White House blocking Fauci from testifying before Congress about coronavirus response
A White House spokesman said it would be “counter-productive” for Fauci to testify nowhe White House has blocked Dr. Anthony Fauci from testifying about the response to the coronavirus crisis before the House Appropriations Committee, a spokesman for the committee told NBC News on Friday.
“The Appropriations Committee sought Dr. Anthony Fauci as a witness at next week’s Labor-HHS-Education Subcommittee hearing on COVID-19 response. We have been informed by an administration official that the White House has blocked Dr. Fauci from testifying,” the spokesperson, Evan Hollander, said.
He’d been asked to appear on May 6.
Fauci, the head of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has been a key adviser in the Trump administration’s fight against the coronavirus, and until recently, a fixture at the White House coronavirus briefings. He’s also sat for numerous media interviews on the virus, including on sports podcasts.
In a statement, White House spokesman Judd Deere said the May 6 hearing is not an “appropriate” time for Fauci to go before the House.
“While the Trump Administration continues its whole-of-government response to COVID-19, including safely opening up America again and expediting vaccine development, it is counter-productive to have the very individuals involved in those efforts appearing at Congressional hearings,” Deere said. “We are committed to working with Congress to offer testimony at the appropriate time.

Yeah, but you have to watch Covid-19 like a hawk, and have help. Even the young and healthy can go down. Breathing problems, and any blue lips, skin, fingernails, wheezing, extreme fatigue, exercise intolerance, high fever (101+), delirium, fainting, heart racing, then get to care ASAP. Once hospitalized, patients have about 17 days before they pop, and it’s not pretty. Double pneumonia is horrible. Survivors have permanent lung, and maybe heart, and liver damage too. Treatment for Covid-19 is free, no questions asked. Don’t play with this.

So I calculate the expected mortality for 2020 to be:
65,103 + 2,813,503= 2,878,606
= 2.3% increase in USA mortality for 2020 [roughly]

There is no reason to try to live forever. There is every reason to live well, to live happily. We are not at the mercy of this thing unless we choose to be. Philip: Oh yes, they can be fudged. Pamela posted something yesterday that claims only 37,000 Covid-19 mortalities in the USA so far. But of course 37,000 could fill a medium football stadium, so it’s not nothing. I considered that in writing my question, because 70,000 or 37,000 would not make much difference in deciding between, ‘a little’ or ‘a lot’. Am I right?

Myself, I regard Trump as a consummate chess player. For instance, we know that there are well in excess of 2,000 sealed federal warrants waiting to be executed. I have been thinking for some time that what he will probably do with them is to wait until the time for the election is drawing near and then give the order to execute them. This will keep it fresh in the minds of the electorate when they go to the polls and it will mean that the denizens of The Swamp won’t have much time to wriggle and invent excuses and call in favours from tame judges, etc., etc. I live in the UK so obviously I am viewing this from a considerable distance and without first hand experience of the way things work in the US except what I see in the Press and on the TV but I am inclined to think that Trump is a cunning old devil under that bland exterior and it would not suprise me in the least to see him pull Thor’s mighty hammer from out of his sleeve.
