Democrats’ Hypocrisy on Riots Reveals Political Nature of Coronavirus Lockdowns

iruses don’t discriminate based on politics, but many Democratic governors and mayors sure seem to do so. Democratic leaders’ sudden about-face in response to the protests, rioting and looting that have followed the tragic killing of George Floyd proves that their earlier condescending condemnations of anti-lockdown protesters were motivated primarily, if not entirely, by rank partisanship.
Story continues below advertisementWhen state and local leaders first began issuing stay-at-home orders in response to the coronavirus pandemic, we were told that the lockdowns were necessary to “flatten the curve” and to prevent our health care system from being overwhelmed.
We appear to have largely achieved that goal—albeit at a staggering cost, as more than 40 million Americans were forced to file for unemployment benefits and businesses have required hundreds of billions of dollars in federal assistance to avoid bankruptcy.
Instead of easing the painful restrictions and striving to reopen America, many Democratic mayors and governors, infuriatingly, sought to extend them even further—sometimes in open defiance of the First Amendment and always in open defiance of the concerns expressed by ordinary citizens desperate to be allowed to go back to work and live their lives.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, for instance, condescendingly quipped that anti-lockdown protesters who want to earn a living should simply “take a job as an essential worker.”
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, also a Democrat, was especially caustic, calling the protesters who showed up at the Michigan state capitol “racist” and fretting that they were spreading the virus by assembling in public.
“This is not appropriate in a global pandemic,” Whitmer complained. “But it’s certainly not an exercise of democratic principles where we have free speech.”
Whitmer was especially distraught over the fact that some anti-lockdown protesters chose to exercise their legal right to openly carry firearms, interpreting the behavior as some kind of a “threat” rather than a visually poignant way for ordinary citizens to express their determination to protect their constitutional rights.
However, when rioters used the recent George Floyd protests as cover for violence, Whitmer issued a statement that completely ignored their actions. She then blatantly ignored her own pleas for “social distancing” while joining the marchers for a photo-op just a few days later.
Far-left Democratic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was similarly dismissive of those anxious to reopen the city so they can go back to work, saying, “I don’t think it’s too much for people to be asked to wait until they get the all-clear to do the thing that’s safe, to do the thing that’s healthy because these numbers, these are about human lives.”
The same tough standard apparently doesn’t apply to the protesters deemed more “woke” by societal elites. De Blasio, whose own daughter was arrested for blocking traffic during a demonstration, made an exception for protesters but maintained lockdowns and curfews for New Yorkers who were not protesting, looting or rioting.
Saint Paul, Minnesota Mayor Melvin Carter, said that while he encourages protesters to abstain from destroying their own communities, he “want[s] to be very clear we’re not asking you for patience. And we’re not asking you for pacifism.”
Mayor Carter certainly should have been asking for pacifism, though—it would have been better than merely “hoping” the rioters stopped laying waste to the city.
The liberal mayor of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jacob Frey, is one of the most culpable local leaders, as he not only fanned the flames of the recent looting and rioting in his beautiful city, but he also effectively forced the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) to stand down and allow the city—including one of MPD’s own precincts—to burn.
Other prominent Democrats, including more than a dozen staffers working for former Vice President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, have even contributed to groups that are bailing out looters and rioters who were arrested for their crimes.
Democrats, as a whole, seem to have forgotten all about their dire warnings about the public health consequences of anti-lockdown protests—none of which devolved into looting, rioting or disorderly behavior. Now that the protesters are pushing an extreme liberal agenda, such as defunding the police, Democratic officials appear to have magically lost their “grave concerns” about mass gatherings.
The contrasting and hypocritical response from so many Democrats to the two recent protest movements makes it absolutely clear that their supposed concern about the spread of COVID-19 has little, if anything, to do with public health—and everything to do with politics.

