California Doctors Saw ‘A Year’s Worth Of Suicides’ Last Month Amid Coronavirus Lockdown

Doctors at John Muir Medical Center near San Francisco, California, say they’ve seen more deaths by suicide in the last month than deaths from coronavirus, according to a local ABC affiliate — suicides they say are the direct result of the state’s shelter-in-place order.

“Personally I think it’s time,” Dr. Mike deBoisblanc, the emergency department head at Jon Muir, told ABC News Bay Area. “I think, originally, [the shelter-in-place order] was put in place to flatten the curve and to make sure hospitals have the resources to take care of COVID patients. We have the current resources to do that and our other community health is suffering.”

He went on to say that the hospital has seen a “year’s worth of suicide attempts” over the course of the last month, as businesses fail, jobs are lost, people become isolated, and access to mental health services is made more difficult by the California lockdown.

“We’ve never seen numbers like this, in such a short period of time,” he said. “I mean we’ve seen a year’s worth of suicide attempts in the last four weeks.”

Other hospital officials at John Muir say suicide attempts, made over the past month, were also more likely to end in death, not recovery.

“What I have seen recently, I have never seen before,”one trauma nurse added. “I have never seen so much intentional injury.”

“They intend to die,” she added. “Sometimes, people will make what we call a ‘gesture.’ It’s a cry for help. We’re just seeing something a little different than that right now. It’s upsetting.””

The hospital itself said in a statement that it is largely supportive of the state’s lockdown, which ends on May 31. And, it says, the shelter-in-place order has saved many lives from coronavirus and prevented state hospitals from becoming overwhelmed. But, officials point out, there are downsides and costs to such policies.

The executive director of the National Suicide Prevention Hotline, Tom Tamura, does say that individuals prone to suicide attempts during the lockdown have been very receptive to mental health resources — perhaps more so than patients that typically contact the hotline in times of crisis.

Liberals love death for you but not for them.
Muslims won’t be honoring Memorial Day. They see us as nasty oppressors.
Muslims reject everything we stand for and so do liberals. That is their common ground.

“Muslims reject everything we stand for and so do liberals. ”

No, liberals don’t have a fixed mindset.

Just, lots of liberals want to pretend to like Islam for vanity purposes without realising the full extent of the consequences, and they actually expect that the “conservative” side of America can magically bail them out or rescue them if things start going wrong.

Many thousands more came back from the two recent conflicts with multiple limbs missing, which is like a living death, so your figures don’t do US servicemen any justice whatsoever.

Hmm. More than a thousand percent increase: could be a noteworthy increase. Perhaps, a study could be started to determine the cause of such a drastic increase. Of course, the first thing we ought to research is the age distribution of the population so that we can focus on parents in the case that there is a disproportionate number of adolescents.

If you commit suicide, the coward’s way out, you are going straight to hell. To wit:

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy and that temple you are. ” — 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

I believe God is much more compassionate than that. He knows it is possible that someone can really believe in Him but be overwhelmed over a long period of time. Plenty of people believe on Him but are not taught His goodness and faithfulness. Frequently what they are taught is “religion” in the bad sense of the word, not relationship with a wonderful, brilliant, compassionate, and loving Savior who desires to indwell you and lead you to wholeness in Him.

Someone extremely close to me did commit suicide years ago, and I understand why. At that point in time I was not yet a Christian in the true sense of the word. I couldn’t help because I lacked spiritual discernment. I don’t believe for one minute that she is in hell. I believe that is a Catholic teaching, not mine.

That quote is from the Revised Standard Version of the Bible that I received as a graduation gift from the Methodist church where I was a member.

I am really bad about misspeaking, and leaving the wrong impression. I didn’t mean to infer that you were Catholic or not Catholic, only that I think they believe that is a sin unto eternal separation. I don’t use the Revised Standard Version. Here are the verses in the KJ3: 1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwells in you? 3:17 If anyone corrupts the temple of God, God will corrupt this one, for the temple of God is holy, which you are.

I think both renderings are saying the same thing. I am not at all a left wing Christian and also not virtually a Pharisee, as some I know. I believe God knows what is going on in that person’s heart, whether they are seeking Him, and whether they have made Him their Savior. This person was getting very ineffective Christian counseling from someone who meant well, but who lacked the knowledge and skills to deliver someone out of deep, and long term depression. If you only knew what psychological torture and twisting of Scripture we grew up with as little kids you might have more understanding. I don’t want to say more. There is good teaching and then there was often a tendency among some people in the 1950’s to sort of twist Scripture to suit your agenda of promoting “The fear of the Lord.” Little kids don’t need to be taught that God can’t wait to get them, that He is an ogre that is dying to cast you into hell. At a young age it is good to teach kids that sin is damaging, Jesus loves you, and wants to so elevate your thinking that you don’t desire sin. Then they will have love and respect naturally for Him, instead of the pure, raw fear you might have of a monster. If your identity is in Christ instead of your problems you will have a new perspective, and overcome. My personal experience with Jesus does not violate His word at all, but He is compassionate. If people understood how much God loved them they wouldn’t want most of their sin.

Nothing to do with the constant doom and gloom preached by left wing media. If you listen to them, there is no reason to live.
