Potential ‘Massive Wave’ of Cancer from Avoiding Routine Medical Care

A physician in Sacramento, California, said this week the cancellation of regular medical care during the coronavirus pandemic could yield a “massive wave” of cancer patients in the future.
Story continues below advertisementIn an interview with California Public Radio (CapRadio) Tuesday, Dignity Health thoracic surgeon Dr. Costanzo DiPerna said even though Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced in late April that hospitals and healthcare providers could resume some nonemergency medical care, many patients are still not scheduling appointments.
“Many patients are concerned about coming to visit us, to be screened for cancer, to be surveilled for their previous cancers we’ve taken out,” DiPerna explained.

What I’m concerned about right now, not just for lung cancer but for all cancers, is are there patients out there that don’t want to come in because they’re afraid of getting COVID-19? And, so, they avoid mammograms, they avoid cat scans, they avoid colonoscopies … Then in two years we’re hit with this massive wave of patients that are all at a later stage of essentially incurable cancers.
In California and many other states, medical visits governors decided are of a “nonemergency” variety have included routine mammograms, breast ultrasounds, and colonoscopies – which often detect cancers at their earliest stages, when they are most treatable.
Similarly, heart valve replacements, angioplasty, and tumor removals have all been delayed because of the orders of many governors as they focused solely on the infections caused by the Chinese coronavirus and associated massive testing and contact tracing expansions.
Hundreds of physicians, led by the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS), signed a letter to Vice President Mike Pence and the White House Coronavirus Task Force Friday urging the reopening of the nation’s business and schools and warning that delay will show a negative impact on the health of millions of Americans.
The physicians observed:
Our patients have suffered needlessly in pain and physical decline with disease progression because of short-sighted government edicts to stop all non-emergency care that is unrelated to COVID19. Some patients now face inevitable death because the diagnosis and treatments were delayed too long. Too many of our patients have suffered far more from the psychological, physical, and economic effects of the shutdown of communities and businesses than the direct impact of COVID 19 itself.

I have no doubt there will be a massive wave of cancer and other dire medical situations not being addressed. . No one in their right mind would be going to a hospital under the conditions described for this virus. Plus, allot of surgeries were cancelled.
We are also starting to see a parade of bankruptcies too. Iconic companies, like Sears are being joined with other bankruptcies. That translates to more unemployment, suicides and drug over doses. It’s an endless cycle that needs to STOP! This is becoming harmful “compassion”. People can only handle so much stress and run up their credit cards for so much. It must be exceptionally tough to be living alone and getting through this too.
After 100 years in business, Hertz filed for bankruptcy on Friday, proving to be yet another Covid-19 casualty. The old-time entity now joins the likes of J.C. Penney, J. Crew, Neiman Marcus, Gold’s Gym, Pier 1 and the McClatchy newspaper chain—companies that have all sought bankruptcy protection in recent weeks.
The only rational solution is to force the country to OPEN UP! We can’t afford to keep bailing people out. It’s also not healthy paying people to stay at home and not work.

It’s not that no one in their right mind WOULD be going, it’s that many CAN’T go! This little cooties is not something that most of us need to be afraid of, though, to be honest, if you are a cancer patient, yes, you are indeed at risk, but at the same time the Malaria Cocktail as I call it has proven quite effective at treating people if taken right away. Here in Maine, most hospitals have their doors closed for most people, but I do believe they still see people for some things, not sure about chemo, I do know they see kidney patients that need their blood done on a regular basis (dialysis), and there is something we have here called RTP for people that need rides, but they are shut down for people that are eligible with the exception of a few, like kidney patients, and maybe the cancer ones, not really sure, until June 1st. Was the 18th of this month, but they keep moving the ball. Probably the same in a lot of places.
You’re right about the surgeries. Been reading a lot of stories where people have had much needed surgeries cancelled, and most like a lot of people are worse off now due to that, and many may well have died on account of it. Will come to find out later no doubt that the death toll of this due to non covid/corona because of the lockdown was/is way worse then the cooties itself…..

In more parts of Texas than many would realize….. you would / WILL be arrested and/or FINED if you went to a hospital…. that’s IF you could find one even open to non-Emergency ” needs”.
H ell you were arrested/detained for walking down the f king Street in your own neighborhood !!

Yes. My feeling about Texas have changed significantly during this Lock-down…. as if we are all criminals. Both the abject SHEEP most have been…..and the dictatorial powers crabbed by County and Local Mayors. Been in contact with friends all over Texas and it is the same almost everywhere there is any population at all. Really Rural no….. but then that’s not saying much since there’s already social distancing due to low pop. density.

I am actually one of the lucky ones who had my last chemo treatments just as this corono crap was starting to take hold.
Even though my immune system was pretty much shot during treatment, and I was told ANY thing could be fatal, I took the precautions I was told were necessary, and pretty much went where ever I felt like, whenever I felt like, including to Mass every Sunday where there’s pretty much nothing but a bunch of old people coughing throughout the entire service.
Then, when I’m told my body’s all back up to snuff, immune system back up to full bore, I’m forced to quarantine because a bunch of blinkin’ blankin’ blanks are too scared to go out and LIVE.
What a blinkin’ blankin’ bunch of blankin’ blinkin’ blankity wimps.

My mother for one. She had a history of polyps so was put on a 3 yr. colonoscopy routine procedure. Within that 3 yr cycle she developed stage 3 cancer and died 2 yrs later.

Can you imagine the immense amount of monies being reaped by the health insurance companies? Collecting premiums but having no or far fewer claims to pay. In my case, 5 routine exams have been cancelled since March but I’m still paying the same premiums. I smell a rat.

We need a 4 trillion dollar infrastructure bill. If we are going into debt lets at least have something to show for it. With 37 million unemployed we have enough shovels to rebuild every road, dam, waterway, airport, harbor, railway, in the country. We desperately need to harden the electrical grid against an EMP attack. Lots of work for everyone and the infirm can be protected and cared for as well!

Heaping unsubstantiated fear upon fear, as has been done with the Chinese Flu, is evidence of the extreme lengths the Left will go to terrify the population into submission and serfdom.