A month into the Faux Black Death everyone should have known the tinpot dictators running many of our cities and states had found the pot of gold at the end of the power rainbow: FEAR. They weren’t about to give up the masks, distancing, lockdowns, closures, travel restrictions, bankruptcies, food banks, damage to mental and physical health, and all the rest they could blame on Trump. Corrupt mismanagement resulting in thousands of unnecessary deaths under de Blasio, Cuomo, and their like added fake credibility to the “LOCK DOWN OR DIE!!” scenario.
Then the BLM got its awaited trigger and the next stage appeared: UNEARNED GUILT AND VIOLENCE, heaped on an entire race because of the murder of a thug by a rogue coup. The Marxist mafia embarked on its longed-for orgy of rioting, looting, beating, killing, and burning while screeching that every white must KNEEL as anarchists turned our cities into war zones. Then they went after our history. Is anyone really surprised?
Between now and November these thugs must be taught that AMERICA DOES NOT KNEEL, or we will be plunged into a Marxist, anarchist, racist frenzy that may not be a civil war be you can see one from there. It’s not just re-electing Trump. It’s the conviction and resolve to state at the ballot box that we will not kneel, pay “reparations”, allow our freedom of speech to be silenced or our monuments to be smashed or our Founders’ honor to be fouled by liars, or allow Sharia into our system of law, or decimate our police forces, or dissolve our borders, or surrender our 2nd Amendment rights, or any of the rest of the tokens of surrender demanded by the Left.

The cop was surrounded by a mob of howling dervishes ready to slaughter him at any moment. His attention diverted and may have been unaware his knee was causing serious injury. Picture yourself in the same situation. Accidents happen especially when you are careless. I see no criminal intent here, perhaps poor training and policing, nothing more.

Please explain why I am wrong. I am contributing to a fund paying for the defense of these officers and I would like to know what hard evidence exists that the officers are guilty of anything more than negligence. BTW the body cams have NOT been released and I understand are exculpating.

He was to the Left however, unlike so called Journalists today he actually built his stories based upon facts and evidence, documentation and sources not afraid to use their name. He covered war from WWII through Viet Nam. He wasn’t like reporters writing and hiding at the Commodore Hotel owned by the PLO never venturing out and reporting other than what was told to them by the PLO like the reporters of the 80s. Cronkite actually ventured out into into combat zones like many Journalist peers of his AGE. When Kennedy was assassinated grief overcame him in front of the camera, not faked. His reporting was reporting not editorializing. His cohost Harry Reasoner, editorialized in a separate section if I still remember correctly. Prior to the the generation that succeeded Walter Cronkite, most top notch news people kept news and editorials separate and let the viewer know if they were switching from one to the other. Usually they had a colleague handle the editorials separately. So, while I grew up listening to him, I voted GOP in every election except one. We all make mistakes. I elected the two most conservative Presidents so I don’t think that any Leftism of Walter Cronkite affected my judgement. If we had honest HONEST Journalists like him today, we wouldn’t have as many Leftists in the classroom poisoning our young people with twisted forms of history or disgusting totally out of context views of the West and the USA. If anything Cronkite was a Patriot. He wouldn’t not want to see Generals from the South, most of whom were fighting like all soldiers for their families, homes and States. They were usually West Point graduates who fought with Northern Generals before the CW and earned their rank in the US Army fighting enemies of the US. They were granted universal pardons at the end of the war with a few exceptions. Kontrale for his terrorism, I’m not so sure. So today 150 years later we know better based on our more’s today we’ve decided as accuser, judge and jury to erase their memory first removing their statues and believe me next those Professors and text book writers will remove them from the history books or paint them in the worst light.

In regard to this article, the most important questions which, to the best of my knowledge, remain unanswered are how serious a threat is the COVID-19 (what is its real fatality rate), and do people need to maintain a distance between one another of at least 6 feet and wear surgical masks that block 100% of the air-born particles that transmit this disease to avoid becoming infected?
If the threat isn’t real and the precautions aren’t necessary, then the people shown in BOTH of the photos at the top of this article are “fine”.
If, on the other hand, the threat is real and the precautions are necessary, then the people shown in BOTH photos are in grave danger.
The CDC has been sending conflicting messages: first that the incubation period is 2 days; then it’s 10 days, then it’s 14 days; then it’s 24 days; then it’s 28 days; then it’s some unspecified number of day over a month.
The CDC also tells us that we all need to wear masks, then that we don’t need to wear masks, then that we do need to wear masks.
What’s most ominous and destructive about this horror show that we are now living through is the complete chaos and our inability to know what the truth is an get accurate, factual information, which is necessary for us to know what we should do to protect ourselves and our families.
This is the real reason there has been an increase in suicides in response to the pandemic and the accompanying stay-home orders.
