Story continues below advertisementSenator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) earlier this month called on Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to preserve the viability of a two state solution.
“I fear that any steps taken by Israel to unilaterally annex land in the West Bank will result in long-term costs to Israel’s national security and diplomatic relationships,” Feinstein wrote. “I urge you not to proceed with unilateral annexations, as such an effort to change the facts on the ground outside of a negotiation could ultimately make it impossible for Israel to secure a permanent and lasting peace agreement with the Palestinians.”

Prime Minister of IsraelDear Prime Minister Netanyahu,
I write to congratulate you and Deputy Prime Minister Gantz on agreeing to form a unity government in order to effectively lead Israel amid numerous domestic and regional challenges. However, I also want to express my concern about the implications of Israel unilaterally annexing territory in the West Bank.
As you know, the security of Israel and the U.S.-Israeli relationship are both deeply important and personal for me. America’s relationship with Israel is founded upon a shared set of democratic values, including the need for a negotiated two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians. I strongly believe that such an agreement is the only path toward an enduring resolution of the conflict that satisfies both the Palestinians’ inherent right to self-determination and Israel’s future as a secure, Jewish, and democratic state. I am hopeful that the Palestinian Authority and your government will come to the negotiating table to reach an agreement so that our shared goal of two states, living side-by-side in peace and prosperity, can be realized.
I fear that any steps taken by Israel to unilaterally annex land in the West Bank will result in long-term costs to Israel’s national security and diplomatic relationships. I urge you not to proceed with unilateral annexations, as such an effort to change the facts on the ground outside of a negotiation could ultimately make it impossible for Israel to secure a permanent and lasting peace agreement with the Palestinians.

Weather or not Judea and Samaria are annexed will not make one bit of difference to the Palestinians. To date they have outright rejected all overtures of peace offered by Israel and have repeatedly stated they will accept nothing short of the total destruction of Israel. I hope Israel does annex those lands because they were already part of Israel from a long time ago.

IT’S NOT AN ANNEXATION!
Eugene Kontorovich has written, convincingly, I believe, on this point (Ref 1 is an example, although he has a more recent pronouncement that is is a fuller explanation).
Annexation is when one country takes the recognized territory of another as, for example, Russia did with Crimea a few years ago. In the case of the disputed territory west of the Jordan River, no nation currently has recognized claims to it. Jordan once claimed it, but upon reflection, decided they didn’t want it after all.
This is an excellent example of where failing to make appropriate distinctions serves the cause of evil.

I believe I am correct on this when I say that the west bank was part of Israel per the mandate. It was stolen by Jordan in the 1948 war. Israel has only recovered in subsequent wars (started by the Arab states) what was its to begin with. It is not “annexing” what belonged to it in the first place. That is a logical impossibility.
As regards this “two state solution” baloney, Jordan was the two state solution in the mandate. What the terrorists and their Democrat supporters are demanding is a second two state solution and to have Israel give away what has been stolen and recovered. Matters not. The Arabs (and the western left) do not want another Arab state, they want Israel destroyed.
