A California city councilman was cited for battery after video showed him pushing anti-lockdown protesters who had gathered outside his front door

- The president of the Fresno, California, city council was cited on three counts of misdemeanor battery on Tuesday after a confrontation with anti-lockdown protesters outside of his apartment.
- Video shows members of a conservative group called Frontline America knocking on Miguel Arias’ front door to ask him about the city’s coronavirus response.
- Another video shows Arias stepping out of his home, and swatting and pushing a couple of the men gathered outside his front door.
- Arias claims the men tried to come inside his home, and that he acted in protection of his children.
- California has issued a state-wide, stay-at-home order since March 19.
The president of the Fresno, California, city council was cited on three counts of battery on Tuesday after getting into a confrontation with anti-lockdown protesters who had gathered outside of his home.
The incident was caught on two videos recorded by members of the conservative group Frontline America, and obtained by local TV station KMPH.
It happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday, with one of the group’s leaders, Ben Bergquam, knocking on councilman Miguel Arias’ door while other members filmed behind him.
Bergquam is also a member of the Proud Boys, a far-right, men-only organization designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
In the first video, Bergquam is seen trying to ask Arias a question, but before he can get it out, the city councilman is seen stepping out of his home and starting to swat at his camera.
“No. Get out. Do not come to my house,” Arias can be heard saying.
A second video shows Arias continuing to try and move the protesters off the stairs leading up to his apartment, at times swatting at and pushing Bergquam and another man.
All the while, Bergquam is heard accusing Arias of “ruining businesses.”

Of course he said that, it was his only defense. But of course the protestors had no such intention. IF they wanted in, they could have done so, they outnumbered him. But once inside, what would they do? Watch TV? His excuse is pathetic.
Fresno is a working class town near the coast, mostly blue, a bit red.

Not near the coast. It is pure San Joaquin Valley agricultural home of the Fresno State Bulldogs. Gets hotter than all get out their during the summer that is what grows the crops, and gets no Delta breeze like we do up here near Modesto, Stockton during the summer that cools us down at night.

Yes, Fresno is a half-way city. It sits in the San Joaquin Valley , and it is linked to both the hyper urban, Democrat coast, and the rural conservative Republican interior. The politics are mainly Democrat.

Miguel Arias.I agree with the young man in the video that said all he had to do was close the door, or say no comment if he didn’t want them there. Instead he right away started trying to push people down the stairs.

One good outcome to this situation is that the councilman will never have a license to legally carry a weapon because he now has a violation on his record involving anger issues.
Such is the case with assault or domestic violence, whether felony or misdemeanor. A simple DWI in Texas will mean your license or obtaining one is suspended for five years from the date of adjudication.

If it were not for the Southern Poverty Law Center the Proud Boys would not be called “far right”. As far as the SPLC is concerned, anyone to the right of it is “far right”. Actually, some leftists who don’t agree with the SPLC have been called “fast right” by it.
I wonder why Business Insider only labeled Proud Boys “far right” but did not refer to the SPLC as “extreme left”?

I would be willing to bet those conservatives did not try to come into the City Councilman’s home, and were not a threat to his children. I think it more likely that these Democrat thugs feel that anyone who disagrees with their strong desire to have illegal authority over the people is a genuine threat. They fear confrontation and being questioned and react violently in response to their own warped fear. I believe more and more Americans are waking up every day. Suddenly the Constitution is popular again.

I can see why the guy in question has no qualms about the lock down. His pay checks funded by tax dollars just keep rolling in. I guess I’d be in favor of staying at home too.

Hate to play devil’s advocate here, but I seem to recall quite a bit of outrage when liberals began showing up at the homes of conservatives and giving them grief. A man has a right to the sanctity of his home and protection of his family. Want to bug politicians? Do it on their way to work or something, but leave their home alone-we all know there are some wackos who will do terrible things to people once they know where they live.
