long” politicians fear loss of power and money more than they fear the latest ” terrorists” of the moment.
